Chapter 3612: The Caretaker

"Alright, what do you want?" the young man asked as he closed in on Alex. He stayed far enough away that the staff wouldn’t intervene, but close enough that the conversation remained private.

Alex looked at the man and shrugged. "I told you. If you can afford to pay for it, just bid."

"No, I’m not talking about money," the young man said. "There must be something else you want. Our Jin family has great connections throughout this city. If you back out, I will help you get in contact with some important people."

Alex raised an eyebrow. "Who exactly?"

The young man hesitated for a moment. He looked around briefly before turning back.

"My father is a friend of the caretaker of this pavilion. He’s also friends with one of the bigger alchemists working here. I can ask him to help you make connections. You surely want great pills, don’t you? My father can help you get a discount."

"Don’t listen to him!" the woman suddenly spoke aloud, moving closer as well.

"Our Lang family has deeper connections with this pavilion. My nephew, the head of the Lang family, is also a friend of the caretaker here. We can help you too. In fact, one of our family’s juniors is an alchemist in this pavilion. Their connections with the other alchemists will be far deeper than anything an outsider could form."

Alex stared at the two people who were desperately attempting to get him onto their side. He narrowed his eyes. "What exactly is it that you want me to do?"

"Just don’t bid anymore. That’s all," the young man said.

The woman nodded as well. "Just let us fight for it. Back out of this."

Alex shrugged a little. "That’s not up to me."

He turned toward Ronron. "What do you say?"

Ronron crossed her arms, looking at the situation. "I do want that flower though."

The woman spoke up first. "Young lady, please. You can just use any ordinary pill to cultivate, can’t you? You don’t need this."

"Little sister, I need that flower. Our Jin family has a long history of enmity with this Lang family. I must get this flower for the sake of my family. I will do everything I told him. I can help you with connections."

Ronron frowned. "Why would I care about your connections? Should I be excited about meeting the caretaker of this place?"

She turned to look at Greensoul. "Is that your friend?"

The man gave a quick shake of his head.

So Ronron could only shrug in response. "I’m not backing down. But if neither of you wants to bid, I’m just going to get it anyway."

A strange smile threatened to tug at her face. Alex saw it, and Greensoul saw it too. The girl was having far too much fun terrorizing the two people.

The young man turned around and barely increased the bid by the minimum amount possible. The woman did the same, but Alex added more immediately. They all went one after another, continuing to increase it until it reached 2.9 million.

"What is wrong with you? I’m offering to help you meet the caretaker. Don’t you know who that is?" the young man from the Jin family asked.

Alex shook his head. "I have no idea."

"Are you perhaps new to this city?" the older woman asked. "I see no other reason why you wouldn’t know about Senior Bearskin."

Alex could only continue shaking his head. "I have no idea who that is. Sorry."

"I’m Bearskin!" a voice came from the end of the hall, causing every head to turn in that direction.

Everyone stared at the newly arrived individual with long golden hair, wearing a shimmering robe of white and yellow.

A Divine realm aura, much stronger than that of the older woman, spread through the group before the man himself even arrived. While the old woman was barely at the start of the Divine realm, the man was already in the Divine Manifestation realm.

That alone shocked the people around the area.

For Alex, however, the man felt much weaker than the people he was used to being around.

Everyone bowed quickly as the man walked up to them. Ronron was about to as well, but Greensoul stopped her. There was no reason for her to bow considering her status.

Alex didn’t either, simply watching the man approach.

While Bearskin carried quite an authoritative aura, what drew Alex’s attention more was the male staff member behind him. This was the person Alex had sent to gather the ingredients, so he was surprised that he had brought along the caretaker of the pavilion itself.

Alex frowned slightly, wondering if perhaps the staff member didn’t trust his ability to pay and had brought someone to deal with the situation should it come to that.

As he arrived, the man’s eyes swept through the group, as if surveying the situation. "What’s going on?"

"Nothing, Senior Bearskin. It’s merely a commotion because of the auction," the staff member quickly answered.

The man’s eyes fell upon the flower on the shelf. "Oh, we’re selling the Miracle Ascendance Flower? That’s good."

He then turned toward Alex.

"Is there any trouble?" the man asked him. "These people aren’t threatening you, are they?"

That was the last thing Alex had expected the man to ask.

"No, they are not. They’re merely trying to persuade me not to bid on the flower. That’s all," Alex said.

The man’s eyes narrowed. "Do you want the flower? I see no reason for you to need it."

"It’s not for me. I’m buying it for her," Alex said, gesturing toward Ronron beside him.

The caretaker quickly nodded as he understood the situation and walked over to the flower on the shelf. He picked the flower up and walked toward Alex.

With everyone watching, the man presented the flower to Alex.

"Our Red Garnet Alchemy Pavilion is honored to have you visit us. Please accept this gift on our behalf."
