Chapter 36: Su Yue’s Shock! The Mysterious Slime-Masked Man!

“What’s wrong? Afraid to show yourself?”

The woman in the Three of Spades mask let out a cold laugh, tapping her wooden staff against the ground. She gave a sharp command to the pack of Gale Wolves at her side: “My children, tear that car apart!”

“Awooo—!”

The wolves howled in unison, then surged forward, charging straight for the Maybach where Su Yue sat.

“Miss, should I contact the master?” the old butler whispered.

“No need. I’ll handle this.” Su Yue shook her head, reaching for the door to step out.

But before she could, a crimson glow streaked down from the sky, striking the lead Gale Wolf dead-on.

“What was that?”

Su Yue froze, her eyes wide as she stared at the blinding red light erupting amidst the dust.

There, atop the wolf’s corpse, stood a girl clad in gleaming red scales. One foot planted on the beast, hands on her hips, chin held high with haughty confidence. Behind her, a tail lashed the air, flicking back and forth with wild energy—

A tail?

Su Yue blinked, unable to believe her eyes.

What is that thing?

A human?

Some kind of mechanized armor?

No—

The way that tail and those wings moved—so natural, so fluid—there was no way they were mechanical.

A half-dragon?

While Su Yue was still reeling, she suddenly felt a gaze from her right.

She turned her head slowly—only to find herself face-to-face with a Slime Mask pressed right up against the car window.

“Eek—!”

Su Yue bit her lip, fingers twisting in her skirt so tightly she nearly cried out.

But, determined to maintain her composure as a lady, she forced herself to stay silent.

Inside, though, she was screaming: Who on earth are you?!

The mysterious Slime-Masked Man!

“Su Yue?”

At that moment, Bai Xuan also noticed Su Yue sitting inside the Maybach.

His attention shifted immediately to the woman in the Three of Spades mask.

“Is she from the same group as Cube-3?” he murmured under his breath.

He didn’t know much about this organization, but one thing was certain—they were enemies of the Investigation Bureau. A wicked force through and through.

People like these were no different from Anomalous Disasters—no,

They were Anomalous Disasters.

“Who are you people?”

The Three of Spades narrowed her eyes at Bai Xuan, suspicion flickering in her gaze. “Are you those damned Investigators?”

“What if I said no? Would you tell me how you’re controlling these Gale Wolves?” Bai Xuan asked coolly, gesturing at the wolves near her.

“Hmph! Dream on!”

She snorted, raising her staff and snapping out a command:

“Rip them to shreds!”

“Awooo—!”

Several Gale Wolves lunged, fangs bared, racing toward Bai Xuan and Mare Alera.

Mare Alera didn’t even flinch.

She raised her right hand, her voice icy cold: “Noisy. Begone, all of you.”

Before her words had faded, crimson lightning crackled in her palm.

She clenched her fist—

And in that instant, bolts of red lightning crashed down from the heavens, obliterating the wolves in a single stroke, leaving nothing behind but charred dust.

“What… what power is this?!”

The Three of Spades’ face twisted in terror.

She had never seen such a force—one capable of erasing F-grade Gale Wolves in an instant!

The remaining wolves shrank back, terror in their eyes, refusing to advance.

“Damn it… Retreat!”

Without hesitation, the Three of Spades leapt onto a surviving wolf and fled.

Mare Alera spun toward Bai Xuan, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

“Human! Wasn’t I awesome?”

“You were incredible, Little Mare.” Bai Xuan smiled in praise, then reminded her, “But we can’t just let them get away.”

“Okay! Let’s chase them down!”

Mare Alera unfurled her dragon wings, swooping to Bai Xuan’s side and holding out her hand.

“Human, give me your hand!”

“Mm.”

He took her hand, and with her help, they soared into the sky.

Su Yue immediately stepped out of the car, craning her neck to watch Bai Xuan and Mare Alera take flight, a flicker of confusion in her star-bright eyes.

Especially that man in the Slime Mask—she was certain they’d met before.

After all, she could always sense when someone felt “affection” toward her.

“Drive! Follow them!”

…

“Damn it! Who the hell are those people?!”

The Three of Spades galloped beneath the Qiantang Bridge, heart pounding with rage and fear. “What was that red lightning? It wiped out F-grade Gale Wolves in a heartbeat… That’s a monster!”

But—

She dismounted, her gaze locking onto something beneath the bridge—a cocoon, swirling with green wind, suspended in midair.

A twisted, eager smile crept across her lips. “It’s almost time. Soon, I’ll witness a miracle.”

“That woman’s blood is extraordinary!”

“It actually lets the Gale Wolves awaken their ancient bloodline!”

“If only there were more…”

“If I had more, all my children could undergo Evolution!”

As she stared, entranced by the wind cocoon, a voice suddenly rang out from above.

“So this is where you’re hiding.”

Her head snapped up. Two figures dropped from the sky, landing squarely in front of her.

“Who—who the hell are you?!” the Three of Spades demanded, voice sharp with panic.

Bai Xuan ignored her, his gaze fixed on the cocoon behind her.

He could feel the immense power within, the violent gale swirling around it, on the verge of bursting forth.

“Little Mare, deal with that wind cocoon first.”

“Yes, Human!”

Mare Alera stepped forward, falling into a battle stance.

Scarlet lightning of destruction danced in her palm.

“Don’t even think about it!”

The Three of Spades snarled, swinging her staff in fury. “I won’t let you hurt my child! Ancient Wolf Spirit, protect your bloodline! Slaughter our enemies!”

Even before her words had faded, a savage wind howled to life!

Blades of wind materialized, slicing viciously toward Bai Xuan and Mare Alera.

“Human! Watch out!”

Without a moment’s hesitation, Mare Alera darted in front of Bai Xuan, shielding him with her body.

Only then did Bai Xuan notice a strange aura swirling around Mare—an invisible barrier that made the wind blades dissolve the instant they touched her.

Some kind of… unseen shield?

With Bai Xuan safe, Mare Alera immediately launched her counterattack. “How dare you attack him! You’re finished!”

She pressed her hands together, taking a stance straight out of a shounen manga.

In a flash, a wild, crimson sphere of lightning gathered between her palms, crackling with destructive power.

“Perish, you insect!”

With that, Mare Alera hurled the lightning orb straight at the Three of Spades.

“What… what is this power?!”

The Three of Spades recoiled in horror, staggering back. She barely had time to react before the raging crimson lightning swallowed her whole—
