Chapter 2: Stage 1 Mage

The Mage Association had three floors.

It was also the landmark of this nameless border town.

When An Kai arrived, he entered the first floor with ease and followed the stairs to the second floor.

As soon as he entered, a cool feeling hit his face.

In this hot summer, it was even more comfortable than the air conditioning in his previous life.

Level 5 spell, Freeze.

An Kai recognized the spell of the Caster.

"Yo! An Kai, did you use the last bit of time to successfully comprehend the spell?"

Here, An Kai restrained some of his domineering aura when he was outside.

He nodded shyly, thanked the person, and walked towards the apprentice mage's room.

On the second floor, there were not many people. There were a total of 11 people.

They were all Stage 1 Mages. Some of them were only Stage 1, like An Kai, and some were Stage 5 Mages who had mastered Stage 5 spells.

Thinking of this, An Kai felt extremely melancholic.

This was because his level had been locked, and he could not level up. There was also another drawback. That was that he could not learn spells higher than Level 1.

Before the level cap was increased, he could only learn Stage 1 spells and the legendary levelless spells.

As he was feeling melancholic, he came to the door of a special room and cleared up his melancholic mood. This room was where apprentice mages were officialized to become noble mages.

He pushed open the door to the room. There was a rather old mage waiting inside.

"Eh? An Kai is here."

"Hello, Guild Leader!"

An Kai called out respectfully.

He was the guild leader of the town's Mage Association and the only 2nd Stage Mage!

An Kai had joined the Mage Association for a year, so the president was already familiar with him.

The president said softly, "Kid, show me your magic."

As soon as the president finished speaking, An Kai thought of something.

A fist-sized fireball appeared in his right hand.

The scorching temperature caused the originally cool room to heat up a little.

"Not bad! Not bad!

"Its power is around the second tier of the first stage. You've just condensed it, which means that your talent is not bad!"

The president was not stingy with his praise.

Upon hearing this, An Kai was about to release the Fireball Technique.

He looked around but couldn't find a suitable place.

Just as he was about to walk out of the room, he saw the old president tap his finger lightly, and a breeze blew past An Kai's palm.

When he looked again, the Fireball was blown away by the breeze.

The old president's expression was calm. He had no intention of explaining. Instead, he took out a golden nameplate from the hole in the table and threw it to An Kai.

" Rank 1 Mage!"

His long-cherished wish to become a full-time mage was completed just like that.

When he took the nameplate, he felt a cold feeling.

After doing all this, the old president leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, and began to rest.

Seeing this, An Kai thanked him and tactfully left the room.

As soon as he appeared, cheers rang out from the second floor.

"Our Mage Association has gained another 1st Rank Mage!"

"Good job, An Kai!"

"An Kai, you have to treat us tonight!"

.

The jeers came one after another. An Kai helplessly rummaged through his pants pockets and turned them out. They were cleaner than his face.

"Let me treat you? You guys pay."

"Hey! You brat!"

"I have no money! I only have one life." An Kai chuckled and rushed to the first floor without stopping.

Arriving on the first floor, An Kai's goal was clear. He went straight to the welfare centre.

Pushing the door open proudly, he slammed his nameplate on the table.

"Sister Wang! The money!"

"Yo! Did the little rascal become a noble mage?"

The person in charge of distributing the benefits was Widow Wang, Hanks' dream lover, who was purchasing all kinds of items outside the town.

Widow Wang's husband was a Level 1 mage, but he died due to an accident.

Out of sympathy, the old president took in Widow Wang and provided her with a job in the Mage Association.

Widow Wang was 30 years old, but because of her status in the Mage Association, she was still very attractive.

Hearing Widow Wang's teasing, An Kai chuckled. He did not refute it. After becoming a Rank-1 Mage, he could indeed be considered a powerful Mage in this border town.

Although Widow Wang was joking, her actions were not slow. She took out a low-grade Sorcerer's Stone the size of a fingernail and handed it to An Kai.

Putting away the Sorcerer's Stone, An Kai turned around and left.

When he reached the door, he suddenly thought of something and turned around. "Sister Wang, Hanks misses you so much that he can't sleep at night. You have to be careful and close the window before you sleep!"

Widow Wang placed her hands on her waist and said in a rather fierce manner, "He wouldn't dare!"

"You, on the other hand, do you want to come to my window?" Widow Wang teased An Kai without any hesitation.

Turning to the door, An Kai fled from Widow Wang's attack.

Hurriedly returning to his home in the northeast corner, An Kai was faced with two choices.

He had already exchanged the low-grade sorcerer's stones for skill points. What he needed to consider now was which skill to add the skill points to.

Meditation could provide him with attribute points, which was the foundation for him to become stronger after his level was locked.

The attribute points affected An Kai's physical fitness and the power of his spells.

The place An Kai was in was very dangerous. Even though his lifespan was unlimited, he did not become content. Instead, he kept thinking of ways to become stronger!

Although immortality could give him an unlimited lifespan, he could still die if he was injured!

In this border town, the most common situation An Kai saw every day was: Death!

Vengeance, accident, robbery.

There were all sorts of strange reasons for being killed, which made the people of this border town rather straightforward.

After all, they knew from a young age that few people would end up living well here.

Only a 2nd rank mage like the old president could live peacefully despite his old age.

If he added the skill points to fireball, it only brought about a small improvement in spells, not much.

Comparing the two sides, it was easy to make a choice.

An Kai decided to add it to meditation.

Right now, it could only provide one attribute point after about 30 days of meditation. It was too slow for An Kai!

[Meditation Lvl 1, Proficiency +1]

[Meditation Lvl 1-'2/10']

After adding the points, An Kai could clearly feel that his control over meditation had improved a little.

Compared to the past, he needed about 30 days to obtain one attribute point. At this moment, An Kai estimated that he would need about 26 days to obtain one attribute point.

In the room, An Kai smiled and chose to meditate to see the effect.

The next day.

An Kai opened his eyes. He hadn't slept for the entire night. He didn't feel sleepy even though he was meditating.

After washing up, An Kai ran towards the Mage Association.

As Widow Wang teased him, he took a new month's worth of low-grade sorcerer's stones.

After exchanging them for Skill Points, he added them to Meditation.

[Meditation Lvl 1-'3/10']

.

19 days later.

In the room, An Kai stood up and let out a long breath.

[Attribute Point +1]

The newly obtained attribute points were added to Stamina.

[Stamina: 4]

This was not An Kai randomly adding points, but his talent [Immortality] had an invisible requirement, which was to maintain balance.

Everyone in the comments saying the translation is shit, has never ventured deep into MTL. They do not understand how dark it truly is down there. The translation for this book is like being in a damp dark cavern for years and finally finding an area covered in luminescent moss. Sure it may not be the outside but from years of not seeing the sun for so long, this light is so bright it's basically sunshine to us ethsky

Idk I have read Mtl that is reminiscent of this, of course in MTL at some point the machine will go wild and forget the mc's name or rename every skill/spell on whim, but this is very comparable.

I agree. Once you have read MTL, you most likely will never complain about translation quality.

the meditation seems a bit arbitrary, from 1 to 2 it decreases by 4 days but from 2 to 3 it decreases by an additional 6 days (since one day passed). it's weird because it seems to have an exponential growth for a time based skill. for me each level should give either a flat decrease or a percentage decrease.

my reasoning is that a flat decrease can 1, be easily counted so that it could be summarised in an equation like [ base - (change X skill_points) = time_taken ]. in that example I would make the change equal 3 so the base would therefore equal 33, since you have to subtract 3 for the initial skill point too. this would make it so at max points invested the meditation would take 3 days. if the skill becomes lv.2 I would think the most reasonable thing would be to make it take 30 days again but give 2 points instead of 1, but that kinda of really sucks cause that means you are sacrificing the current efficiency for the future efficiency for the skill each time it levels up which gets less and less worth it each time. that's why i think if it includes skill evolutions/level ups the next type is better.

a percentage decrease would be better if we were thinking skill evolutions
    * because it would decrease the time taken by an equal amount relative to the time of the previous level. this means that a skill evo just needs to increase attribute points gained (like 2 for lv.2, 3 for lv.3, etc.) per session. in more mathematical term this is like [ x - 0.10x = y] where x = the initial time taken and y = new time taken. this means the skill points you invested aren't "wasted" each level up (although they allowed you to get the level up) but still have individual merit.

idk, I'm finding it quite hard to read but I had to nit-pick an element of the system.
    *not a spoiler

I would highly suggest you never read reincarnation of the strongest sword god. It's a fun novel but makes literally no sense. See: some players/NPCs can delete other players in game characters when they kill them.

Also, I agree with you here.

This book is the endless wheel of Samsara. The plot is EXACTLY the ordinary, repeating itself from chapter to chapter, and there is no logic at all...

The spell stages seem to relate to your actual levels, (so stage 5 is related to being level 5 proficiency in the spell).
      Mage class stage seems unrelated.
The reason the stage 1 for each match here is because getting stage 1 mage is literally learning a spell, which is stage 1 in the spell.

      stage. stage. stage. stage.
Also obviously this is my interpretation, might edit later if I igure out the truth

      Mage tier:
      - Tier 1 = apprentice mage (main character)
      - Tier 2 = local guild master (no title yet)
      - ...

Tier and stage mean the same thing, tier == stage

      Mage ranks:
      - Tier 1, rank 1 (main character)
      - Tier 2, rank 5
      - Tier 2, rank 1
      - ...

Tier 1 is implied when rank is mentioned without tier. Of course, one has to keep context in mind; just because the guild master is rank 1 doesn't mean he's tier 1 .

Mage ranks ≈ spell ranks, except level and rank are mostly separate from the mage's:
      - Tier 1, rank 1 (main character's fireball)
      - Tier 1, rank 3 (main character's meditation skill)
      - Tier 2, rank 1
      - ...

Level is an aggregate of both rank and tier, for example:
      - Level 12 = tier 2, rank 2
      - Level 0 = tier 1, rank 0
      - Level 30 = tier 3, rank 10 (level 0 is an exception)
      - Level 31 = tier 4, rank 1
      - ...

Remember, single-digit levels are equivalent to tier 1 ranks!

I'll update this every so often as I come across new information, this novel can be quite confusing.

Edit: read enough mtl and you'll get used to it hokage

      Updated: from chapter 43

Edit 2: I give up, after chap. 40 translation takes even more of a nosedive. It's gotten to the point I can recommend mtl without any doubt that it's a better reading experience. mtl has it's problems but they're more bearable than reading entire chapters with 'r' instead of 't', for example: The --> Rhe
