Chapter 936: Comprehending the Thunder Rune [4/4] |
When he entered the Library Tower, he felt gazes on him, some were malicious. This made him think he would once again encounter difficulty in securing a Comprehension Room, but no such thing happened.
After waiting for half an hour, he was able to rent a room and enter.
Deciding not to think about what the Grimheart Faction might be playing at, he sat down cross-legged, closed his eyes and meditated for a short while to clear his mind and enter a focused state.
Following this, he took out the Memory Crystal, and injected his Bloodline Sense into it.
Immediately, he found that his connection to the Thunder Rune was stronger, probably because of his effort last night.
Happy with the progress, he focused all his mind and intent on the Rune.
Slowly, it grew clearer to his senses and he began to get a subtle feel, an understanding of its workings.
’This rune can not only be used offensively, but also defensively and...’
As his understanding of it grew, unbeknownst to him, the Thunder Traces in his bloodline began to flicker as if they were resonating with something and soon, traces of Thunder Law seeped out of the room’s walls and coalesced around him in a sphere.
Buzzztt~!
Swoosh!
Several eyes snapped open and stared at the room door buzzing with faint arcs of lightning.
"Oh no." The receptionist, a man this time, also noticed this and his expression changed. Without wasting any time, he took out his Identity Badge to contact the Elders in charge of the Library.
But before he could...
Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!
Five fingers had already appeared on the second floor and flew over to the Comprehension Room.
Seeing them, the receptionist hurried over with a ledger in hand.
"Which disciple is inside?" A middle-aged, single-monocled woman asked.
The receptionist hurriedly injected his Divine Sense into the ledger and said, "It-It’s a recently joined Inner Hall Disciple, Maxwell Garfield. High Elder Adam recommended him on... V-Violet Peak’s behalf. He is also a Tier 4 Talisman Master."
"Violet Peak? Now that’s troublesome." One of the Elders murmured with a troubled look on his face.
"How about we let him be? He isn’t really breaking any rules, after all." Another female Elder commented.
The other four stared at her, and the monocled Elder snorted, "If he exhausts the Thunder Laws, no other disciple will be able to comprehend any Thunder Elemental Spell here, and you think we should just... let me be?"
The Elder who had spoken earlier shrugged, "Do what you think is right then."
"How about..." The Elder who had the troubled look began before continuing through Divine Sense transmission, his eyes glinting, [How about we report this situation to the Violet Peak? If Grand Elder Rowan agrees to recharge the Thunder Laws, we’ll let him be.]
The other four’s eyes flashed when they heard this proposal, then quickly agreed.
[That’s a good idea. But we have to make sure no one, especially the Grimheart Faction, finds out about this. Otherwise they would think we are favoring the Violet Peak.] the monocled Elder warned.
[Let’s just take an oath.] someone suggested and the others agreed, though a bit reluctantly. After all, no one wanted to take oaths because they were shackles on one’s mentality or otherwise called Dao Heart.
After they finished taking the oaths, they reported the situation to Violet Peak’s representative—Elder Milo.
Their plan was simple. If Grand Elder Rowan, the most accomplished person of the Thunder Element and Law in the entirety of the Beast Emperor Hall, agreed to recharge comprehension rooms’ thunder Laws, not only they wouldn’t suffer any loss, they would make a profit because the laws had already weakened over the years.
And in the situation where Max wasn’t important enough to the Violet Peak and Grand Elder Rowan refused, they could just force open the room and stop Max. Then, they would explain the situation to him.
If he was a reasonable person, they could compensate him with some Merit Points or something else, if he wasn’t, they would just let him file the complaint and see what punishment they would get. Whatever it would be, it wouldn’t be more harmful to them than letting the comprehension rooms be emptied out of the Thunder Law.
But as they say, while the plans are always good, they—more often than not—fail to meet expectations when faced with reality.
Just as they had reported the situation...
Buzz!
Fwoosh!
The faint arcs of lightning flickering on the door fizzled out completely.
The five Elders stared blankly at the door before they exchanged glances between them.
[How did it get exhausted so quickly?] the Elder asked, a more troubled look appearing on his face. In fact, his expression was so bad that it looked as if he was about to cry.
No one answered him because they had none.
[I-It’s alright. I know Grand Elder Rowan values him quite a bit. He should since he faced Lord Grimheart for him. So, he wouldn’t refuse our proposal...] he said but his words didn’t have much belief backing them up.
...
Unaware of what was happening outside or even within the room, Max—his brows knitted tightly together in concentration—was completely focused on the Rune in the memory crystal which was rapidly disappearing and being imprinted in his mind.
When the last trace of the sphere of Thunder Law around him disappeared...
Crack!
An audible crack sounded. The memory crystal had cracked. A moment later, more cracks appeared on it and turned into dust in his hands.
Ha!
Max exhaled a long breath and opened his eyes, lightening flickered within his pupils, forming a lightning bolt shape.
It disappeared a moment later and looked down at the dust in his hands. His lips curled upwards into a satisfied and gleeful grin.
He had succeeded in completely comprehending the Rune. He had really comprehended it.
He had decided to put his all into comprehending it this time, but he wasn’t sure he could do it. After all, this Rune was among the better ones in the Tier 5 category. But he had done it and it felt amazing.
Of course, he knew he hadn’t done it all on his own.
He looked within him, at the Traces of Thunder Energy which were now a little bigger and seemed more... alive.
