Chapter 799: Battle Of Soul Remnants—A Reflection Of The Past |
After countless years, the Elemental Dragon descended upon the world again, carrying with him the memories before his death.
He remembered everything that had happened before his death, and as his flesh and blood regenerated, he became acutely aware of everything happening within his body.
Just as Lin Moyu had suspected, the Zerg had occupied his corpse.
The law of fire erupted—not outward, but inward.
Flames exploded from within the Dragon himself, instantly engulfing his entire body, turning him into a Fire Dragon.
His surface burned crimson, and every inch of his insides was incinerated as well.
Lin Moyu immediately understood what he was doing: cleansing his own body.
For Transcendent God-level, laws were no longer mere powers to invoke, but forces completely under their control.
Using the law of fire to burn away foreign objects from within was effortless for a being of that level.
Beneath Transcendent God-level law of fire, the Zerg were suffering unimaginable torment.
“Filthy vermin… perish!” The Dragon roared, his voice seething with fury as the flames intensified.
At last, after one final shrill cry, silence returned.
The flames died down.
“It’s finished.” Lin Moyu said calmly.
The Elemental Dragon turned toward him, reverence filling his eyes, “Fire Elemental Dragon Rex greets Master.”
Even though he retained the memories from before his death, he could only treat Lin Moyu with the utmost respect.
Lin Moyu asked, “How did you become a puppet of the Zerg?”
Rex searched through his memories before answering, “Long ago, the Dragon Race participated in a great war. Countless Dragons fell during that time.”
“Sometime after my death, Puppet Insects infested my corpse, turning me into a servant of the Zerg.”
“Damned Zerg! To defile the bodies of the great Dragon Race… the Dragon God will never forgive them.”
Although Rex was bound to Lin Moyu, he still possessed the emotions and pride of a Dragon.
Like Antares, he looked upon the Zerg with utter contempt.
Lin Moyu nodded, “If I have the chance, I’ll relay this matter to the Dragon God.”
Rex raised his head and stared at Lin Moyu, “You’ve met Lord Dragon God?”
Lin Moyu nodded, “Once. Perhaps we’ll meet again someday. Even if I don’t, I have a friend who can.”
“Your friend is also a Dragon?” Rex asked eagerly.
Lin Moyu took out Antares’s scale.
The moment Rex saw it, he immediately dropped to his knees and prostrated himself on the ground.
“To think Lord Antares is your friend! Master, your greatness rivals even his!”
For the first time, Lin Moyu realized Dragons could be surprisingly flattering.
Of course, part of it was likely due to the influence of the Raise Dead law art—and the overwhelming prestige of Antares himself.
“You know Antares?” Lin Moyu asked.
Rex replied respectfully, “I once had the honor of meeting him.”
Lin Moyu gave a nod, “When I return, I’ll tell him everything and see how he wishes to handle it.”
Rex nodded vigorously.
“Please do, Master! What the Zerg have done is a grave desecration of the Dragon Race. Once Lord Dragon God learns of this, the Zerg will face retribution.”
Lin Moyu turned toward the region shrouded in dark mist.
“Do you know what’s going on there?”
Rex shook his head.
He had likely died long before the Burial Ground of Gods came into existence and knew nothing of the events that followed.
“Then let’s go take a look.”
At Lin Moyu’s command, Rex charged straight into the dark mist without hesitation, utterly disregarding his own safety.
To a resurrected, Lin Moyu’s will was absolute.
At the same time, Lin Moyu dispatched more than 10,000 Skeletal Divine Warriors to accompany Rex into the mist.
Even after they entered, his connection to them remained intact.
Through the sight of the undead, he observed the things unfolding inside.
Visibility within the dark mist was extremely poor. One could barely see more than a few meters ahead.
As they advanced carefully through the mist, rows of gravestones gradually came into view.
Each gravestone radiated a formidable aura.
Lin Moyu quickly realized that every being buried here had been at the very least half-step Transcendent God-level.
Most of the auras belonged to the human race, while the auras of Gods were comparatively scarce.
The skeletons approached the gravestones, revealing the inscriptions engraved upon them.
Human—Grave of Scarlet Flame Spear God.
Human—Grave of Ethereal Moon God.
God—Grave of the Cyclone God.
…
At the deepest part of the graveyard stood several larger gravestones, each radiating an overwhelming aura.
Lin Moyu finally saw the names engraved upon them.
“Human—Grave of Sword Venerable.”
“Human—Grave of Fist Venerable.”
These were the graves of Transcendent God-level powerhouses.
Back then, both God-level and half-step God-level were collectively called God.
As for Transcendent God-level, they were called Venerable, a mark of supreme honor and reverence.
Before Sword Venerable’s gravestone, a small sword hovered silently in midair as boundless soul force gathered from every direction. Sword Venerable’s soul remnant was recovering.
This was no ordinary graveyard.
This was the true Burial Ground of Gods, the resting place of the humans and the Gods.
Suddenly, Rex turned toward another side of the cemetery.
Dense dark mist shrouded the area, obscuring everything.
Though nothing could be seen, the chaos of laws and the surging tides of soul force hinted at the truth.
A battle was raging.
“Let’s take a look.”
Lin Moyu already had a suspicion, but he needed to confirm it himself.
As Rex approached, the scene finally became clear.
Soul remnants were locked in a fierce struggle.
Though battles between soul remnants could never reach the scale of the great war, this one was no less savage, perhaps even more tragic.
Several hundred human and God soul remnants fought desperately against a vast army of Zerg and Dreadbeast soul remnants numbering in the thousands.
The enemy overwhelmed the human and God soul remnants through sheer numbers alone.
Among the Zerg and Dreadbeast soul remnants were also corpses like Rex—beings long dead, now manipulated by the Zerg as puppets.
Despite being surrounded and heavily outnumbered, the human and God soul remnants refused to retreat even a single step. They fought with everything they had.
At that moment, Lin Moyu felt as though he were witnessing the ancient great war itself.
Back then, the humans and the Gods had faced impossible odds, trapped by schemes and crushed beneath overwhelming enemies.
Yet the humans and the Gods had united, awakened the world will, and fought to seize victory through sheer determination.
Even death had failed to end the battle.
Their bodies had perished, but their souls endured.
Clinging to their final convictions, the soul remnants continued fighting without rest across countless years.
Lin Moyu felt something stir deeply within him, “The battle of soul remnants here… is a reflection of the past.”
“You’ve fought long enough. Leave the rest to me.”
He let out a quiet sigh and lightly pointed a finger.
In an instant, the winds howled.
The Undeath World descended, and the Undead Eye opened in the air.
Lin Moyu stepped into the Undead Eye and began systematically annihilating the soul remnants of the Zerg and the Dreadbeasts.
These Transcendent God-level soul remnants possessed terrifying strength, enough to kill even half-step Transcendent God-level.
But before the Undead Eye, they had encountered their bane, utterly powerless to resist.
As the soul remnants were annihilated one after another, the Zerg controlled corpses surged upward, attempting to destroy the Undead Eye.
But the undead army had already formed a defensive wall before it, blocking every assault.
Rex also charged into battle. A breath attack erupted from his jaws as he roared furiously, “I’ll slaughter every last one of you filthy creatures!”
At the same time, vast numbers of undead emerged around Lin Moyu, charging into the dark mist to join the battle.
Since he had chosen to intervene, he would end this decisively, crushing the enemy with overwhelming force.
