Han Xiao estimated Baltar to have a max HP of 300. Coupled with that destructive blow from earlier on, Han Xiao knew that he was probably at half health already.

this damage system thing is bad. it really messes up the readers perspective. is this a game or reality? whats the author trying to do here? these numeric points of damage and "health bars" (omg 300 health no way!) are really bad to say the least. for example, dealing damage on different parts of the body should have different effects that has nothing related to a health bar (instant death / (movement / sight / hearing) impairment / fainting / actual pain). health bars dont even exist irl. you dont just die after youre dealt XXX damage. youre either alive or youre not.

see now, if you decide to factor that kind of shit in and weigh the points like that, why not just start using actual units of measurement, like "bob hit with the force of a speeding truck" or "with 50 pounds of force" then just continue describing what happens (ribs broken, slit throat, ETC) instead of some arbitrary number that means NOTHING to the reader?

its pretty obvious at this point that the author uses these "in-game" measurements for damage and health because hes too lazy (or doesnt know how) to narrate the damage being dealt. after all, why should you do your research and properly describe a fight scene if you could just slap a random number and say "omg 2 ribs broken, so much damage being dealt! (-50 -50 -50 -50 -20 -69 -420)"

also what the actual f#ck are these fight scenes anyway?

Baltar was sent flying into the wall. 4 or 5 of his ribs were broken by the force of the impact. As he got up, he coughed a mouthful of blood and looked at the newly emerged Han Xiao in disbelief.

how the f#ck do you get sent flying into a wall while the mc is just standing there? newtons 3rd law..

how the f#ck do you get sent flying into a wall and ONLY have 4 or 5 ribs broken? shouldnt you have a hole in your chest? if its a car hitting you then sure flying into a wall is reasonable, but a fist? newtons 2nd law..

ok lets just assume BALTAR's body is as light as a feather but sturdy as an elephant. why is he using a gun? just punch the mc to death with your superior physique.

Ok, since you clearly don’t understand, let me explain. He is living inside a video game. He has the system even though he is the npc, and since it is like a reality inside the semi-hyper realistic video game you think that he should get the system and not health. Furthermore the dude was a power leveler for years playing the game. He got past the highest known rank and what not. From his experience he would have to measure it all in health points. Since you are taking this from a realistic perspective… how in the ever living f#ck did you not notice this. I could even keep going but you will probably complain or argue or just do something else, so christ on a god damn crutch, stfu and read.

Your only point that made sense wasn’t plausible. The guy was almost a superhuman so he had a superior physique. Ever heard of absorbtion? There you go. His body endured and absorbed most of the impact, which caused major internal damage. So instead of getting a hole in his chest, he flew back.

You probably know it already, but he did mention that game factors many things into what is called defense and offense (damage). There was a whole half of a chapter to explain it.
Even here. He dis 87 damage, but arm is only 40 and his base stat is below 40. If it was only game-like, he wouldn't deal as much damage. It reached 87 because all other conditions were factored. If the rib pierced his lung during movement, I guess an additional damage would show how much more his body can handle. I think it portrays well how dangerous the wound is for his survival.
As for Newton, there may be few explanations. One is friction. MC could stand so as to maximize it.
Second is angle. If the punch was relatively upward (while still being directed forward) (↗️), it could bump the guy up while it pressures you down, letting friction balance the momentum.
Also, the velocity MC had while closing in for the punch could nullify the backwards momentum.
He's also heavier with the arm.

      Hope it helps.

how the f#ck do you get sent flying into a wall while the mc is just standing there? newtons 3rd law..

Ah, someone clearly hasn't studied real physics.

Since force is the change in momentum over time, and every force also has an equal and opposite counterforce, it is indeed reasonable to assume that since Baltar's momentum changes, Han Xiao must also experience an equal and opposite force.

However, the reason why MC can stand still is because there is friction from the f#cking ground, you retard. If I punch you and knock you down, do I also get knocked down? Of course not, because the friction force at my feet will keep me stable.

how the f#ck do you get sent flying into a wall and ONLY have 4 or 5 ribs broken? shouldnt you have a hole in your chest? if its a car hitting you then sure flying into a wall is reasonable, but a fist? newtons 2nd law..

OH BOY YES I AM THROWN AGAINST A FLAT WALL I SHOULD HAVE A HOLE IN MY CHEST BECAUSE CLEARLY ALL THE FORCE IS DIRECTED AT A SPECIFIC LOCATION ON MY BODY INSTEAD OF BEING APPROXIMATELY EVENLY SPREAD ACROSS MY BODY DUE TO HOW EACH INDIVIDUAL SECTION OF MY BODY WILL RECIEVE A SEPARATE IMPULSE TO CANCEL ITS MOMENTUM DEPENDING ON WHEN AND HOW IT HITS THE WALL

Since you're just an armchair expert and don't have any real knowledge of physics, please shut the f#ck up and stop disgracing real respectable physicists.

Well of course Baltar used a gun. We're not at the level of superhuman abilities where people can just go "I fast I block bullet bare hands durr" yet. Besides, he has eyes. I don't know who's stupid enough to bring fists to a knife fight, but it isn't him.

With regards to your "health bar" complaint, nobody said this is earth, maybe the whole 'energy' concept is what makes it work. Also, the different effects that you said should exist do exist. It's just that you feel that the system should announce that those effects happen, it doesn't, and you don't have the reading comprehension to see that it DOES happen, and you whine about it in the comments.

The rib breaking thing is ridiculous. We don't know how fast Baltar was sent flying, and he got hit into a flat wall where the impact would spread out. His obviously well developed muscles absorb impact and he probably has raised bone density from the same superhuman physique you pointed out. Do you think this is cultivation where people keep ten blood packs under their shirt to spit out blood from a "serious injury" that they'll receive ten times over and be able to fight with anyways? People are fragile, but we're not made of glass.
