Chapter 452: the establishment of the Internet cafe

“Is the portal to Nolan closed today?”

The eldest son of the count, alterk, stood at the teleportation node in the middle of Fort Orson. He saw the magic light emitted by the teleportation node slowly disappear.

“Yes, Lord Alterk.”

A spell caster who was responsible for managing the teleportation node walked up to alterk and said respectfully.

“Every time Nolan’s teleportation portal opens, it requires three to six months of charging. The next time it opens might be during the fallen leaf moon.”

“Isn’t that six months later? !”

The young eldest son had an anxious expression on his face as he paced back and forth at the teleportation node like his father.

“What happened to Lord Alterk recently?”

The five spell casters who managed the teleportation node were also servants of the Cruz family. They were very clear about the eldest son’s character.

However, the eldest son, who was supposed to be obsessed with the Knight’s Gladiator competition, had been frequently shuttling back and forth between Nolan and Fort Orson through the teleportation portal.

“Has he fallen for Nolan’s girl again?”One of the spell casters asked in a low voice.

The whispers of these spell casters were clearly heard by alterk. He glanced at the five old wizards who were managing the node.

“Do any of you know how to use the weave at Fort Orson?”Alterk asked the question he was struggling with with his last glimmer of hope.

“Use the weave?”

The voices of discussion disappeared in an instant. The five spell casters looked at each other, and their old faces showed a pained expression.

“So Lord Edelke is troubled by the same thing as us?”

“You don’t Know?”

Edelke looked at the troubled expressions of the five spell casters, and his heart thumped as if it had fallen into an ice cellar.

The Count of Orson Fort had sent the most powerful and wise spell casters in the whole of Orson fort to manage the teleportation node. These five spell casters could be said to represent the highest attainments of Orson Fort in magic.

Among them was the most skillful magic mechanic.

“The weave is a magic form that we’ve never come into contact with before. We’ve only used the weave for fifteen days, and we still can’t solve the problem of ‘losing the network connection’,”the spell caster said regretfully.

“Lord Aitke! About this… i… I have a solution.”

At this time, a young apprentice walked out from the bookshelf behind.

“Jesse! Lying is not a good habit!”A spell caster scolded the apprentice who popped out.

“It’s… It’s true! Mentors, I live in the twenty-second street. From the day before yesterday, I opened… an Internet… bar in that street.”

The Apprentice tried his best to recall, and then said the name of the facility.

“Internet Cafe?”It was the first time that Alterk had heard such a strange word.

“You can also call it the Magic Net Tavern, which is a place that can provide magic net services,”the young apprentice explained.

“It’s actually a tavern? Whatever, where in the twenty-second street? Get On My Magic Car and show me the way.”

Alterk did not care whether the apprentice was telling the truth or not.

After the portal to Nolan was closed, he had completely lost contact with the magic net. He could not log into the spellcaster forum, nor could he go to the game zone to find a new game.

This terrible feeling made attek feel a sense of isolation for the first time in his many years of life.

It would take at least three months to drive from Fort Orson to Nolan. During that time, he had not taken into account accidents such as the attack of magical beasts or the siege of bandits.

“Yes, Lord Aitke.”The apprentice followed Aitke obediently.

..

In the twenty-second street of Fort Orson, Aitke got off the magic car and looked up at the building in front of him.

“Are you sure this is the place?”

The eldest son of the count sounded a little angry.

“Yes… Yes, my Lord. You can connect to the magic net in this silver-patterned chamber of Commerce.”The Apprentice did not know where Aitke’s anger came from. He answered the eldest son of the count timidly.

Everything that happened half a month ago seemed to be vivid in EDKO’s mind. His father ordered him not to provoke Dorothy, the girl from the Chamber of Commerce.

Edko had no intention of meeting Dorothy because everything that happened to him in Nolan had undoubtedly humiliated him. If Dorothy saw him, she would only ridicule him.

But just as the son of the count was about to leave angrily, he saw the scenery inside the chamber of commerce through the transparent glass window and immediately stopped in his tracks.

It was the magic net!

Attek would not be mistaken.

The architectural style of the headquarters of the silver-patterned chamber of Commerce was completely different from half a month ago. The interior decoration alone had begun to transform from an ancient business guild to a new kind of tavern.

Most importantly, Edko saw someone using the weave in the tavern!

At this moment, Edko could only brace himself and walk into the Chamber of Commerce.

“Welcome!”

A maid came forward to welcome Edko.

He did not pay attention to the maid. Instead, he immediately opened the weave and looked at the ‘signal display’at the lower right corner of his weave interface.

The signal display at the lower right corner was still gray, which was the so-called ‘no network connection’state.

Was he really lying?

“Well, sir, if you are here to use the magic net, you need to go to the front desk to open the connection of the magic net first.”The servant girl did not seem to recognize Aitke’s identity, as usual, she began to guide the guests who came to this chamber of Commerce for the first time.

The connection to the magic net still needs to be opened?

Aitke followed the direction the maid pointed to and looked at the front desk. Soon, he saw Dorothy’s figure behind the front desk.

At this moment, Dorothy also raised her head and saw the eldest son of the count. He knew that if he retreated at this moment, he might be looked down upon by this girl!

Aitke walked quickly to the front desk. He found two translucent magic web interfaces appearing at the front desk. This interface looked different from the magic web he used.

One of the magic web interfaces was occupied by a lot of tables. A lot of strange data was recorded on the tables.

“Sir, do you want to use the magic web?”

Dorothy recognized Aitke, of course, but she didn’t care about what had happened before. Like a maid, she treated Aitke as a very ordinary customer.

“That’s right. I heard that this place can be connected to Nolan’s ‘Network’?”

Etke scanned his surroundings. The entire hall of the Chamber of Commerce had been transformed into a place like a meeting hall. People were sitting at densely packed long tables, separated by a partition with engraved patterns.

Occasionally, one or two young people could be seen sitting at the same long table, shouting and shouting something.

AITEC could confirm that the people sitting at those tables were definitely using the magic net, or the kind that could connect to the internet, but his network signal was still gray.

“Of course, you only need to pay a certain amount of money to activate the access to the magic net.”

“You still need to pay? You Don’t need to pay in Nolan!”AITEC said with a cold face.

“This is not Nolan, Mr. AITEC.”

Although Dorothy had a smile on her face, her voice gradually became a little tough.

“You only need five diluels to enjoy the magic net’s usage time, which is far more comfortable than in Nolan. If you don’t think it’s worth it, you can leave.”

“I hope you don’t Lie to me!”

The eldest son of the count took out five diluels and put them on the table. ‘diluels’was equivalent to Nolan’s silver coins, which was not expensive for him, who was born in an Earl’s family.

“Thank you. Let Me See.”

Dorothy’s fingertips waved on the transparent magic net interface. After she clicked on a light green node, Edke really saw the gray signal in the lower right corner of his hand turn green again! It was still full!

“You can choose any seat and sit down. There are better facilities there for you to experience the magic net,”Dorothy said.

Seeing the signal of the magic net turn from gray to green again, the depression and anger in EDKE’s heart were quickly swept away by a joyful mood.

After he found a remote corner in the tavern and sat down, the son of the count saw two… strange magic-conducting machines on the table.

One of them looked very much like the virtual keyboard on the magic net, but the keyboard on the table looked like it was made of some kind of glue material, there was also something that looked like a ‘mouse’that was made of primary crystals on the side.

Was it locked?

The Count’s eldest son wanted to move the two things that looked rather annoying on the table, but he found that he could only move within a very small range with his own strength.

The table seemed to be engraved with a special inscription magic.

And just as Attek’s hand touched the two objects, a message popped up on his mana net interface.

‘new equipment connected. Do you wish to activate it?’

New… equipment?

Edke subconsciously clicked ‘confirm’. The keyboard made of unknown materials and the ‘rat-like’primary crystal in front of him suddenly emitted a dim light.

When EDKE tentatively reached out his hand to touch the primary crystal, a pointer appeared on the table.

Was this a substitute for the touch of the hand? Edelke quickly discovered that the function of the crystal was to substitute for the touch of the hand. Even the virtual keyboard on the magic net had become a product of the real world!

The feeling of the touch ringing on it! The mechanical texture soon caused the son of the count to immerse himself in the virtual world.

..

Dorothy glanced at the clock hanging on the wall. The time on it was already one o’clock in the morning.

According to the normal routine of the people of Orson Castle, this time should be the time when most people went to bed. Even the streets outside were quiet. Only one or two crystal lamps were shining.

However, when Dorothy looked at the hall of her chamber of Commerce..

“Attendant! Give me a croissant and milk!”

“A cup of hot black grass leaf juice over here!”

“Okay! Right away!”

The five attendants were busy walking back and forth with a large tray of food in their hands. Although the number of guests in the Chamber of Commerce Hall was much less than during the day, it was still very… lively.

At this time, Dorothy finally understood why Joshua had told her to ‘hire the night shift’before he left.

After all, it was the place where the name of the tavern was hung up. It was the most basic requirement to be open 24 hours a day.

This scene made Dorothy miss the Hearthstone Tavern far away in Nolan.

Unfortunately, Joshua did not have the time to move the machinery to play with the Hearthstone here. He could only wait until the next teleportation door opened.

“Miss Dorothy, I’m here to change shifts.”

A young maid walked to the front desk. This maid was Dorothy’s personal attendant. She had obviously just woken up. Her long, flaxen hair was a little messy.

“Anila, do you know what I taught you?”

Before Dorothy went back to rest, she made a final check on the maid’s operation.

“Miss! The gentleman from D-3 wants to add another two hours!”Someone ran to the front desk with a pile of silver coins.

Dorothy stood behind the maid and watched as she carefully controlled the ‘Internet Cafe Terminal’written by Joshua. Although the operation was still a little rusty, she did not make any fatal mistakes, and she successfully completed the operation of the overtime.

“Leave the Miss to me. You’ve been standing here for a whole day. I can manage it well.”The maid rolled up her sleeves and looked very energetic, it seemed that the girl had gradually adapted to the night life.

“Alright… make me a cup of black grass leaf juice. I’ll bring it to my room.”

This was the third day of the silver-patterned internet cafe’s opening, and Dorothy’s maid was also on the third day of her shift.

At first, Dorothy wanted to recruit some nocturnal humanoid creatures to be on duty, but after careful consideration, other than the legendary blood breeds and dark elves, there didn’t seem to be any other intelligent species that had the characteristic of nocturnal travel.

So, Dorothy could only return to her room under the suggestion of the maid, but she didn’t immediately lie down on her bed. Instead, she waved her hand and opened the interface of the weave.

‘The third expedition to the Twilight Zone! is everyone ready?’

‘Dorothy, not online.’

‘has that Dragon appeared yet? !’

Dorothy looked at the string of messages that popped up on her own message from the weave, and the tired expression on her face was instantly replaced by a satisfied smile.

‘My work is over. I’ll be there soon. Have you found the new land of the last shadow?’

‘the door has been found.’Fuya quickly sent Dorothy a message.

‘send me the coordinates!’

Dorothy logged into my world. She picked up the black grass leaf juice beside her and took a sip. The bitter feeling in her mouth swept away her exhaustion.

Humans were probably the third intelligent race that possessed nocturnal nature apart from the blood breeds and dark elves.

After all, the night was so long. It would be a waste to spend it all on sleeping.

‘Fuya dragon-slaying squad, set off!’

‘last time, it was called Fuya. This time, it should be my name!’

Dorothy’s pupils reflected the faint light from the magic net interface. Even though she was thousands of miles away from the people in the game, looking at these messages, she could feel that they were right beside her.

Chapter 452: The Establishment of the Internet Cafe
“Is the portal to Norland closed today?”

Count Akite’s eldest son stood at the teleportation node in the heart of Osenberg city. He watched as the magical glow emanating from the node slowly faded away.

    “Yes, Lord Akite.”

A spell caster, his duty to manage the teleportation node, approached the noble and spoke with deference.

“Each opening of Norland’s teleportation portal necessitates a three to six month recharge period. The next activation is anticipated around the time of the fallen leaf moon.”

    “Isn’t that six months later?!”

Anxiety etched itself onto Akite’s face as he paced back and forth at the teleportation node, mirroring his father’s nervous habit.

“Has something befallen Lord Akite recently?” The five mages overseeing the teleportation node, also members of the Cruz family’s household, were well-acquainted with the eldest son’s usual pursuits.

However, Akite, typically engrossed in the Knight’s Gladiator competition, had lately become a frequent traveler between Norland and Osenberg via the teleportation portal.

“Has a Norland girl captured his affections this time?” one of the spell casters murmured, his voice low.

Akite’s sharp ears caught the whispers. He cast a glance at the five mages attending the node.

“Does any among you possess the knowledge to resolve a magic net issue?” he inquired, clinging to this question as his last vestige of hope.

    “The magic net?”

The low hum of their discussion ceased abruptly. The five spell casters exchanged bewildered looks, their aged faces creased with concern.

“So, Lord Akite is grappling with the same predicament as ourselves?”

    “You don’t know?”

He observed the troubled expressions of the five spell casters, and a chill of despair settled in his heart.

The Count of Orson Fort had entrusted the management of this crucial teleportation node to the most formidable and astute spell casters in the entire city. These five individuals represented the pinnacle of magical expertise within Osenberg.

Among their ranks was the most accomplished magic mechanic in the region.

“The magic net presents a magical construct entirely foreign to our experience. Despite fifteen days of observation, we remain unable to rectify the ‘lost network connection’ problem,” the spell caster admitted with regret.

    “Lord Akite! Regarding this… I… I believe I have a solution.”

Just then, a young apprentice emerged from behind a towering bookshelf.

“Jesse! Fabricating stories is unbecoming!” a spell caster chided the sudden appearance of the apprentice.

“It’s… It’s the truth! Mentors, I reside on twenty-second street. Since the day before yesterday, they’ve opened… an Internet… cafe on that very street.”

The apprentice strained to recall the unfamiliar term before finally uttering it.
“Internet Cafe?” This peculiar term was new to Akite’s ears.

“It’s also referred to as the Magic Net Tavern, a place offering magic net services,” the young apprentice elaborated.

“It’s essentially a tavern? Regardless, where on twenty-second street? Prepare my magic car and guide me there.”

Akite paid little heed to the veracity of the apprentice’s claim.

With the Norland portal now sealed, his connection to the magic net was severed. He could no longer access the mage forum, nor venture into the game zone for new diversions.

This abrupt disconnection plunged Akite into an unfamiliar state of isolation, a sensation he hadn’t encountered in his privileged life.

The overland journey from Osenberg to Norland would span at least three months, a timeframe that didn’t account for potential perils like magical beast attacks or bandit ambushes.

“Yes, Lord Akite.” The apprentice followed with eager obedience.

On twenty-second street in Osenberg, Akite alighted from the magic carriage and gazed up at the building before him.

“Are you certain this is the location?” A note of irritation laced the count’s eldest son’s voice.

“Yes… Yes, my Lord. The magic net can be accessed within this Silver Flower Chamber.” The apprentice, oblivious to the source of Akite’s annoyance, answered the noble’s son with trepidation.

The events of two weeks prior remained vivid in his memory. His father’s stern warning against provoking Dorothy, the Chamber of Commerce girl, still echoed.

Akite had no desire to encounter Dorothy, as his recent experiences in Norland had been nothing short of humiliating. Her presence would only invite further mockery.

But just as the count’s son was about to turn away in frustration, a glimpse through the clear glass window of the chamber of commerce halted him.

'It was the magic net!' Akite was certain.
The architectural design of the Silver Flower Chamber of Commerce headquarters had undergone a significant transformation in the past fortnight. The interior, in particular, had begun its metamorphosis from a traditional business guild into a novel kind of tavern.

Crucially, he spotted individuals within the establishment actively using the magic net!
At that moment, Akite resolved to put aside his pride and step inside.

    “Welcome!”

A maidservant approached to greet Akite.
He ignored her, his attention immediately drawn to the magic net interface on his wrist, specifically the ‘signal display’ in the lower right corner.

The signal indicator remained stubbornly gray, the dreaded ‘no network connection’ state.

    'Had he been misled?'

“Excuse me, sir, if you wish to utilize the magic net, you’ll need to register at the front desk to activate your connection,” the attendant explained, seemingly unaware of Akite’s noble status, and proceeding with the standard greeting for first-time visitors to the chamber of commerce.

'The magic net connection required activation?'

He followed the maid’s gesture towards the front desk. Soon, Dorothy’s familiar figure came into view behind it.

Simultaneously, Dorothy looked up, her gaze meeting that of the count’s eldest son. He knew that retreating now would only invite her disdain.

Akite strode purposefully to the front desk. He observed two translucent magic net interfaces resting on its surface, distinct from the one he typically used.

One of the interfaces displayed a grid of numerous tables, each filled with columns of unfamiliar data.

“Sir, are you interested in using the magic net?”

Dorothy, of course, recognized Akite, but she showed no hint of their previous encounter. With professional detachment, she addressed him as just another customer.

“Indeed. I’ve heard this establishment offers connection to Norland’s ‘Network’?”

He surveyed his surroundings. The building’s main hall had been converted into a spacious area resembling a meeting hall. Long, closely packed tables filled the space, each divided by partitions adorned with intricate carvings.
Here and there, a young person or two sat together at a table, their voices animated in discussion.

Akite could confirm that the occupants at those tables were engaged with the magic net, or at least a system that interfaced with it, yet his own signal remained stubbornly gray.

“Certainly. A nominal fee grants you access to the magic net.”

“You still require payment? In Norland, it’s free!” Akite stated, his tone sharp.

“This is not Norland, Mr. Akite.”

Though a smile remained on Dorothy’s lips, her voice acquired a firmer edge.

“For just five diluels, you can enjoy the magic net with a level of comfort far exceeding what Norland offers. If you deem it unworthy, you are free to depart.”

“I trust you haven't deceived me!”

The count’s eldest son produced five diluels and placed them on the counter. Diluels, equivalent to Norland’s silver coins, were a trivial expense for someone of his standing.

“Thank you. Allow me to assist you.”

Dorothy’s fingers danced across the transparent magic net interface. With a tap on a glowing green node, the gray signal on Akite’s wrist instantly turned vibrant green, displaying a full connection!

“You may select any available seat. The facilities at the tables are optimized for a superior magic net experience,” Dorothy informed him.

The return of the magic net signal, shifting from gray to green, instantly banished the frustration and anger that had been plaguing Akite, replaced by a wave of elation.

He located a secluded corner in the tavern, and upon settling into his seat, his eyes fell upon two peculiar magic-conducting devices on the table.

One bore a striking resemblance to the virtual keyboard of the magic net, yet this keyboard was crafted from a pliable, rubbery material. Beside it lay an object resembling a ‘mouse,’ fashioned from originum crystals.

'Was a restriction spell in place?'

The Count’s eldest son instinctively reached to move these seemingly cumbersome objects, only to find them tethered within a limited radius.

The tabletop bore the inscription of what appeared to be a specialized magical enchantment.

The moment his hand brushed against the two items, a notification materialized on his magic net interface.

‘New equipment connected. Do you wish to activate it?’

    'New… equipment?'

Without conscious thought, Akite tapped ‘confirm.’ The keyboard of unknown composition and the ‘rat-like’ crystal before him emitted a soft, ethereal glow.

Hesitantly, he extended a finger to touch the crystal. Instantly, a pointer appeared on his interface.

Was this an alternative to direct touch? Akite swiftly grasped the crystal’s function: it served as a physical proxy for his finger. Even the virtual keyboard of the magic net had manifested into a tangible form!

The sensation of his touch registering on the keys, the subtle mechanical feedback, quickly drew him into the digital realm.

Dorothy glanced at the clock adorning the wall. The time indicated one o’clock in the morning.

By the usual rhythms of Osenberg’s inhabitants, this hour marked the time for slumber. Even the streets outside were hushed, illuminated only by the occasional glow of crystal lamps.

However, Dorothy’s gaze swept across the bustling hall of her Chamber of Commerce.

“Attendant! A croissant and milk for me, please!”

“A cup of hot black grass leaf juice over here!”
    “Coming right up!”

The five attendants bustled back and forth, their hands full with trays laden with food. Though the number of patrons had dwindled since the daytime rush, the atmosphere remained remarkably… lively.

At this moment, the wisdom of Joshua’s parting instruction to ‘hire staff for the graveyard shift’ dawned fully upon Dorothy.

After all, the sign outside proclaimed this a tavern, and a fundamental requirement of any tavern was round-the-clock operation.

The scene evoked a pang of nostalgia for the Hearthstone Tavern, nestled far away in Norland.

Regrettably, Joshua hadn’t had the opportunity to transport the necessary Hearthstone machinery to this location. She would have to wait until the next opening of the teleportation portal.

“Ms. Dorothy, my shift begins now.”

A young maid approached the front desk. This was Anila, Dorothy’s personal attendant, who had clearly just awakened, her long, flaxen hair slightly disheveled.

“Anila, do you recall my instructions?”

Before retiring for the night, Dorothy conducted a final check on the maid’s proficiency.

“Miss! The gentleman at table D-3 wishes to extend his time by another two hours!” An eager voice called out as someone hurried to the front desk with a stack of silver coins.
Dorothy stood behind Anila, observing as she carefully navigated the ‘Internet Cafe Terminal’ interface designed by Joshua. Though her movements were still a touch hesitant, she executed the overtime request without any critical errors.

“Leave everything to me, Miss. You’ve been on your feet all day. I can manage things perfectly well,” Anila declared, rolling up her sleeves with newfound energy, clearly having adapted to the nocturnal hours.

“Very well… please prepare a cup of black-grass leaf juice for me. I’ll take it to my room.”

This marked the third day since the grand opening of the Silver Flower Internet Cafe, and consequently, Anila’s third night shift.
Initially, Dorothy had considered recruiting nocturnal humanoid creatures for these late hours, but upon reflection, she realized that beyond the succubus, mythical blood breeds and dark elves, no other intelligent species possessed inherent nocturnal tendencies.

Thus, at Anila’s urging, she finally retreated to her room, though sleep was not her immediate priority. With a wave of her hand, she opened the interface of the weave.

‘The third expedition to the Twilight Zone! Is everyone prepared?’

    ‘Dorothy, offline.’

‘Has that Dragon made an appearance yet?!’
Dorothy’s eyes scanned the string of messages that popped up in her magic net inbox, and the weariness on her face melted away, replaced by a contented smile.

‘Just finished work. I’ll be there shortly. Have you located the new land of the last shadow?’

‘The portal has been found,’ Fuya’s swift reply appeared.

    ‘Send me the coordinates!’

Dorothy logged into her virtual world. She picked up the black grass leaf juice beside her and took a sip, the bitter taste a welcome contrast that chased away her remaining fatigue.

Humans were likely the fourth intelligent race, after blood breeds, dark elves, and succubi, to embrace a nocturnal existence.

After all, the night was so long. To dedicate it entirely to sleep would be a waste.

‘Fuya dragon-slaying squad, prepare for departure!’

‘Last time, it was called Fuya’s squad. This time, it shall bear my name!’

Dorothy’s pupils reflected the soft glow of the magic net interface. Though separated by vast distances from her companions in the game, reading their messages created the comforting illusion of their close proximity.
