Chapter 95: Preparing to See the Doctor

[Cool and Flat Yukinoshita]: Master, master, please guide me. How did you train your awareness and movement? It's amazing!

Guan Shan looked at the chat window on the screen and felt that this person was truly persistent, asking the same question every time.

[Mountains Beyond Mountains]: First, go play a few offline horror games.

[Cool and Flat Yukinoshita]: Oh... wait, offline?

[Mountains Beyond Mountains]: Yes, fight some small monsters, take down a few bosses, and won't that train your awareness?

[Cool and Flat Yukinoshita]: ...Alright, I get it. Master, we're planning to form a team. Are you interested?

[Mountains Beyond Mountains]: Not interested. Don't you guys have jobs or school?

[Cool and Flat Yukinoshita]: Oh, it's just for fun. We're not planning to actually compete.

These days, Guan Shan had been playing with this guy and his teammates. For him, whether it was matchmaking or playing with acquaintances, it didn't matter much.

After all, playing with a reliable teammate made the experience slightly better.

But joining a team was out of the question. Besides, it seemed like the other party was just casually mentioning it, probably a short-lived interest that would soon fade.

[Mountains Beyond Mountains]: I don't have time. Play if you want.

[Cool and Flat Yukinoshita]: Oh... By the way, what do you do for work, master? Your online times seem random.

[Mountains Beyond Mountains]: Journalist. But you have no right to talk. No matter when I log in, you're always online. Be honest, are you a rich kid?

[Cool and Flat Yukinoshita]: Oh, a journalist. I recently heard about an incredible journalist, punching superpowered criminals and kicking killer organizations. I was stunned when my boss told me. Unfortunately, he's not in my province; otherwise, I'd definitely visit him.

[Mountains Beyond Mountains]: Just to clarify, is this journalist named Peter Parker?

[Cool and Flat Yukinoshita]: Hahaha... Maybe. But I'm not a rich kid. I'm a civil servant, just that, um, my job isn't very busy.

[Mountains Beyond Mountains]: ? So you play games at work? I'm reporting you.

[Cool and Flat Yukinoshita]: No, I was joking. I'm just a small employee. The main reason I can slack off is that my colleagues are too capable, so I get more free time.

[Mountains Beyond Mountains]: Alright, I need to sleep. I have work tomorrow.

[Cool and Flat Yukinoshita]: Good night, master. Oh, by the way, you're from Hangzhou, right? It doesn't seem very safe there lately. Try not to go out at night.

Not safe? Indeed, it's not. There have been two murder cases recently. How could it be safe? Guan Shan shook his head and casually responded before logging off.

Recently, he visited Zhao Hong's mother, Yu Zhen, only to find that they had moved. Both grandmother and grandson were gone.

After asking around, he finally learned from the Special Security Group about their whereabouts.

It turned out that Yu Zhen and Zhao Jie had been taken in by the Special Security Group. The reason was that Yu Zhen, being old and without her own source of income, couldn't support the two of them.

Out of concern for the victim's family, the Special Security Group found someone to take care of Zhao Jie, and Yu Zhen was sent to a reputable nursing home.

Although this was a good thing, Guan Shan couldn't help but wonder.

Wasn't the Special Security Group getting involved a bit too much?

It wasn't a criticism but a genuine observation.

Since the explanation of the empty bus exploding in the middle of the night was accepted, Guan Shan always thought that Xia Lei and his Special Security Group dealt with what seemed like supernatural incidents.

But now, it seemed they were also handling follow-up on murder cases.

Guan Shan personally investigated and captured the killer in this case.

Throughout the entire process, there were no supernatural elements. Why was the Special Security Group handling the aftermath?

Guan Shan didn't quite understand but couldn't say it was a bad thing. Maybe the Special Security Group had other responsibilities that he, as a temp, didn't know about.

"I'm too much of an outsider... I don't even know what the Special Security Group actually does."

Guan Shan stared at the ceiling, feeling he should learn more.

But even if he did, what could he do? He's still just a temp, only taking some hush money. Does he really want to help the Special Security Group? Even Xia Lei said he only needed to do his job well.

"Forget it. Stick to what I know. I'll just continue to slack off."

Guan Shan felt a wave of boredom and turned over, drifting into sleep.

---

The next day.

Guan Shan took a cab to Sacred Heart Hospital.

On the way, he called Li Zhiying to inquire about the person previously handling the investigation.

Li Zhiying said, "I thought you'd never ask—are you planning to go to Sacred Heart Hospital now?"

"Yeah." Guan Shan looked at the scenery outside the window. "I'm on my way, booked an appointment to see the doctor."

Li Zhiying couldn't help but smile. "That's indeed the simplest disguise."

She continued, "Actually, Jiang Siyuan didn't hire anyone from our newspaper. As you know, he has a lot of connections. These three documents were actually investigated by a detective he hired."

Guan Shan was surprised. "A detective?"

Li Zhiying replied, "Yes, a detective. A very capable one who takes all sorts of commissions and works very efficiently, though his fees are high."

Guan Shan raised an eyebrow and asked, "Then why not continue to hire him? The boss isn't short on money."

But then again, he was now helping to finish the follow-up investigation but only received overtime pay, definitely not as much as this "highly-priced" detective.

Damn, big loss.

Li Zhiying was speechless. "Yeah, not short on money, so why didn't I hire him?"

"Given his high efficiency, he wouldn't abandon the job halfway. Jiang Siyuan must have paid him well."

Guan Shan analyzed and then speculated, "So he might have... gone missing during the investigation?"

Li Zhiying nodded, speaking softly, "Because he went missing, Jiang Siyuan had to find others to help, but the progress stalled until... you took over."

Could it be related to Sacred Heart Hospital? Guan Shan had this thought.

But without knowing what he was investigating when he went missing, speculating was pointless.

Guan Shan straightforwardly asked, "Is his disappearance related to these cases?"

Li Zhiying shook her head. "No, otherwise I'd have sealed these documents. He went missing while investigating another commission simultaneously. The last communication with Jiang Siyuan was in early October."

"Since you're going to Sacred Heart Hospital, if you're curious, you can ask Jiang Siyuan directly."

Guan Shan shrugged. "Will he tell me?"

"You can try..." Li Zhiying paused, then added, "He's quite... easy to talk to now."
