    Let's make a summary, because comments below are rich in theories and confusing at times.
    - There are transmigrators kept above grey fog like meat in a freezer.
    - 3 of them already descended on Earth at some time (Klein and Roselle are most likely a part of those 3)
    - MC is sad, because he thinks that someone or something took a bunch of people and kept them there for unknown period of time, before releasing him. That means that potentially hundreds of years might've passed, and his family is likely dead, rendering his reason for living obsolete. (Roselle was spawned 200 years earlier)

    This is Klein's viewpoint. Everything else is for now headcanon.

      you didn't read the comment from the previous chapter? It was a clear clue from the chapter itself when the author was describing Bizzaro Sorcerer power and relationship with his marrionette and few chapters back confirming the mysterious gray fog is from the Sheer pathway, one guy which I fully agree, mentioned in the comment that those cocoons could be the celestial's marrionette. Thus that means Zhou Mingrui is one of the marrionette or a back up plan for the celestial to revive himself.

    So, the people in the cocoons experience time much faster, so during the year Klein has been in this world, which I guess can be said to be the "real" world, time for the cocoon world/Earth passed by roughly 1000 years?

    So even if he could find a way back into an empty cocoon, everything is already gone... Fu#king hell, good luck to Klein and his mental state...

      nah, taking all the comments and clues from the story up to now. I guess the cocoon is for the transmigrators or survivors of old earth. Huang Tao Roselle was living on Earth with approximately the same year as Zhou Mingrui but he lived in this beyonder world 300 years earlier than Zhou Mingrui. I suspect one of those cocoon was Roselle, one is Zhou Mingrui and the other opened cocoon will be explained later in the future. Why Roselle was one of them? Because his silver plate generate the same gray fog, that's why!

      This cocoon, based on the description of Bizzaro Sorcerer power and confirmation that the gray fog space is from Sheer pathway, could be explained by somehow a marrionette of the original possesor of the gray fog a.k.a the celestial. That makes Zhou who lives almost at the same time as Roselle on old Earth thinking that they are actually been taken by the same entity and woken up in different time only after the previous cocoon failed the requirements needed by the celestial.

      If you think about it, Roselle was a "protagonist" and related to the gray fog who make a name on 4th Epoch. Unfortunately he didn't chose Sheer and failed. Zhou Mingrui lived on 5th Epoch, he chose Sheer most probably because the celestial interference by showing Roselle's diary and Antigonus notebook. Most probably he met the celestial requirement. Going backwards, that means the previous cocoon before Roselle lived on 3rd Epoch and most probably chose different pathway that's why Roselle was summoned.

      Also going back by the timeline of Epochs, most probably old Earth was 1st Epoch. That's why Zhou Mingrui thought that it was all illusion. Meaning no way to go back to the home he missed so much because he was all the time on Earth, just different Epoch.

      I also think that this world is the Earth in future. And this "transmigrators" were take from history of this world (as we know power of Scholar of Yore).
      In previous chapter was interesting idea that they are marionettes of someone (The Celestial Worthy of Heaven and Earth for example) in an attempt to revive himself.
