Chapter 37: Some Things Must Be Done

The impact of Wang Wei's Ninth Trial lasted for more than a month. Throughout the Dao Opening Sect, many disciples kept discussing the mighty prowess of their Young Sect Master and they all had a happy smile on their face, as they looked forward to a better future.

They all hoped that their sect could have a new Great Emperor.

Meanwhile, in the Wang Family Mountain, Wang Wei has been pondering what he learned throughout all the Nine Trials.

After passing each trial, he became a better person, a more qualified cultivator. The trial that affected him the most has to be the Fifth Trial.

In that Trial, Wang Wei almost lost himself. In order to acquire power, he was willing to do absolutely anything: he had no bottom-line whatsoever. He was even willing to kill his own mother...

Although he woke up at the last minute, he still had a lingering fear when he thought about how close he came to losing himself to power and becoming its slave.

During this trial, Wang Wei's greatest fear since coming to this world manifested. He truly feared that during his journey to the Throne of Emperor, the cultivating world would slowly change him and turn him into a greedy and heartless monster that lust for power.

After all, despite all the changes that has happened to Wang Wei the past ten years, his essence is still a modern man who lived in a society of law and order.

He has not truly blended into this world yet. In fact, today, he is going to take another step to modify his way of thinking, and also to prepare for his future.

After his self meditation, he proceeds to call his head maid Wang Ju--who is in fact from one of the Wang family branch lines. After a rigid and rigorous training process with more than a 1000 candidates, she was chosen to serve Wang Wei.

Wang Ju walks into the room, bows and salutes: "Young Master."

"Did you get what I asked for?" answers Wang Wei directly.

"Yes, just like you ask for. Ten heinous criminals from the mortal world are locked in the basement. Each of them have committed horrendous crimes like rape, murder of children, and even cannibalisms."

After hearing Wang Ju's words, Wang Wei nods in satisfaction and orders: "You can leave now."

Wang Ju slightly bows to him and proceeds to leave without asking any question. One of her training as a Head Maid and Information Agent is to never ask the Superior any question.

Things that she should know will be told to her. Things that she should not know, she does not dare to ask. That's the motto of every properly trained maid. If one day she ever crosses any of these two rules, she knows what awaits her is only death.

After seeing his head maid leave, Wang Wei was even more satisfied with her. The Wang family trained her properly, and Wang Ju is actually quite capable.

After taking a few breaths to calm down, Wang Wei journeys toward the basement. Today, he is going to do something to prepare for his future; he is going to take another major step toward his future.

Today, he is going to personally see blood: he is going to kill.

Although Wang Wei has committed many acts of mass genocide during the Pagoda Trial, however, things are actually different in real life. In the trials, he could internalize his actions by telling himself that this world is in fact just a mere dream, a very realistic illusion.

That his actions had no real consequences, that the people in the illusion were nothing but npcs in a game. As such, he did not really feel anything when he killed someone.

However, reality is different from the illusion world of the Pagoda. This time, he is going to take an actual life.

As a person born in modern society with normal ethical views, how could he easily kill someone and shrunk it like it was nothing.

Wang Wei remembers reading about the protagonists from the novels in his past life. Every time they first kill someone, they act as if it was nothing. It was as if what they had just done is comparable to daily drinking of water.

These protagonists usually defend themselves by saying that the world is the law of the jungle, big fish preys on little fish.

Although they are indeed right, the world of cultivation is indeed brutal, however, these protagonists just got into the world and they could immediately change their mindset like that.

To Wang Wei, most of these protagonists were actually already mentally unstable. The world did not change them, not it just reveals their already insane or problematic mentality. The law and order of modern society are just shackles to these protagonists.

However, Wang Wei is different. He was a normal human being with normal ethical views. Although he always has been a person of great determination, in many ways, he is still a normal person.

Wang Wei continues to walk steadily toward the basement. Today, he must kill these prisoners. And it is not because of his moral views that evil must be eradicated.

No, it was because his mentality needs to change.

After spending so much time in this world, Wang Wei has realized that he is different from the children of this world.

All the children of the same age as him have the mindset that killing is not morally wrong, but a way to display might and heroism. They grew up hearing tales of their father and ancestors fighting and slaughtering countless cultivators. And these parents instilled the idea that one day, they will do the same too.

As a result of this, killing for these children is nothing at all. Wang Wei once watched a 5 years old kill a servant for making a mistake. Although he tried to stop it, it was already too late--the servant was already dead by the time he arrived.

It was at that moment that he realized how different his mindset was from everyone else. Unfortunately for him, in this world, his mindset is considered wrong and dangerous.

As a person who hopes to one day walk the Path of Emperor, being compassionate is the last trait that he needs. The Throne of Emperor is one made of blood and bones of countless cultivators.

Knowing all of these, Wang Wei has long prepared to slowly set his mindset in the right place--instead of directly being thrown into a situation in which he has to face his flaws unprepared.

Wang Wei slowly enters the basement. Inside lies ten men wearing tattered linen cloth with iron chains bidding both their hands and feet. A cloth is used to forcibly close their mouth and prevents them from speaking.

Wang Wei slowly looks at each of them. From their facial expression, he could see the great fear and dread in their eyes; it was the fear of death approaching them, yet being totally powerless to prevent it.

In fact, not all of them are actually afraid. From the subtle soul fluctuation that Wang Wei could perceive, a few of them were actually quite calm and a cunning gleam of light could be seen deep in their eyes.

Wang Wei could tell that these criminals were actually trying to find a slight chance of survival. The fear that they have displayed on their face is nothing but a farce to disarm him; a way for them to try to get him to either have sympathy for them or lower his guard.

Wang Wei ignores all of the looks that these prisoners were given him. He walks to a table in the room and picks up a long knife. Then, proceeds toward the first prisoner and stands in front of him.

Wang Wei looks at the prisoner while his hand holding the saber tremor slightly. A great amount of dread suddenly overcomes him. He hesitates. This is a life that he was about to take.

No matter how sinful said life was, it is still a life. What right does he have to take it away? If he does take their lives, would he be any better than them?

While Wang Wei was dealing with this ethical and philosophical dilemma, the prisoners started to have hope; they hoped that this Young Master would have sympathy for them and let them spend the rest of their lives in prison.

It took a total of 30 minutes for Wang Wei to make a decision. He looks at the first prisoner, with trembling hands, screams out loud and stabs him repeatedly.

Wang Wei did not know how many times he stabbed the poor bastard. After the first stab, he had immediately lost consciousness. All he could rely on was instinct.

When he woke up, his robe was full of blood.

He sat on the floor with a dead body and nine horrified prisoners. He started to think about what he has just done.

Soon, the realization that had taken a life dawned on him. He asked himself: "Did he regret it?". The answer is of course yes. It is true that these people are in fact quite wicked and deserve death. However, no matter what excuse he could come up with, a life is a life.

Afterward, Wang Wei asked himself: "If he was given the chance to re-do it again, would he still make the same choice?"

The answer he came up with is still yes. He is a person destined to walk the Path of the Emperor. In the future, the amount of lives that will end on his own hand will be incalculable.

What he had just done was just the first step in order to adapt. It is true that the act of killing someone is actually quite the horrible feeling.

Unfortunately, he will have to get used to this feeling until he can completely ignore it or he becomes numb to it.

After realizing all of this, Wang Wei had a feeling that something of great importance was taken away from. And he knew that he would never be able to take it back.

Are you f#cking kidding me? mc spent this whole time in pagoda to hone his will and he even acheives it. But wth I am reading here, a person with emperor's will and who have gone through so many illusions [Atleast it should have some effect on his personality the shit he went through] can't even kill some criminals.

Fr, In my opinion, this whole thing about taking a life is BS. It would make sense if this scene happened before he went through the pagoda trial, but after everything he’s been through in that hell, he’s still acting like an actual kid? Come on…

He was in illusion, not the real life.
No matter how real it feels, if you know that all of it were just illusion. You will also be aware that all the people you're killing were nothing but just npcs program to do what the creator wants them to do just as this chapter highlighted, if you were able to notice it somehow.

So what he's doing right now is killing a person in real life, not some program shit but a living person the same as him. If you die, then it's over. No second chances.

And, yes. The pagoda did help him equipped and prepared his mentality toward the path his taking which is why he decided to kill now and left his peaceful life in the first world.

He has all the knowledge now, and what's left is to use those knowledge for his path.

So pagoda is lottery/plot armour for mc to only get gains. Do you even know willpower is? He forms full emperor's will just because he went through bunch of illusions if that's what you mean.

The aura on his back doesn't mean shit if his mindset is still from earth. Playing illusions won't change you, at least you'll be mentally aware but to kill in reality?
I doubt it if you yourself won't feel anything in your first kill.

This little detail where author lets MC feel to be a human from earth just shows that not every transmigration, you will adopt instantly to what's the morality of that world offers just because you always read novels about reincarnation doesn't mean you'll accept your new life immediately in reality speaking.

Which is why author mentioned that those who are able to adopt instantly are already mentally unstable who almost are at edge of their life.

But for our MC, who's a law abiding citizen of earth, needs this method to adopt.

So according to you by playing with illusions, he almost condenses emperor's will without his mindset changing from earth [Do you know what emperor means?].

Are you saying aura behind him means shit? wth the whole sect gets amazed by it [The sect which have produced 10 emperors.] Only selected chosen ones can do it. Are you even reading correctly

Do you even know how illusions work in xianxia? Have you read another xianxia novel?

Our MC is a civilized law abiding citizen in the previous modern world and you want him to be nonchalant when taking someones life in real life and feel nothing as if they're animals?

What this progression author did was to reborn MCs values to the current world values killing and burying the old ones.
Don't assume just because this is xianxia novel would equate this gem similar to your other generics xianxia nowadays you're reading.

Just so you know in these recent and early chapters signifies that the form is useless if you don't have your own strength.
What it could do mostly to the user as far chapters I've read is having the ability to utilize quasi-domain where saints realm could only use if I could remember it right.

MC may have the young emperors form but that doesn't mean he'll become the the final winner at the end.

This also indicates that he just only has the potential to be it by having the passable will power which other heaven chosen could do as well.

Now, the aura that could be felt by the onlookers that some would even kneel by just seeing it. This doesn't signifies that Wang Wei did it intentionally or wills to force it to other people.

Basically, it's just a form and it's useless aside from the aura that affects cultivators with lower realm or willpower and the quasi-domain.

So basically, a heaven chosen with big will power or experience in the pagoda which are all illusions you know of(killing others) is all useless if they won't apply it in real life like walking the talk by killing the criminals,

              And

One good example was on spirit road trial. Even though MC has countless years of fighting and killing in pagoda, struggled in defeating 2 opponents but continues to seek battles to further enhance his fighting experience.

Don't assume that MC will immediately becomes heaven defying just because he has the pagoda. This isn't like the shxtty novels you're reading. You should stop it, you're losing your dao fellow daoist 6

yup the shitty xianxia novels I have read are Er gen's novel which are basically classic among xianxia, Lord Xue Ying, Martial world (it's a mid one), The desolate Era and RI nit including other types of novels. What novels have you read?

Of course fighting experience in illusion wouldn't provide body with fighting instincts, it can only be gained through real fighting. But illusion can still provide some experience how to move body to maximize your movements but it will take time to get body do it in real world.

And you really don't know shit about what willpower means. It doesn't give you a direct fighting advantages but there are other uses to it. You can read "Pursuit of the truth" to know what really willpower means.

The thing you keep repeating is Mc is a civilized law abiding citizen and yada yada how this author is the best one to show it. Here you really shows your newb novel reading experience, basically if you are reading a novel with good ratings every author displays it. It just shows your ignorance and what you know about xianxia novel is some 3rd tier novels that you read.

What funny is that you are making such a big deal about him killing some death deserving criminals that it totally changes his world view. Are you joking, even here good people would be willing to kill such heinous criminals.

How foolish can you be to compare the progression of Wang Wei from the generic tropes from other novels you're reading.

This chapter clearly explains that MC has trouble adjusting on this world and even I've reach a chapter where it says that if not because of his grandmother, wang Wei would likely lose his shit at the beginning.

This chapter also explains how hard would it be if reincarnation really exist and how the reincarnator will cope up in real life as someone who grow from a civilized society where as killing which was highly criticize and other staff like slavery and other shits presenting the morality of our world.

Now I could see why you seem to struggle to understand such simple concept of this chapter is because your understanding of this chapter of why MC is being a sissy over killing someone with huge willpower is seems your basing it from other novels you've read.
Well, there's nothing wrong with it at all if you want to criticize authors craft but you're forgetting something that not every novel or MC you'll read would have the same traits as this MC.
This novel is trying hard to be unique atleast separating it from a typical isekai these days.

Now just to make it clear with you what this chapter wants to portray.

Wang wei has the willpower but that doesn't mean you won't have any negative arguments against to your goal of becoming a great emperor.
                  You could still lose yourself like for example;
Falling through lust, broken dao due to continues defeats, falling in love(losing focus), and numerous ways to lose your sight towards your goal.
In conclusion, MC has this problem which having the trouble of letting go of his peaceful life into a path of a great emperor which is full of blood.

The pagoda basically just gives you knowledge, experience and other shits but that doesn't change you immediately after experiencing them.
There's still some adjustments and clearly some time to fully absorbed them.

Killing those real humans(criminals) were his first step.

Willpower is only just a will, nothing but some sort of thought with no dominion over reality or over your actions. Of course that only counts in this early chapters as there's a psuedo domain and other shits I didn't come across yet..

This was the defense of author. Read it dude.

However, reality is different from the illusion world of the Pagoda. This time, he is going to take an actual life.

Though I can somehow understand you as I did criticize author once when he chose to kill han li where could exploit many things from that guy like allying themselves even if it's just on paper or not allowing him to suicide thus having the body of the dead han li with for sure still has some source/essence blood.
Author is sure proud how his plot succeeded preparing it for more than 5 decades but all he did was punch and killed han li where even his sect could just do it for him.
I just hated how author overhyped how witty wang wei is where he's not even that close to fang juan level to be so that proud. oru2x

😂😂 No hard feelings guys. How do you read novels if you can't write standard sentences?

I ran through the comments below and some are unintelligible and worse than the worst MTL.

Are you from English speaking countries or you are just learning the language?

If you are from an English speaking country, go back to school and drop that device.

If you are just learning English. These kind of novels are not what you should be reading now. They are not all grammatically correct and won't substantially help you.
