Chapter 2213: Echoes of the Ocean Legend (part 8): Each of their Schemes |
......
Sensing the commotion in the distance, Shin immediately realized that something must have happened to the four commander-level sweepers that he had completely ignored until now.
"That must be the twin that Alucard had talked about," he mumbled while forcing the three ice clones in retreat.
He then turned to Leviathan and said. "It seems like your people have been caught as well."
"Hmph!" Leviathan ignored those words before looking at the entire battlefield through his special eyes.
From his perspective, the ground within a two to three-hundred radius was currently under a special formation, which had been setting up in secret since earlier.
This was his final card, which he prepared for similar situations.
All he needed right now was a good opportunity to release the spell. He also had to make sure that he would not just accidentally kill Shin but seal him instead.
For someone of this caliber, it was much better to capture them rather than kill them since it would serve their organization well.
It was similar to the fate of the demonic players that had been captured by the players affiliated with the Righteous Churches.
The only difference was the purpose of capturing the opposing party.
Players from the Righteous Churches captured the demonic players in exchange for merits, which they could use to strengthen themselves. As for what would happen to those demonic players, no one cared since it would be handled by the churches anyway.
The higher the rank of the said demonic player, the more merit points they could earn.
The Demonic Players could also earn themselves merits if they could counter-capture a player affiliated with the Righteous Churches. The higher their ranking with the said church, the more merit they could earn correspondingly.
However, only regular demonic players would do something as useless as that. For high-ranking individuals within the Demonic Churches, they could do much more.
One of them was to create a powerful demon slave that could aid them in battle or even transform and evolve the True Demon Creatures that they had formed a contract with, elevating their strength and level.
The stronger the player and the more righteous merits they had, the stronger the demon slayer would be produced or the more potent the evolution of the True Demon Creatures would become.
These effects would be even more effective and powerful if the said individual who had been captured was someone with their name engraved in the Hall of Legends and Hall of Fame.
This was also similar to some of the methods of the Corrupted Cult, which was something that Immortal, the Lich King, was infamous for.
However, the difference between the two was the limited number of demon slaves that the Demonic Players could produce and Immortal’s seemingly endless creation of an undead army, so long as his army and he took down their target.
...
"I heard that Lucifer has used a Godlike Player from the Top 50 of the Hall of Fame as a sacrifice to further strengthen the ritual that Beelzebub is undergoing and has created a powerful demon slave that will not lose to any of the god-level players that can be ranked at the top 30 or even a few in the top 20," mumbled Leviathan along with a deep frown.
"Tsk! Beelzebub has already become the vessel of the ’Glutton Demon King of the Flies’ and is currently undergoing a consolidation of power within the Bug Realm," he could not help but feel envious of Beelzebub whenever he thought about this.
This was also the reason why he wanted to seize this rumored portal that Felix and Felicia had found.
He chose to stay on this world and not join the others from the Pandemonium Descendants in their great migration to the Hell Realms because he wanted to open a Hell Realm that belonged to him, just like how Beelzebub was about to become a monarch of the Bug Realm.
Clenching his fist, Leviathan continued to wait for his opportunity. If he were successful and captured Shin, then he would gain an extremely powerful demon slave that would far surpass any other, while also getting rid of one of the greatest variables that their organization had.
"Moreover, I can also open a demon portal if those foolish people tried to open it in this situation," he mumbled while also casting his gaze at a certain distance.
There were ways for him to corrupt the portal. One of them was to use the demonic core in his possession to corrupt it through direct contact with the portal itself, while the other was to interfere with the process of unsealing by sacrificing two legendary items, one being the demonic core, while the other was a treasure related to the realm beyond that portal or something that shared a similar attribute.
"I have paid a huge price by sacrificing almost all of my accumulated wealth within the church just to get my and ’that’ thing. Let’s just hope that these guys will do just like what I have expected," he mumbled while continuing to control his ice clones and army to try suppressing Shin.
"But accidents do happen, then I have no choice but to sacrifice everything and just blow the entire place up," he added, preparing for the worst-case scenario.
...
Bang! Bang! Ban!
In the meantime, Shin, who had been fighting the ice clones and the puppet army and ice golems for quite a while, was currently under an unknown pressure.
He was not sure what it was, but he was getting an ominous feeling the longer the battle continued.
Keeping Leviathan busy was somewhat favorable for him. After all, not only could he use the latter as a whetstone to hone his techniques and polish his combat style through this battle, but he could also keep such a troublesome opponent completely occupied.
He was also thinking of capturing the latter, but he knew that something was up with the opposing side.
However, these were not things that discouraged him from pursuing Leviathan directly.
If earlier, he was wary of the traps that Leviathan had laid on the ground, which he had found through his enhanced ’True Sight’, then this thing that had suddenly appeared just recently was something that had directly locked on him.
It was waiting for him to make a mistake before making their move.
"I remember that Diablo mentioned before that the members of the Pandemonium Troupe usually work alone. Aside from a few trusted aides and the sweeper units assigned to them, they will only be moving on their own."
"That is, unless they are doing a special or an extremely important operation," he mumbled, trying to recall everything he knew about these guys.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
He continued to repel the attacks of the opposing side and forced them into retreat for another time before continuing his thoughts.
"From the information that we have at hand, Leviathan should be operating alone. And just formed a temporary alliance with the members of the Demonic Church of Terror, particularly its Arch Heretic and the direct servant of that Demonic Dragon of Terror Dragulia, was it?"
"However, that guy is supposedly doing their whatever ritual at the Oath City and does not care about this portal or anything, so it is impossible for him to be in this location."
"Then it can only be someone from the Pandemonium Descendants who has sent her to either assist or monitor Leviathan. They will most likely interfere once he has fallen into an absolute disadvantage."
"There are also other changes that are not related to the Demonic Churches and just here to cause some trouble, either a rival guild or a secret force."
"Or they can also be from another faction within the Evil Faction, such as the Corrupted Cult."
Multiple ideas were entering Shin’s mind, trying to find the right answer to his questions. Unfortunately, without concrete evidence, he was unable to confidently come up with the right conclusion.
"Since it is already like this, then let’s take a small gamble," he mumbled to himself while turning toward a certain location, where another person was observing this battle.
"She is not even bothering to hide her presence. It is as if she is purposely telling us that she is watching this battle," Shin chuckled when he saw this, finding the other party’s personality rather interesting.
"Since she is so interested in this battle, let’s ask for some help for her so that no one can interfere with us," he mumbled before opening his system panel and sending a message request to Felcia.
*Ding*
Felicia, who was too engrossed in the battle, was suddenly disturbed by a notification and felt a little annoyed.
However, when she saw that it was a message request from Shin, she suddenly felt a little interested.
*Ding*
Right after accepting the request, the attached message appeared before her.
Sickarius: Since our friend here is too interested in this fight, I will not be polite to ask for a little assistance.
Sickarius: Please, keep an eye on our surroundings and look for anyone lurking in the dark. I can’t launch a finishing move because of this annoying pest stalking us.
Felcia immediately realized what Shin wanted her to do and immediately agreed, without any hesitation.
Felicia: Leave it to me. I will make sure that no one can interfere.
