Handwritten synopsis of this novel:

They do not know their past glory.

They do not know their past power.

They’ve been destroyed time and time again.

They have no free will.

They think themselves powerful while fighting for their own interests.

Those higher beings make sure of it.

They are born with contracts, yet they don’t know the meaning behind them.

They’ve long forgotten what it means to be “Human”.

Our protagonist, a young man named Zhanyue, just wanted to finish his PhD and live a leisurely life.

Unfortunately, he found himself transported to a turbulent world where everyone had already been cultivating since they were young, while those Evil beings had already been living for hundreds of years.

Cases of old Monsters who wouldn’t die possessing weaklings souls were all too common. And to make matters worse, the humans in this world were heading towards a world ending war with something called the “Nightmare” Race.

Wait, that’s not the worst of it!?

***

Original Synopsis: In this world, humans and contracted objects coexist. Swords, spears, sabers, and halberds; firewood, rice, oil, and salt; water, fire, wind; pigs, dogs, oxen, and even sheep can all become contracted objects. Collapse

Got to Chapter 22 before dropping. It's not trash, but it is FULL of generic/cliche stuff.

MC stumbles across a princess when he first transmigrates, he then Contracts with the Corpse of a "goddess". He pretends to be a generic contractor to try and be low key, which ends up with him being mocked by others and conscripted into the military. A random kid runs out in front of a procession and MC saves them from being trampled. He ends up teleported into the wilderness with another princess and, upon his return, gets instantly targeted for assassination by some jealous higher up for having dared to spend 1 day with her etc.

There are also some cases where information is mentioned for the reader that makes no sense for the characters to say. In a secret meeting among high up Nightmare Race people, no-one is going to say:
“That’s right, but unfortunately I’m not in Sunset Wasteland at the moment. Our Nightmare race doesn’t have teleportation formations like humans do. Even if we possess corpses, we can’t use those formations. We’ve always been less mobile than humans.

If you don't mind these generic tropes/typical developments or you can turn off your brain, it will probably be an OK read. Otherwise I wouldnt really bother tbh.

its mostly a turn-off-your-brain kind of story, it gets enjoyable but only if you don't think that much about the tiny details

It’s definitely one of the “global” stories - if you enjoy OP mc who leverages a golden finger through to complete domination compared to the rest of humanity, give it a shot.

I like all the global ____ type stories, but fog is one of the better ones, the world is mysterious and dangerous, and the powers are interesting with the downsides,

I've never been a fan of global type novels. I've checked out a fair number of them but none hold my attention more than 40 to 60 chs.
