Chapter 24. Lin Chu Had Never Been In Such A Hurry to Hang Up, Yan Beicheng's Presence Is So Overwhelming

Lin Chu blushed and was so nervous, she did not know where to place her hands. It felt awkward no matter where she placed them. She lowered her hands and stared straight at her knees. She could see Yan Beicheng start the car from the corner of her eyes. He looked so elegant as he shifted the gears with ease, his actions were casual yet refined.

The car went into silence. Lin Chu did not know what to say. She was someone who could not stand an awkwardly tensed atmosphere and was trying to figure out what to say in order to lighten up the tension. At that moment, the phone in her bag started ringing.

Lin Chu felt relieved but when she saw the name displayed on her phone, her feeling of relief dissipated.

It was Wang Jinglin, Cheng Ziming’s mother. She was not sure what was the right attitude to react in this situation.

She decided to answer the call, feeling slightly awkward yet trying her best to act as natural as possible at the same time. She greeted, “Auntie.”

“Dear Lin Chu.” Wang Jinglin’s voice was gentle like it would never be in an argument with anybody, even to the point of sounding a little timid.

This was exactly Lin Chu’s impression of Wang Jinglin all this while. She was a homemaker who mothered her child and took care of her husband, never going against any decision or opinion of her husband nor child. She was like a woman who kept herself in the back mansion during olden times.

“Auntie, is there anything I can help you with?” Lin Chu asked politely.

She peeked at Yan Beicheng’s direction from the corner of her eye.

“Lin Chu, just now… Are you okay? I’m so sorry regarding what happened between Yuwen and Ziming, I was really unaware of it. It wasn’t until Ziming brought Yuwen home to tell me that they were getting engaged that I found out about it. I actually… I have always thought of you as my daughter-in-law. All these while when Ziming was busy with his career, you sacrificed a lot for us, and I still remember everything that you did. I had not had the chance to talk to you, even during the engagement banquet, until I saw you just now. Don’t put Yuwen’s words to heart, you know her temperament. Ziming was the one who did wrong in this situation. I have already lectured him about it. He has wronged you, but he is now with Yuwen. As a mother, there really is nothing much I can say. After all, I do hope that my family can live in harmony. I don’t want to fight with my son every day and I don’t want to see my son fight with my daughter-in-law. Lin Chu, you… You understand what I’m trying to say, right?”

Lin Chu, of course, had never expected Wang Jinglin to stand up for her in front of Cheng Ziming, so she replied, “Auntie, don’t take this to heart, I have never blamed you. As for Cheng… Ziming, I have nothing to blame him for either. There are no rules in love that states one is not allowed to break-up.”

“Lin Chu, I know that you are in pain. This is Ziming’s fault. I only hope that it would not affect our relationship. I still like you very much and treat you like my own daughter,” Wang Jinglin said gently. After all, nothing could compare to Cheng Ziming’s future.

Lin Chu did not mind it much but felt lazy to deal with this further. “I know, auntie, you really don’t need to worry. I understand.”

“Sigh, you… You do understand, that’s good. Have you been busy lately?” Wang Jinglin asked.

Lin Chu had never been in such a hurry to hang up, Yan Beicheng’s presence was overwhelming at her side. Why did this car function so well? The car was silent, even that noise of the drive could not be heard.

Unfortunately, the sound from her phone happened to be loud and clear. Yan Beicheng must have overheard every word from Wang Jinglin.

“I’ve been busy recently. I’ve just joined a company and it’s an important time for me during my probation period,” Lin Chu casually gave an excuse.
