Chapter 262: Going Unrivaled |
Acting without hesitation, Bai Mu retrieved the Survivor's Backpack and opened it.
He was currently surrounded by ghosts and monsters. Given his situation, it went without saying what the Survivor's Backpack would yield—combat items, of course.
This small, modernized backpack intelligently provided Bai Mu with three items: three large bags of cinnabar, sulfur, and realgar. The walking corpses in the tomb were fundamentally different from the Zombies in Journey of Death. The latter were much more fragile; a bullet to the head or a blunt strike to crush their skulls would easily kill them. The former, however, were evil entities forged through corpse-refining arts. Not only did they have fewer weak points, but their bodies were also incredibly tough. Using firearms to fight these walking corpses and ghosts would yield no advantage. Therefore, these three large bags of materials, which could be mixed into Earth Yang Fuel to ignite the Flame of Earth Yang, were the ultimate enchanted weapons for slaying ghosts.
As for why a survivor's backpack would contain cinnabar, realgar, and sulfur, the answer was simply that it had everything. After all, when scavenging through ruins, survivors would stuff absolutely anything they found into their bags.
This backpack was truly handy. Even though it could only be used once per Script, the items it produced had never let Bai Mu down. The faces of Leon, Sam, Katie, and Anton briefly flashed before his eyes, almost as if they were lending him a hand. Sleeping and playing cards in that abandoned factory felt like something that had just happened yesterday, but in reality, many days had already passed.
In this lifetime, they probably wouldn't have the chance to meet again, but the things they left behind would continue to accompany him on his journey.
"Then, let the slaughter begin," he declared.
He drew his Flaming Sword and mixed the Earth Yang materials. These three large bags were enough to last him a very long time, as each bag weighed about one kilogram. This longsword, which possessed a fire attribute and could be coated in flames, ignited with a pale blue-white light. The moment he exposed himself to the ghosts' line of sight, the walking corpses covered in river mud turned to look at him. They reached out with their dark blue nails, hooked like fishing lures, and lunged forward to strangle him.
Bai Mu remained silent. He swung his blade and slashed.
[Secret Sword Art Experience +7]
'A single slash actually failed to sever its neck. Its defense is significantly higher than those Zombies transformed from tomb raiders; they are almost as hard as bronze and iron.' 'If I hadn't found the Earth Yang method, they would have been genuinely difficult to kill,' Bai Mu thought. 'However, the experience points awarded are quite generous. It seems I can grind a massive wave of experience here.'
He wasn't in a rush to summon Xiao Wei. With the ghosts clustered so densely, Xiao Wei's newly learned Beast Spirit Summoning would be of great use, but it would steal his experience points. Furthermore, killing them too quickly wasn't necessarily a good idea; it might trigger whatever was inside the Main Tomb Chamber to directly unleash some sort of ultimate attack, forcing him to exit the Script early.
Through the vision provided by the Guard Mushroom, he saw Scattered Fireflies and I Love a Sword turning back. He had no idea how long it would take them to reach the exit, so killing slowly would buy his teammates more time.
If his teammates could successfully reach the exit, it would be beneficial for him as well. The team reward was one aspect, but additionally, his Guard Mushroom was still stuck to Scattered Fireflies' shoulder. If he evacuated early, this incredibly useful mushroom would be permanently lost.
"So, please don't die on the way while I'm fighting," he muttered.
More walking corpses and vengeful spirits were drawn to Bai Mu. Seeing a living human was like a man dying of thirst finding water; they had been unleashed for the sole purpose of slaughtering and drinking blood. These monsters were different from the Ghost Children he had encountered earlier; they were combat units specifically refined for battle. Bai Mu noticed fresh bloodstains on the teeth and nails of the walking corpses, as well as bits of flesh wedged beneath their fingernails, proving they had killed people outside and tasted the flesh of the living.
They were all vicious, malevolent spirits, but Bai Mu was no longer an ordinary human either. His physical attributes had broken past the limits of humanity, and he possessed numerous items and skills, perfectly fitting the setting of Extraordinary Experts.
He summoned a Charger to ram into the walking corpses. Now that he only needed thirty points of Mana to use this skill once, there was no need to be as stingy as before. After the Charger scattered the monstrous formation, he raised his blade and slashed. Using the Secret Sword Art did not consume Mana. Any monster struck by the Flaming Sword, which was enchanted with Earth Yang, instantly burst into flames. Whether they were walking corpses or those vengeful spirits letting out mournful wails, all were completely countered by this fire.
For a time, he moved as if passing through an empty land, effortlessly cutting down these ghosts one by one. The experience points for his Secret Sword Art skyrocketed, and in just a few short minutes, it leveled up to level 6.
While he was hard at work slaying monsters, Work Three Rest Four and Brewing Cat, who were outside his field of vision, were locked in a fierce battle with a Zombie wearing military armor.
The two had encountered this fully armed Zombie a short while ago. While searching for an Evil-Warding Beast, they stumbled into a place similar to the female ghost's Tomb Chamber. Because they hadn't found any additional information, they were unaware that this tomb housed a total of six elite monsters, refined from three men and three women. However, just by looking at its appearance and equipment, they knew this creature was on a completely different level from the ghosts they had faced earlier.
"If this keeps up... we're in trouble..." Brewing Cat frowned, casting a healing spell on Work Three Rest Four.
The girl in the black dress pulled out a broken dagger, engaging in a bloody melee with the burly Zombie wielding a large broadsword. However, her dagger couldn't pierce the Zombie's defense at all; instead, she had suffered several bleeding gashes from its blade.
A black, baleful aura seeped from her wounds, causing immense pain as if she were being scorched by a raging fire. Fortunately, Brewing Cat continuously healed and purified her, allowing her to barely hold on.
"If this keeps up, we're going to lose," Work Three Rest Four said, panting slightly. "I want to use that move."
"But... we haven't even found the Evil-Warding Beast yet..." Brewing Cat's brow furrowed tightly.
"But since I Love a Sword's path wasn't the exit, the probability that it's on our side has gone up quite a bit. Let's take a gamble," Work Three Rest Four said.
"It seems... we have no other choice," Brewing Cat said helplessly. "Then... use it..."
The two made their resolve. Work Three Rest Four swiftly retreated to Brewing Cat's side. Staring intently at the burly Zombie, she clenched the broken dagger between her teeth.
However, just as they were about to unleash their trump card, the Zombie swinging its broadsword suddenly froze, as if someone had pressed the pause button. Then, it abruptly turned its head, completely ignoring the two of them, and bounded away into the depths of the corridor on the other side, leaving the two girls in black and white dresses standing bewildered in the echoing silence.
