Scarlet

The crowd goes absolutely wild the moment my silhouette is revealed on the screens.

“SCAARLEEEEETTT!”

“HER EMINENCE IS HERE!”

“THE FINAL BOSS IS THE BEST!”

“That’s right! You’ve guessed it!” Will exclaims while flying around the screens. “All of the most powerful beings in the universe are present except for the Demon King himself! So get ready to witness the younger and weaker clones of these people fighting against the young students! For it will be a tournament for the ages!”

“He seems to be enjoying himself,” Tar says, sounding amused. “He must’ve been born to be a commentator.”

“He certainly loves it,” I state with a smile.

This whole tournament sounds like a fun idea.

I focus on Aria’s screen as she gradually climbs the floors one by one. With her easily defeating most of the other students who come across her.

“Is it just me…” Tar mutters while narrowing his eyes.

“It’s not,” I answer. “Aria is excited and is pushing to climb the floors as quickly as she can. Possibly a little too quickly.”

Tar nods in agreement. And just as we both expected, she soon runs into a problem when the copy of a Class V demon who specializes in lightning and water magic appears out of nowhere and attacks.

The demon’s Class is brought down to Class IV, making them the same Class as Aria. Which is much stronger than the previous copies.

And Aria ends up struggling. Badly.

She’s caught by surprise when the demon takes over her water while also sending large amounts of lightning through it all to strike at her.

Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.

I don’t feel very worried about her though. Especially when she manages to summon numerous enormous tentacles that slam into the demon. Knocking them away and letting her escape.

Then she comes back after recovering and attacks the demon in her own surprise attack. Crashing into him and killing him in one go through brute force strength in the form of massive tentacles.

I smile at the sight of Aria maturing after that and slowing down. So, instead of rushing the floors, she is taking her time to climb.

And that’s perfectly fine. She’s already built a good bit of distance between herself and the other students. Enough that she has plenty of room to relax.

I continue watching Aria’s climb for a bit before looking at the other competitors. And most of them are being wiped out one after another. With each defeated competitor reappearing within the stadium after their deaths.

“I wonder if they made a copy of me too?” Tar wonders aloud while sitting up a bit straighter. Clearly excited about the idea. “I could help your copy fight, and it would make this tournament a much greater challenge!”

Yeah, I have to wonder about that. Considering you never fought at all when I was Class V.

Of course, I make sure to keep that thought to myself. Using my power to block Tar from hearing said thought.

Which is a convenient thing that I’m glad I started being able to do.

Privacy is a nice thing, after all.

I don’t often hide my thoughts, but just the fact that I can is great.

“Scarlet?” Tar asks, making me glance down to find the tanuki with his head tilted up to meet my gaze. “Is something wrong?”

“Everything’s fine,” I tell him while patting his head and looking at the screens again. “Do you think the competitors will work together? Or will their pride get the better of them?”

“I’m thinking they will work together,” Tar answers without looking disappointed. Seemingly not figuring out that I was changing the subject. “Everyone knows how powerful the Wolf of the Blood Moon is. There’s no way anyone is going to try fighting you alone.”

Hmm. Yeah, I guess you have a point.

At this point, there isn’t anyone in the universe who can even survive a single poke from me.

Of course, the stronger people could survive it if it were just my physical strength poking them. But if they’re afflicted with the Red Plague, then they will be erased in an instant.

“If this is me before obtaining the Red Plague, then I can possibly see some of them trying to go at me alone,” I state while leaning my cheek against my fist, with my elbow on the armrest of the throne. “And this copy can’t have the Red Plague.”

Tar nods his head in agreement before resting his head on my leg as he says, “There’s no way they’re able to recreate the Red Plague. Even in an artificial world.”

“My thoughts exactly,” I state while narrowing my eyes at the screen. “But even with that, most of them wouldn’t go at me on their own.”

The Red Plague is something that devours reality itself. So there’s no way an artificial reality could copy it, much less withstand it.

And even if they did manage to copy the Red Plague, that would be incredibly dangerous for everyone.

The Red Plague can kill someone even if they’re in an artificial body. Which means the students would be at risk of being killed just from facing my copy if the copy had it.

On top of that, the Red Plague would probably bleed through the artificial reality itself. Destroying it completely and erasing everyone in it.

So there’s no way they would or could let my copy use the Red Plague.

Still. Regardless of what happens, it’ll be interesting.

I wonder what stage in my life this copy is really from? Or did they just try to make a copy of me and weaken it by taking away skills?

“I’m excited,” Tar says, pretty much speaking my feelings out loud for me.

I smile before focusing on the screens as Aria continues to climb through the floors one after another. Meanwhile the audience roars out their own excitement.

Let’s see what happens.

Will Aria wait for backup? Or will she try to take on my copy alone?

I can’t wait to find out.
