Chapter 385: Bee-Lightful Synergies |
Please select a cross-perk:
- Searing Light (Light/Fire)
- Bioluminescence (Light/Bee/Flower/Forest)
- Amplifying Water (Light/Water)
Since these perks all involved different gods, Belissar figured the Circle might have more to say. He looked over to Urubran as he read the first one.
Searing Light
- Fire mana may be added to Light-type attacks and abilities, increasing their damage and ability to burn and melt.
- Light-type attacks and abilities may set targets on fire.
Urubran smiled.
Belissar rubbed his chin.
“But I don’t have that many Fire-related perks? Except for that firestorm one…”
Urubran clicked his tongue and shook his head.
“Well now, that’s a terrible mistake as far as I’m concerned. But it’s never too late to start, Belissar! You’re going to build a Fire dragonvein room next, you know! You ARE building that one next, remember?”
Belissar gulped and nodded as Urubran gave him an intense glare. At least, until Tarawantrad stepped in front of him, hands on her hips.
“Urubran, stop trying to convince Belissar to set everything on fire!”
Urubran glared at her for a moment before he broke out into a smile and started to laugh. Tarwantrad shook her head, but had a smile too.
“Sorry Belissar, Urubran’s joking…mostly. He does really want you to make the Dragonvein Volcano next, though. But this Light/Fire perk wouldn’t affect it, it’d be more for the Light rooms if anything. So how about we check out the next one now?”
Belissar obliged.
Bioluminescence
- All organic beings may create Light mana at the cost of nutrition and add it to attacks and abilities. Organic beings that are already Light-type or bioluminescent receive a discount to the mana cost of all Light-type abilities instead.
- Light-type attacks and abilities used by organic beings receive a boost to effectiveness. Light-type attacks and abilities used by organic beings that are either Light-type, bioluminescent, or photosynthetic receive a further boost to the effectiveness.
Now it was Tarwantrad’s turn to smile, with her eyes sparkling.
“Now that’s a good perk!”
Belissar tended to agree.
“Wait, does this mean all the bees would be able to use Light mana?!”
Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author's consent. Report any sightings.
Tarwantrad grinned.
“Yes, Belissar. Yes it does. And you already have Light-type bees and photosynthetic flowers, so you’d benefit from the extra parts as well.”
Belissar and Tarwantrad both grinned and started giggling. Urubran shook his head.
“Nature masters.”
Tarwantrad stuck her tongue out at him while Belissar moved on to the final perk.
Amplifying Water
- Light-type abilities and attacks are no longer scattered or absorbed within water. They are instead concentrated and amplified, improving range, accuracy, and power.
- Water-type abilities and attacks further improve the range, accuracy, and power of Light-type abilities and attacks that pass through them.
Belissar turned to Nenavann for this one, as he couldn’t say he understood it. Nenavann gave him an understanding nod and started to explain.
“Water scatters light when it enters and absorbs light moving through it. Normally this makes Light-type abilities weaker underwater, reducing their range and accuracy. This perk reverses that weakness.”
Belissar slowly nodded.
“So…it’s for if I want to use Light bees in the Water rooms?”
Nenavann smiled.
“Exactly. It’s also useful if you want to combine Light and Water in other situations. If I were to create a barrier of Water to protect your Light bees, for example, any Light attacks they sent through the barrier would get stronger.”
Belissar could see the appeal of that…but he already knew what he wanted to pick. He turned to the bees and found they had already decided too, as the First of the Fifth’s First Daughter rapidly spun around in her report dance.
“All bees use light! All hive of hives gets stronger! Amazing, incredible!”
Belissar grinned.
“Sorry Nenavann, Urubran, but a perk that boosts all the bees is too good to give up.”
Nenavann chuckled.
“No need to apologize, Belissar. It is good for you to know what best suits your Tower.”
Urubran clicked his tongue and shook his head again, though he also had a smile on his face. He did refuse to look at Tarwantrad though, who had a very smug expression at the moment.
Bioluminescence selected!
Belissar laughed once more before he moved onto the next choice.
Please select a room feature:
- Sun Crystal (Rarity: Rare, Type: Light, Ground, Resource)
- Shining Yew Tree (Rarity: Rare, Type: Light, Nature, Resource)
- Mirror Dome (Rarity: Rare, Type: Light, Magic, Trap)
Two of the options were repeats, but Belissar didn’t mind. They were all rare and useful, so it was nice to have a second chance at them. Still, he started off reading the one new options.
Sun Crystal
Type: Light, Ground, Resource
Mana Upkeep: 30 (27 with Blessing of Light)
Description: A crystal that contains so much Light mana that it glows as bright as the sun. In addition to being a potent source of Light mana, sun crystals may be used to grow plants indoors or underground. The mana they put off can further nourish plants even when there is sufficient sunlight otherwise.
Belissar turned to Tarwantrad.
“That sounds useful.”
Tarwantrad smiled.
“It is. These are much sought after for making greenhouses. Well, it’s not as necessary for us dungeon masters since we can choose not to have seasons, but they would be great for trade. I would guess the sigmaka would love a few of these. On the other hand, though, you already have star core flowers, which are even better. You could use a star core flower seed to do the same thing and more.”
Belissar nodded, then read out the other two to remind everyone what they did.
Shining Yew Tree
Type: Light, Nature, Resource
Mana Upkeep: 20 (18 with Blessing of Light)
Description: A yew tree that has absorbed enough Light mana to become something more. The Light mana strengthens the yew tree as a whole, making it even stronger and yet more lightweight. Additionally, the Light mana has carved passages into the leaves and wood, perfect for absorbing and channeling mana. It is thus an excellent material for enchanted artifacts.
Mirror Dome
Type: Light, Magic, Trap
Mana Upkeep: 20 (18 with Blessing of Light)
Description: A partial dome of reflective surfaces surrounding an empty light crystal. The surfaces reflect and amplify light which the light crysal absorbs and then can use to perform light based attacks. Best utilized with Light spellcasters that can direct the attacks.
Afterwards, he turned to Tamosmed.
“What do you think? Would these sun crystals be useful? Or are the trees better, you said those are perfect for golems right?”
Tamosmed crossed his arms to think, grunting after a moment.
“I could find plenty of uses for either. Tarwantrad’s right, though, that sun crystals pale in comparison to star core flower seeds. It’s still beneficial to have them, but if it were up to me I’d probably prioritize the trees.”
But at that moment, Finnakynne flew into Belissar’s line of sight, raising her hand.
“Oh, oh! Beely! I have an idea!”
Belissar smiled at her. Finnakynne grinned.
“Listen to this, Beely! Those mirror domes absorb and amplify Light mana so Light mages can use it, right? Well, thanks to the perk you just picked, ALL of your bees can now use them!”
Belissar’s eyes widened.
“That…that’s right…”
Tarwantrad started rubbing her chin.
“Wait, not only that, you already have a Light-type dragonvein room and star core flowers. If you put one of those domes in the aurora forest, or put a star core flower seed in one…it’d have endless Light mana for your bees to use…”
Belissar began to grin. However, he glanced over to check with Tamosmed.
“That sounds great, but do you need either of the other two for golem stuff? Or do you know how to build a mirror dome without the option?”
Tamosmed sighed and shook his head.
“…I want those trees, but I can’t refute that those combinations would be exceptionally powerful. You’ll probably get trees and crystals like the other two from the aurora forest anyways, it’ll just take time for them to grow naturally. Besides, I wanted to focus more on metal golems than wood golems with your bees anyways, don’t know if a slime bee could work with wood in the first place. As for the mirror domes, I could probably build you something similar in time, but Light magic isn’t my specialty so I’d have to work it out first. That was always more of a silver elf thing to be honest. So…”
Tamosmed let out another deep sigh.
“…against all of my better judgement, I have to admit that Princess Finnakynne has a point.”
Finnakynne grinned and started flying towards Tamosmed’s face before she paused, frowned, and then cleared her throat, backing up to float by Belissar’s shoulder.
“Ahem, thank you, Tamosmed. I’m just trying my best to be a good bumble helper to Beely and his bees.”
Tamosmed stared at her for a moment before sighing once more. Belissar turned to the bees for the final check. This time, it was the Firstborn that was dancing on behalf of the hive of hives.
“Bumble helper’s ideas amazing, incredible!”
Belissar smiled at that and made his choice.
Mirror Dome now available!
