    Sounds like he turned delusional. Or perhaps he is just a man at the end of his ropes missing home. He left home for 8000 years and only secluded himself here 400 years ago. So he might have spent thousands of years trying to find a way home already and kind of gave up at this point, instead choosing to believe in "destiny". Their only connection might be that they came from the same world so their bodies use a similar power system.
