Chapter 13: 2 Bread with Cheese (?)

The moment Guan Shan heard the mechanical voice.

In the blink of an eye, everything he saw seemed to be filtered, instantly changing in appearance.

"Zzzzz—"

The lights in the bus flickered twice.

In the intervals between darkness and light, the entire bus seemed to writhe.

Yes... writhe.

Numerous tiny blood vessels adhered to the purple-red meat walls, spreading from the pool of blood beneath the decapitated passenger's seat, growing madly in all directions, as if intending to devour everything.

"What the hell is this?!"

Guan Shan, drenched in cold sweat, paled and took several steps back.

Terrified, he quickly opened his backpack and equipped everything he could! There were four equipment slots, each serving a different function: left and right weapon slots, and head and body accessory slots, each corresponding to specific items.

The large butcher knife in the left slot, the Glock 17 with infinite ammo in the right.

The "Butcher's Heart" belonged to the body accessory slot.

The moment he equipped the "Butcher's Heart," Guan Shan distinctly felt another heartbeat in his chest, resonating with his own.

"Thump! Thump! Thump!"

More powerful and more rugged, the blood it pumped seemed to carry the ambition of a deceased soul wanting to tear everything apart.

However, this heart was ultimately simulated; after a few hallucination-like beats, it calmed down.

"Phew..."

Guan Shan touched his chest, took a deep breath, and felt a bit more secure.

Even though he knew everything in front of him was simulated, the overwhelming unknown entities rushing at him still triggered intense fear.

But fortunately... he was no longer the same novice from his first simulation! Guan Shan glanced at the items still in his backpack. No matter what kind of monsters appeared next, he felt confident in facing them.

When the light flickered the first time.

The meat walls only covered the middle of the bus, wrapping the passenger's corpse and seat in it, leaving only the severed neck exposed.

From a distance, it looked like a bizarre sculpture.

At the end of the bus, the driver, who had no presence since earlier, slowly stood up from his seat.

"Click."

The driver calmly extended his gloved hand and opened the isolation door beside his seat.

He raised his head, staring at Guan Shan from afar... No, he had no eyes!

Therefore, this couldn't be called a traditional "stare."

Not only did the driver lack eyes, he didn't have any basic facial features.

However, Guan Shan felt a chilling sensation as if he was being "watched."

That face seemed like a kneaded dough ball, or like numerous faces overlapping, their expressions vaguely resembling crying and struggling.

But upon closer inspection, there was nothing there.

This "stare" didn't last long.

In front of the stiffened Guan Shan, the driver's information appeared.

[BOSS [Faceless] Driver (lv.10)]

[Health: 10,000]

[Description: Your face is my face.]

"Damn!"

Guan Shan was too shocked to be scared, staring at the information interface, counting the zeros again to ensure he wasn't mistaken.

Ten thousand health, a full ten thousand!

Guan Shan was dumbfounded. What level was this?!

He was currently level 9, and even with the 10% health boost from his passive skill "Pile of Rotting Flesh," he only had 990 health, while his opponent, just one level higher, had ten times his health! Guan Shan was baffled but deeply shaken.

Could this game still be played?! Was he really playing a horror game simulator and not Sekiro?

Oh, in a sense, Sekiro could also be considered a horror game... After all, what normal game lets you die hundreds of times, creating psychological trauma! And now there were no other small monsters to kill for experience.

In other words, he had to face a boss with ten times his health... Ha, ha ha ha... Maybe he should just commit suicide?

Just as Guan Shan was about to be knocked out by this annoying simulator.

The lights flickered a second time.

The surroundings plunged into darkness, then regained light.

This time, what appeared before Guan Shan was a world completely enveloped by meat walls.

The bus's steel structure was entirely submerged in flesh. Chairs, poles, railings—everything was covered in blood vessels and flesh walls, writhing as if they could pounce at any moment.

Guan Shan instinctively retreated, but the feeling under his feet was the same, soft and slippery.

It was extremely disgusting and uncomfortable.

Guan Shan took another deep breath, trying to calm himself down.

Even though the boss had ten times his health, thinking back, in the meat-eating restaurant, he started as a level 1 novice and eventually defeated the level 8 boss chef.

In essence, it was also ten times his health, and he didn't have these equipments back then.

So, the simulator's difficulty might not be as high as he thought...

"Zzz—"

A piercing, sharp metal scraping sound came from above.

Guan Shan shivered, feeling a chill on his skull.

No, it was really cold! Guan Shan looked up abruptly, seeing a sliver of moonlight leaking through the bus roof.

In the eerie and terrifying environment around him, this sliver of moonlight was like a bright light in the dark night, dazzling and deadly.

Because accompanying it was a long, terrifying black insect limb!

Through the hole pierced in the roof, a glimpse revealed a huge, terrifying spider-like monster perched on top, stabbing its sharp limbs into the bus.

[[Cage] Spider (lv.9)]

[Health: 1200]

[Description: It only weaves nightmares.]

"Damn!"

In an instant, Guan Shan barely managed to dodge.

But the sharp side of the limb still left a deep gash on his face.

Health -5!

Guan Shan didn't have time to feel relieved.

The next moment, a new status appeared: [Poisoned].

And below his health bar, a green progress bar appeared.

The system kindly reminded him again.

[Negative Status Buffer Triggered]

[When the player is affected by a negative status, there will be a buffer time. If the progress bar reaches zero and the negative status is not removed, a percentage of health will be slowly deducted.]

"You damn... Okay, this time you're really kind."

Guan Shan didn't expect the poisoning to have a buffer time for taking antidotes. This horror game simulator was too considerate!

Fortunately, the "First Aid Kit" he bought for 648 included "Adrenaline Injection," which, besides restoring a large amount of health, also had the effect of removing negative statuses!

"Thank goodness, it proves that starter packs are the last kindness from developers!"

With the driver and spider as two slices of bread.

Guan Shan used the "First Aid Kit," wrapping it hastily around his wrist, ignoring the wound on his face.
