Addendum 6: Memorandum UR 670-1 [RESTRICTED] |
MEMORANDUM
Subject: Standardization of Dress and Appearance Reference: CAF Uniform Regulations 670-1 From: Office of the General, CAF High Command
I. INTRODUCTION
- As the Confederate Armed Forces continues its expansion in step with the swelling ranks of new enlistees and recruits across the member systems, the Office of the General has found cause to revise and standardize the uniform code presently in force.
- The Confederacy remains, as it has always been, a multicultural and multispecies polity. Accordingly, this revised code has been drafted to furnish all CAF personnel, irrespective of species, world of origin, or biological configuration, with a standardized and identifiable dress. The uniform shall continue to serve its traditional function as an institutional symbol of discipline, unit cohesion, and rank, binding the many worlds of the Confederacy under a single visible standard of service.
- This memorandum is issued for the information of all command-level officers and is to be disseminated downward through respective chains of command to all subordinate personnel without delay.
II. REQUIREMENT
- The Confederate Armed Forces remains, by virtue of the CAF Droid Army's continued service, an entirely volunteer force. No conscription law is enforced at the federal level, and service within the CAF is undertaken freely by all enlisted personnel.
- All humanoid enlisted personnel are required to wear the standardized CAF Service Uniform, designated informally as the "Long Greys", during all duty hours. This requirement extends to service aboard military installations, garrisons, and registered navy vessels, as well as attendance at public functions in an official capacity. Refer to Attachment 1 for a worn example.
- Non-humanoid enlisted personnel are required to indent their specific, customized uniforms through the Office of the Adjutant General. Personnel are advised that indents should be filed at the earliest opportunity following enlistment to avoid delay in issuance. Full procedure is detailed in CAF Uniform Regulations 670-1.
III. DISCRETION
- Personnel holding a cultural, religious, and/or biological aversion to the wearing of the CAF Service Uniform may lodge an appeal with the Office of the Adjutant General. Such appeals will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and alternative arrangements made in accordance with CAF Uniform Regulations 670-1.
- The Confederate Armed Forces is further supported by the countless local Planetary Defense Forces (PDFs) maintained across the Confederacy. PDF personnel are encouraged, but not required, to wear the CAF Service Uniform. As PDFs remain subject to their respective local administrations, local governments are permitted to design their own service uniforms for submission to, and approval by, the Office of the Adjutant General prior to issuance. Full procedure is detailed in CAF Uniform Regulations 670-1.
IV. ACCESSORIES
- All military personnel within the Confederacy, whether serving with the CAF proper or with a constituent PDF, remain subject to the CAF's unified military hierarchy in accordance to the Militia Act. To this end, all uniform designs adopted anywhere within the Confederacy must reserve dedicated space for the following two insignia:
a. Rank Plaque. To be worn upon the right shoulder, or biological equivalent, unless the wearer is biologically unable to do so. The CAF Rank Plaque is the standard-issue signifier of rank and additionally houses the bearer's identity documentation, security clearances, and biological data. Refer to Attachment 2 for a non-inclusive list of example ranks.

- One Unit Badge design is permitted per PDF, to be submitted to the Office of the Adjutant General for approval prior to issuance. PDF personnel are nonetheless permitted to wear their own local unit badges and accessories in addition to the approved PDF Unit Badge.
- Within the CAF proper, Unit Badges are mandated for: all Army formations of division size and greater; all Navy formations of fleet size and greater; and all Light Assault Craft (LAC) formations of wing size and greater. Where a Unit Badge has not yet been designed or approved for a given formation, personnel of that formation are required to wear the Unit Badge of their next-superior formation until such time as one is issued.
- Refer to Attachment 3 for a non-inclusive list of example unit badges. For regulations concerning other accessories such as but not limited to tabs, identifiers, and awards, please refer to CAF Uniform Regulations 670-1.
