Chapter 275: Dekan's Conscience

Dekan was still a little wary of Clay.

This was the first time he had been teammates with Clay.

Recalling Clay's past battle records, Dekan could not help but feel a little scared.

He did not know if Clay was reliable or not.

After all, since they were matched together and were counting on him to carry, they could only treat a dead horse as a living one.

But Clay was ultimately a bishop of the Resurrection Church. Once they left the Shadow World, he would be their enemy.

He did not feel much guilt in screwing him over.

Because Clay could not see, during the tactical arrangement stage, Dekan, Cloix, and Morion had quickly exchanged glances and reached a consensus.

Better for me to wrong Clay than for Clay to wrong me.

Anyway, no matter what problem they encountered, Clay would be the first to be sacrificed.

If Clay died, they would just give up.

The worst case scenario would be failing the Shadow World mission, but their small team had to find a way to survive.

Thinking about it carefully, if they could kill a Rank 8 bishop, even if this Rank 7 Shadow World exploded, after they got out, their merits and demerits might cancel out, and they might even be rewarded.

Just as Dekan was preparing to further stimulate Clay's potential.

The entire ninth level fell silent in an instant.

A slash cut through the sky, as if it could pierce through the depths of this sunless prison. Dekan could only see a flash of light for an instant.

The lightning in Clay's hand seemed to have been shattered by this slash, turning into countless fine specks of lightning that dissipated in mid-air.

The Chief Warden had acted the moment Clay stepped out of the safe zone.

She raised her weapon, which was like a mix between a halberd and a staff, and charged towards Clay, swinging out a slash that sent Clay flying.

Although Clay had tried to block and even counterattack, in a direct confrontation of strength, even Clay was no match for the Warden.

Dekan's expression was extremely solemn. He understood the power of this blow. This was genuine Rank 9 strength. Even if the Falsehood Bishop or the Finality Bishop came, they would not be able to produce a normal attack of this level.

“BOOM!”

With a loud bang, Clay was knocked back like a comet, and only managed to stabilize himself after landing at the edge of the barrier.

He clutched his chest, which was already stained red.

Just in that one exchange, Clay had been cut by a huge wound. If he did not have 【Super-Speed Regeneration】, any other Rank 8 would have been seriously injured by now.

“It's a human… How did a prisoner get to this level?”

In the distance, a grim reaper-like figure, holding a weapon, walked towards Clay, muttering to herself with some confusion.

She exuded a terrifying aura, like a deity descending into the world from the darkness. Every step she took seemed to be a death knell for her enemies.

Logically speaking, only jailers should have reached this level, and they could not bring prisoners to the ninth level.

Because all prisoners would be detained on the eighth level.

Could it be that someone had defeated Karst of Illusion on the eighth level and then forcibly brought the prisoner down?

The Chief Warden could not figure it out for now, but no matter what, she decided to kill this dangerous prisoner first.

“Bastard! You just start fighting right away!”

Clay was fuming with anger now.

He had just been sold out by his teammates and then sneak-attacked by the Chief Warden.

It was a good thing it was him, Clay. Any other Rank 8 would not have been able to take it.

Then Clay began a 1v1 battle with the Chief Warden.

However.

Even when Clay used all his skills and maxed out his buffs.

He was no match for the Chief Warden at all.

He was being completely beaten one-sidedly.

And what made him most angry was.

There were three bastards behind him watching from inside the barrier.

Just watching.

But they would not come out no matter what.

“Master Clay, try to cut her mid-section!”

“Clay, quick, use a spell card to test her magic resistance!”

Dekan even started to command Clay, making Clay almost go into a blood rage.

“You three bastards! You won't come out until I'm beaten to death, is that it?!”

Clay roared in anger.

“What did you say?! I can't hear you!!”

Dekan continued to provoke Clay.

Because he found that after Clay's attack power increased, he seemed to finally be able to put some pressure on the Chief Warden.

Unfortunately, through the protective barrier, spells could not be cast out and would be blocked as well.

Otherwise, they would have just stood inside the barrier and supported Clay.

“You three! I'll remember this! When we get back to the real world, don't let me run into you!!!”

Although Clay was being a super scapegoat and a super punching bag.

He actually started to test the Chief Warden's magic resistance according to Dekan's instructions.

This surprised Dekan a little.

In his original prediction, Clay should not have listened to him in a state of extreme anger.

He had not expected Clay to want to win more than anyone else.

Surprisingly reliable.

Why couldn't Fahim have had such a teammate?

It was quite moving.

For Dekan's tactics, the Chief Warden's biggest threat was her magic resistance.

Many of Dekan's spells were decisive game-changers.

Once they were countered, the whole situation might collapse.

“Did you see clearly, you bastard?! Spells are ineffective against her!”

Clay used the 【Fireball】 that Dekan had given him beforehand, but the spell dissipated before it even touched the Chief Warden.

“Try using a few other area-of-effect spells!”

Dekan continued to instruct.

Clay gritted his teeth and desperately blocked the Chief Warden's pursuit.

He tried a few basic area-of-effect spells, but the spells dissipated before they could even harm the Chief Warden.

Dekan looked at the battlefield, stroking his chin in thought.

“This is a bit troublesome…”

Whether it was single-target or area-of-effect, targeted or not, it could not inflict magical effects or damage on the Chief Warden.

He already understood. The Chief Warden was an anti-mage.

It was not that she herself had a passive or talent for magic resistance.

But that as long as a spell was cast at the Chief Warden, she could cancel it.

“Try 【Toxic Ground Spikes】 again!”

Dekan commanded again.

Clay swallowed his anger and used 【Toxic Ground Spikes】 according to Dekan's instructions.

However, this time.

The Chief Warden was not able to cancel it in the first instance.

It took her more than ten seconds to successfully erase this spell.

“Clay! Try 【Toxic Ground Spikes】 one more time!”

Then Clay tried again.

But this time, 【Toxic Ground Spikes】 was instantly canceled just like 【Fireball】.

“I can't hold on anymore! If you don't want to win, just say so!!”

Clay's mentality was gradually collapsing.

This bastard succubus seemed to want to toy with him again.

He was constantly being dealt fatal injuries by the Chief Warden, and now most of his magic power had been consumed by 【Super-Speed Regeneration】. If this continued, he would surely die.

At this moment, the three of them, Dekan, finally left the barrier.

“Sorry to keep you waiting, Clay. I've already figured out the Chief Warden's mechanics.”

The Chief Warden could only erase spells she understood.

The more unfamiliar, the higher the quality and difficulty of the spell, the harder it was for her to erase it the first time she encountered it.

Although Dekan could have designed this wave to let Clay be beaten half to death by the Chief Warden on the premise of clearing the Shadow World, and then torture and interrogate him on the way out of the Demon Realm.

But Dekan now really felt a little reluctant to screw Clay over.

This guy was so stupid it was heartbreaking.
