    The whispers predict the future or are some type of revelation right? So far it's been "Fool" when he forgot about Obel. "Pathetic" right before Saint one shotted the sphere. And now "Useless" right before his chains failed and broke. I guess these have all been revelations of some sort if you kind of force it, foolish for forgetting Obel, pathetic that Saint was going to succeed where he failed, and useless because his chains ended up failing.

        Willing to die for another human(stranger) is not called characters development

        Granted mc can help and do lots of good deeds(character development. hell character development shit sunny should be sunny not gandalf)long as he is not stupidly saving somone in a situation where him dying is 90+% confirmed

        What mc doing at Antarctica contradicts his action.mc left soul serpent with rain to protect and provide for his family (nerfed himself )
        Which suggest mc cares for rain more than his life.now mc is caring for strangers more than his life or rains than he shouldn't have left soul serpent with rain ,in Antarctica with it he could have saved more and heck if he were to die rain would lose soul serpent also(all the more reason not to die)

          First of all, the reason he joined the expedition was cuz of that whole thing with the valor clan. He needed somewhere to lvl without their or modrets interference now that he joined the song clan. I thought that was kinda obvious?
          It wasnt purely altruistic but helping wherever he can is part of that whole conviction subplot. He wanted something greater than just surviving and this is it.
          It also kinda helps him keep his humanity.

          2nd, he cares about rain but he cant exactly babysit her constantly. Serpent was a compromise but story meta wise, it was to give this arc a greater sense of danger.
          So no, its not that he cares about strangers more, its that he wants to help who he can and lvl up at same time.
