    Chapter 375

The disciple who would represent the Feng lineage in the Qi Induction Realm and compete for the Senior Brother Token had been decided before everyone's eyes.

    It was...

    Su Hao.

Although many people were dissatisfied that he had sent Feng Yuer flying...

No one could deny one fact.

His Wind Bullet was truly extraordinary.

Even disciples at the fourth level of the Qi Induction Realm couldn't survive a single exchange against him.

    Everyone couldn't help but marvel.

A simple foundational spell like Wind Bullet had been cultivated to such an astonishing level that its power was already comparable to attacks from a Foundation Establishment cultivator.

    ---

    After this battle...

Su Hao gained a new nickname.

    Feng Yizhi.

The title of Feng Yizhi quickly spread throughout Cloud Zhong Valley.

Almost every disciple soon knew that the Feng lineage had produced an astonishing genius—

A handsome youth only thirteen or fourteen years old.

He also became one of the favorites to win this year's Senior Brother Token.

    ---

    Even after beating Feng Cheng...

Feng Yan still hadn't vented his anger.

The moment he saw Su Hao again, he wanted to beat up his precious "little brother" as well.

Fortunately, Feng Hua dragged him away.

This left Feng Cheng completely confused.

When Martial Uncle Feng Yan beat me...

Why didn't Martial Ancestor Feng Hua stop him?

Watching Feng Yan being forcibly dragged away, Su Hao couldn't help sighing.

"As expected... in front of good looks, everything else becomes insignificant."

    ---

With bruises all over his face, Feng Cheng leaned closer and whispered,

"Senior Brother... I still don't understand why Martial Uncle Feng Yan beat me..."

    Curious, Su Hao asked,

    "What exactly did you say?"

    Feng Cheng answered honestly,

"I just said, 'Senior Brother is amazing.'"

"When Martial Uncle asked me again, I repeated it..."

    "And then he beat me."

    Su Hao burst into laughter.

Patting Feng Cheng's shoulder, he said,

"Junior Brother, you didn't say anything wrong."

"You didn't do anything wrong either."

"This is simply how true immortals behave."

"Getting beaten isn't a big deal."

"How can a person grow without taking a few beatings?"

    "Remember this."

"You'll definitely accomplish great things in the future."

With that, he slowly walked away.

    ---

Feng Cheng's eyes immediately lit up.

    "Senior Brother!"

"Am I really suited for cultivating immortality?"

Without turning around, Su Hao replied,

    "Of course."

    Feng Cheng's eyes sparkled.

If Senior Brother says I can become an immortal...

    Then I definitely can!

    ---

    ...

    ---

Feng Yuer had already returned to her residence.

She had removed her shoes and was squatting atop a large reclining chair, hugging her knees.

    Her eyes were slightly red.

She stared blankly at the floor.

Today's defeat had dealt her an enormous blow.

    Perhaps...

She wouldn't recover from it anytime soon.

    ---

    She couldn't understand it.

She had actually been completely powerless against a Junior Brother several years younger than herself...

Someone who had seemingly entered the sect only recently.

    Even more unbelievable...

    Her treasured artifact—

    The Dream Shuttle—

Hadn't even managed to touch a single strand of his hair.

It had passed straight beneath his raised arm.

    ---

    Feng Yuer's beautiful dream...

    Had shattered.

    Am I really a genius?

She had always believed the answer was yes.

    Without the slightest doubt.

But today's battle had overturned everything she believed.

She arrived at a new conclusion.

    I'm not a genius.

I'm not the unparalleled genius Master always said I was.

    ---

Feng Yuer was an intelligent girl.

    She keenly sensed something.

Master... may have lied to me.

    Her thoughts became increasingly chaotic.

    ---

Master said cultivation was to become an immortal...

To stand at the peak of the world and witness scenery no one else could.

    But...

Why does it feel like you're lying to me?

I've always tried hard to believe you.

But if I can't even defeat a Junior Brother...

How can I possibly be the chosen one?

As Junior Brother Feng Wei said...

    I'm just an ordinary person.

    Master...

How can I continue believing in the beautiful dream you've woven for me?

    Why did you lie?

Do you have some other purpose...?

    ---

    The more she thought...

    The more frightened she became.

    For some unknown reason...

The thought of facing her master now filled her with a chilling sense of fear.

She no longer knew what she should do.

    ---

    Meanwhile...

Feng Qianye frowned as she looked at her dejected disciple.

Have I spoiled this child too much?

    I never noticed before...

Her heart is actually this fragile.

She can't even withstand a single setback.

    If this continues...

How will she ever break through to the Nascent Soul Realm?

    After pondering for a while...

    Feng Qianye silently thought,

    Should I choose someone else?

    Time waits for no one...

    ---

    ...

    ---

    After Su Hao left...

Many Qi Induction disciples remained on Shouzhao Slope, exchanging pointers and practicing together.

    For newcomers like Feng Cheng...

It was an excellent opportunity to become acquainted with the senior disciples.

Tomorrow would be the competition for the Foundation Establishment Realm.

The Foundation Establishment disciples had already scattered to quiet places to make their final preparations.

Everyone wanted to display their best performance.

    ---

    Meanwhile...

Feng Ling followed Feng Hua to a secluded location.

Her voice carried a trace of sadness.

    "Master..."

"How... how did Senior Brother die?"

    Feng Hua answered calmly,

"The report from Ling Mountain Province says..."

"He was guarding a spirit stone mine when a large group of demonic cultivators suddenly attacked."

"He was beheaded during the battle."

    "He died on the spot."

"There were five disciples guarding the mine."

    "Only two escaped alive."

    ---

The moment Feng Ling heard the words Ling Mountain Province...

    Her body involuntarily trembled.

She instinctively pulled her robe tighter.

    Feng Hua sighed softly.

    "Little Feng Ling."

    "You're my only remaining disciple."

"I don't want anything to happen to you."

"Stay in the sect these next few years and cultivate properly."

"If you can reach the Golden Core Realm before leaving the sect..."

    "That would be best."

    ---

    As he spoke...

He took out a small porcelain bottle and handed it to her.

"This is a Golden Return Pill."

"I still haven't found what I'm looking for."

"After the Senior Brother Token competition ends..."

"I probably won't return for another three years."

    ---

    Feng Ling accepted the bottle.

    Her eyes became slightly moist.

The Golden Return Pill was an insurance policy for breaking through to the Golden Core Realm.

    If a breakthrough failed...

It could stabilize one's cultivation and prevent complete collapse.

    It was an invaluable treasure.

    Yet...

Breaking through to the Golden Core Realm was never easy.

She had only just reached the fourth level of the Foundation Establishment Realm.

    Without decades of accumulation...

    Her chances were slim.

    Even with sufficient accumulation...

    Success was far from guaranteed.

Nearly half of all cultivators remained trapped at this bottleneck for their entire lives.

This was the first true barrier on the path of cultivation.

    ---

After remaining silent for a while...

    Feng Ling suddenly remembered something.

    She looked worried.

    "Master..."

"I'm a little concerned about Feng Wei."

"He's attracting far too much attention."

    ---

    Feng Hua replied calmly,

"You should worry about yourself first."

    "With Feng Wei's talent..."

"The chances of anything happening to him before the Nascent Soul Realm are extremely small."

"His talent is both his greatest weakness..."

    "And his greatest protection."

"Everything depends on how he handles it."

    ---

    Feng Ling looked surprised.

    "Why?"

Feng Hua merely shook his head.

"You don't need to know yet."

    "Focus on your cultivation."

"When you reach the Golden Core Realm..."

    "I'll tell you."

    ---

Feng Ling hated Feng Hua's habit of only explaining half of everything.

But there was nothing she could do.

She stamped her foot in frustration.

Then she bid farewell and went off to practice her spells in preparation for tomorrow's competition.

Whether she won or lost didn't matter.

    Participating was enough.

    ---

    Early the next morning...

Su Hao once again arrived at Shouzhao Slope.

Today's matches were for the Foundation Establishment Realm representatives.

He was particularly interested in observing how Foundation Establishment cultivators fought.

This was an excellent learning opportunity.

    ---

As for revealing hidden techniques during the competition...

That wasn't something anyone worried about.

No Foundation Establishment cultivator would expose their true trump cards in a friendly tournament.

    Unless...

They had no trump cards to begin with.

    These matches emphasized restraint.

Only commonly used offensive and defensive spells were displayed.

Once one side realized they couldn't win...

    They would simply concede.

When facing real enemies outside the sect...

The correct choice was to flee if necessary.

Cultivators valued their lives above all else.

    Life-and-death battles were actually uncommon.

    ---

    Furthermore...

Disciples of the same sect were generally united.

    Internal conflicts certainly existed...

    But they were rare.

    Outside the sect...

Fellow disciples were often the most trustworthy companions.

Helping one another was essential for survival.

Trying to survive alone in the cultivation world was extremely difficult.

The best example was wandering cultivators.

Life wasn't as carefree as outsiders imagined.

    It was filled with danger.

Even wandering cultivators usually formed groups of three or four simply to survive the regions between sects.

    ---

When Su Hao arrived at Shouzhao Slope...

Many Qi Induction disciples of the Feng lineage immediately recognized him.

As soon as they saw him, they enthusiastically greeted him.

    "Senior Brother Yizhi!"

    "Greetings, Senior Brother Yizhi!"

    "Senior Brother Yizhi is here!"

    ...

    Su Hao: "???"

Afterward, Su Hao gained a nickname: Feng Yizhi!

-Yizhi is two characters, Yi and Zhi.
-Yi is definitely 一, as in "one".
-Zhi can be 指, as in "finger", or "point [at]".
In other words, YiZhi means "one finger", or "one point [at]", because he only needs one finger/he only needs to point his finger at his opponent once to win.

Feng is the lineage name ;-; the last name. You just need to remember them by their first names usually. E.g. Master Yan, the formation chick he met in the fog. Junior Cheng, the subordinate. Senior Yuer, the pretty, strong one, etc. Also I've kinda just been assuming everyone in this sect is female automatically since they seem to have more females than most sects, at least that we've seen.
