Chapter 681: Back Street General Store

"It's very quiet here, you can rest well."

Xiao Bai grabbed the Scapegoat, who was trying to get close to those flowers, and picked it up.

Lin Ye followed Xiao Bai deeper into the courtyard. A refreshing breeze and warm sunlight made this place truly suitable for resting. It would be even better if those flowers weren't swaying against the wind.

Little Black and the little dog followed behind them. The Lizard and a bug were perched on Little Black's head. They seemed to sense some kind of atmosphere and weren't as lively as usual.

"It looks like you know what I want to ask."

Lin Ye sat down on the lounge chair in the center of the courtyard and patted the little dog that had come up to his feet. Lately, he had been occasionally modifying the little dog's body structure, especially whenever he got an Inspiration.

"There's a general store on the back street of the library. The shopkeeper sells customized cards. You can go ask him about it, but places off the main roads in the city district aren't safe. It's best not to go deep into any Dangerous Areas."

Xiao Bai glanced at the lounge chair Lin Ye was sitting on, the light circles in her eyes spinning.

"I understand."

Lin Ye lay back on the lounge chair and closed his eyes. Although those flowers were a bit eerie, this was indeed a great place to rest. Just lying here, that restless feeling quickly faded. The smells, the sounds, the texture of the air... the entire environment was unusually harmonious, like a meticulously painted scroll.

He didn't know how much time had passed, but Lin Ye slowly opened his eyes. He had fallen asleep just now, and it had been an incredibly comfortable sleep.

Xiao Bai and the pets had left the courtyard, heading off somewhere unknown. Lin Ye sat up from the lounge chair and looked toward the entrance of the courtyard. A woman dressed in a nun's habit was standing there.

"Sorry, is it time already?"

Lin Ye stood up and walked toward the entrance. He really liked this courtyard, especially the feeling of resting inside it.

"No, I just wanted to come and take a look at you. There's no need to leave in a hurry."

The nun stepped aside, revealing a gentle smile.

"Are you a clergy member here?"

Even though he knew that no fighting was allowed in the Rest Area, Lin Ye instinctively didn't want to get close to her. In his perception, she was far more dangerous than any enemy he had ever encountered. Of course, that didn't include enemies whose level of danger he couldn't even detect.

"Please don't use honorifics. I'm just an ordinary clergy member."

The nun raised her wrist. It was tied with numerous pendants of different colors and unknown materials.

She took off a dark green pendant from her wrist and tied it around Lin Ye's wrist.

"This is a small token of my regard. I wish you a smooth journey ahead."

"Thank you."

Lin Ye didn't refuse. He could sense her goodwill.

"Well then, goodbye."

The nun turned and walked toward the church. A sports car had pulled up outside it.

Lin Ye got into the Back Seat of the Sports Car. The pets weren't inside; only Xiao Bai was in the Driver's Seat.

"How was the rest?"

Xiao Bai met Lin Ye's gaze through the rearview mirror.

"Very good. That church... do you know that nun?"

Lin Ye tapped the window edge with his middle finger, looking at the pendant tied around his wrist as he asked.

"Yes, I do. She was once a Survivor of the system as well. She destroyed many Planes and killed an astronomical number of lives. Because her personality was too aggressive, the system placed her in a position more suited to her."

Xiao Bai showed no intention of keeping secrets and casually revealed the other party's identity.

"...A suitable position means being a nun in the Rest Area?"

Lin Ye felt he might be more qualified for the job than she was.

"The nun's habit is her personal hobby. She doesn't actually have much to do with that church. But it's best not to joke with her about that. She's the kind of devout believer who takes things very seriously, even though no one knows what deity she worships."

Xiao Bai gave a solemn warning. Joking around with people who are particularly earnest is a dangerous thing.

"I understand."

Lin Ye didn't dislike people like that.

The sports car quickly stopped outside the hotel. Lin Ye returned to his hotel room, where the pets were resting.

"See you next time."

Lin Ye changed into his pajamas, lay down on the soft big bed, and closed his eyes.

"Goodbye."

Listening to Xiao Bai's soft voice, Lin Ye's consciousness began to sink, falling into a soft darkness.

..................................

After returning to the Shelter, Lin Ye first checked the system information for the pendant.

[Eternal Night Pendant]

[This is a pendant fused from a massive amount of life. Using the pendant can bring about Eternal Night (1/1).]

[Note: This is an extremely dangerous one-time expendable. The person who crafted this pendant is also one in a million.]

"What the hell is Eternal Night supposed to be..."

Lin Ye was a bit speechless. He didn't put the pendant away but let it continue hanging on his wrist.

After reading the pendant's information, Lin Ye left the Shelter and took the biological bus to the Library stop.

Before this, he had never left the main street because he had no need to explore the city yet.

As he left the main street, Lin Ye received a red system prompt.

[Warning: Survivor is about to enter a Dangerous Area.]

Lin Ye didn't stop. Instead, he turned into a relatively narrow street. Both sides of the street were lined with various storefronts, each with a scattering of customers inside. Some pedestrians could also be seen passing by on the street.

These pedestrians weren't Survivors, and Lin Ye had no idea who they were.

He didn't enter any of the shops on this street. Instead, he turned into a small alley located behind the library.

This alley was extremely narrow, probably only about five body-widths wide. Fortunately, there wasn't a single person inside. Otherwise, Lin Ye would have had to figure out how to deal with any approaching pedestrians.

That general store was hidden deep in the alley. Lin Ye pulled open the worn-out shop door and found that there was already a customer inside.

It was a woman dressed in a bright red outfit.

The shopkeeper was an old man. He glanced at Lin Ye and revealed a very friendly smile.

"Welcome. This shop sells all sorts of miscellaneous goods. Do you have any needs?"

The customer gave Lin Ye a surprised look, but she didn't stare for long. She quickly turned her head and continued examining the goods on the shelf.

"I need a customized card to reach a specific spatial coordinate, the kind that can be used with a card reader."

Lin Ye walked over to the counter, scanning the goods on the shelves. There was a lot of useless junk, but also some things he had never seen before.

"That's simple. You have the Spatial Coordinates, right? Please wait a moment. It'll be done in twenty minutes."

The shopkeeper's face beamed with a warm smile.

"How much?"

Lin Ye took out the prepared Spatial Coordinates and asked.

"Just 10 Trade points."

The shopkeeper took the Spatial Coordinates and went into the back room of the store.
