Chapter 900: Unfathomable Target

Kyle entered the Fort without any issues, and his emblem immediately received coordinates.

Fort S-878 was mostly open space with a couple of buildings. Kyle could see a great number of groups charging in and out of the Fort. It looked about as busy as a beehive.

Kyle landed in front of a smaller man who wore a grey uniform. His aura felt similar to the auras of the other Shields, but more powerful and profound. His emblem marked him as a Commander.

This was his future boss, Commander Sirius Vult Meristo.

Sirius Vult Meristo was a powerful Spirit Lord. In fact, he felt even more powerful than the other two Spirit Lords he had seen. Yet, according to his orders, Kyle was not allowed to share his true identity or his true mission with him. He had to act like a regular member of Humanity.

“Black Sin Hammer 37, reporting for duty,” Kyle transmitted. There was no time for normal conversations. To keep efficiency high, everyone had to talk via voice transmission here.

The Commander scanned Kyle’s emblem for a moment.

“Accepted,” he transmitted like a machine. “Black Sin Hammer 37, your file states that your assigned kill count should be put at 50 times the standard. No matter if this is voluntary or not, Fort S-878 will follow this recommendation.”

“Here are your orders. You are ordered to start your Second Refinement immediately. During your Second Refinement, you are on Decimator duty. If you accept this order, swear the Decimator Oath. Refusal of this order will not come with any punishments, and your orders will be amended.”

Usually, refusing orders was not an option, but for the job of Decimator, this had to be an option.

“I accept my orders,” Kyle transmitted. “I solemnly swear that I have voluntarily decided to kill countless beasts of a lower Realm that have never attacked me or shown me any hostility. Humanity is not forcing me down this path. I chose this myself and will carry all the consequences.”

“Humanity thanks you for your sacrifice,” the Commander transmitted. “Your sacrifice will save thousands of lives.”

Then, the Commander took the time to respectfully salute Kyle for his sacrifice.

A Decimator’s duty was to kill as many Demons of a lower Realm as possible. Decimators were viewed almost as highly as Honerers.

The biggest reason why the stronger Seekers allowed the weaker Demons to pass through was Karmic Luck. Yes, this was a war, but even during a war, excessively killing beings in a lower Realm came with negative Karmic Luck.

This was especially bad here. After all, the Demons were all Divine Beasts. The punishment of killing a weaker Divine Beast was severe. Just one day of working as a Decimator would lead to the creation of a True Sin Aura.

Being a Decimator represented destroying one’s Karmic Luck to an irrecoverable degree, which also meant that one would be subject to Sin Flames for the remainder of one’s life.

The vast majority of people couldn’t live with Sin Flames. Because of that, they viewed the fates of Decimators as even worse than death. After all, a Decimator would continue suffering for their entire life.

Ayuvar was one of the very few worlds in which people with True Sin Auras were viewed as heroes instead of monsters.

“Report back after you’ve finished your Second Refinement. Good hunting!” the Commander transmitted.

Kyle nodded and pulled Energy out of the atmosphere. The Energy rushed into his head, and a moment later, he felt a burning pain. The Second Refinement had started.

For a Mortal, this pain would be unbearable. However, for a Sage, this pain was like a standard headache. It was definitely bearable, but one also had to remember that the Sage had to feel the pain for an entire century. This was not a sprint but a marathon. That was why some Sages failed the Second Refinement on their first attempt.

Yet, to Kyle, this pain barely made a difference. The overwhelming pain of his Sin Flames eclipsed the pain of the Second Refinement.

As long as Kyle kept pulling Energy into his mind, the Second Refinement would continue operating. Luckily, he didn’t need to focus on it. After just a single second, his instincts took over. If he wanted to stop the Second Refinement, he would need to give a conscious command to his instincts.

Then, Kyle flew out of Fort S-878.

He had already checked his emblem, which contained all the details of his orders. ‘I need to fly and/or teleport a billion kilometers to the north before flying two billion kilometers to the south before flying two billion kilometers to the north and so on. While doing so, I’m supposed to kill as many Demons as possible. Their Realm is irrelevant. A Sage Demon is worth just as much as a Transcendent Demon to a Decimator.’

When Kyle saw his assigned goal, he felt like he was in some kind of dream. The fact that he was supposed to do this didn’t feel real. It was difficult for him to believe that he would end that many lives, and it was even more difficult to believe that reaching this target wouldn’t even be that difficult.

‘Within one century, I’m supposed to kill 1.5 trillion Demons,’ Kyle thought. ‘This number is just unfathomably high, and yet, it’s actually realistic.’

Earth had an area of a bit over 500 million square kilometers, and it had a lot of life on it. This world was ten trillion times ten trillion kilometers big, which meant it had an area of about 100 septillion square kilometers. That was a one with 26 zeros. This meant Ayuvar was 200 quadrillion times bigger than Earth. This meant that it probably also had 200 quadrillion times more lifeforms than Earth.

There was a big gap between 1.5 trillion and 200 quadrillion. Additionally, the timeframe of the mission was not a single instant but an entire century.

There were a bit more than three billion seconds in a century. As long as he killed 500 Demons every second, he would reach that number.

Kyle’s Energy Sense covered a sphere with a radius of 25,000 kilometers. Within that area, there were bound to be more than 500 Demons, and even if there weren’t, he could still teleport several times in a second.

In order to kill a Transcendent or Primal Demon, Kyle would just need to create a tiny fireball beside them. As a Sage, conjuring 500 weak attacks every second was not very difficult. He wouldn’t even need to focus a lot.

Killing 1.5 trillion beasts felt unreal and unreasonable to Kyle. Yet, as he looked at the numbers, he realized that it was actually realistic and feasible.

As soon as he left the Fort, Kyle looked at his surroundings. Fort S-878 was pretty close to the eastern border of the frontlines, which meant the majority of battles were fought between Sages and Sage Demons. However, there were also a couple of battles between weaker Demons and some weaker teams.

Yet, even though there was a great number of battles, there was an even greater number of Primal and Crusher Beasts rushing past the individual battles.

These were Kyle’s targets.

Kyle targeted around 300 Primal Divine Beasts.

BOOOOM!

300 explosions happened simultaneously, but barely anyone noticed.

At the same time, Kyle saw a huge wave of red washing towards him.

Negative Karmic Luck.

‘Well, there go my chances of ever getting positive Karmic Luck again,’ Kyle thought. ‘The next century will probably cripple my Karmic Luck for all of eternity.’

‘Yeah, well, the Karmic Luck system is broken anyway. I am literally saving countless lives, and yet, I’m seen as an irredeemable sinner.’

‘This entire Cosmos is fucked.’

Then, Kyle teleported forward before destroying another 250 Primal Demons.

And again.

And again.

And again.

      901 Chapter 901 ~ Compression

Kyle teleported from place to place, killing wave after wave of Demons. He had seen a couple of Divine Beasts in the past, but after just a couple of teleportations, he became very familiar with them.

If these were just regular beasts, there wouldn't even be a war. For example, even though Kyle was only a First Refinement Sage, he could probably even kill Fifth Refinement Sage Beasts. A single talented New Ascendant could probably rival a powerful Ascendant Beast. A group of Ascendants could probably even take down a Peak Ascendant Beast.

Yet, the Demons were not beasts. They were Divine Beasts.

A Peak Sage Divine Beast was as powerful as a talented Unique Sage, and the worst part was that Divine Beasts didn't really have a lot of bottlenecks. As long as they kept surviving and battling, a Sage Divine Beast would eventually become a Peak Sage Divine Beast.

Meanwhile, only a tiny fraction of Sages ever became Unique Sages. This meant that there were far more Peak Sage Divine Beasts than there were Unique Sages because of that. Spirit Lords had to get involved and kill Peak Sage Divine Beasts, which put their Karmic Luck in jeopardy. Fortunately, the difference between a Peak Sage and a New Spirit Lord wasn't big, which meant these battles could still count as True Battles.

Yet, Peak Crusher Divine Beasts were an issue. Even the worst New Sage could kill a Peak Crusher Divine Beast with ease. This meant that several Sage Shields were basically forced to lower their Karmic Luck. The only way to mitigate this loss was to take turns.

After killing thousands of Primal Demons, Kyle got a feel for their power. He wanted to know how much Energy he needed to expend to just barely kill them.

'They're easier to kill than expected,' he thought. 'It's not that the Demons are weak. It's just that the difference between a Sage and a Crusher is humongous. I can probably also kill about 150 Crusher Divine Beasts.'

Kyle kept teleporting, killing one Demon after another.

Red bursts of negative Karmic Luck assaulted him continuously. Yet, as he continued, he also noticed several green lines.

Working a job almost always improved the lives of some people, even if it didn't seem like it. Someone who mindlessly assembled products might feel that their work had no meaning, but every part of a finished product was important. Without the parts the worker had attached to the product, the buyer wouldn't get the full product.

Sadly, it was hard for one to feel the impact since a lot of jobs didn't have direct contact with the customer. If an assembler could see the excited faces of the customers who had received their item, they might see their impact.

Kyle's job as a Decimator would be one of these jobs. He mindlessly went from place to place, killing faceless and unimportant Demons. The endless horde never stopped, and the intensity didn't decrease. One would feel like one was trying to stop a waterfall with a bucket.

Yet, the green Karmic Lines gave Kyle this affirmation. Waves of red clouded his Karmic Vision, but between the red waves, he saw a growing number of green lines.

He might not be able to see the people who benefited from his work, but thanks to his Karmic Vision, he could still see the positive impact he had on Humanity.

Sadly, the negative Karmic Luck he received outweighed the positive Karmic Luck by a factor of over 10,000.

After another teleportation, Kyle felt space manifesting, interrupting his next teleportation.

He looked to the side and saw a New Sage Demon. Most beasts couldn't lock down space since they didn't have access to Momentum, but there were also other ways to stop teleportation.

The New Sage Demon looked like a five-headed mantis. Each head had a neck with different lengths, which had extendable scythes growing out of them.

The Spirit Lord Demons were fought on the Z-range of Forts, while the majority of Sage Demons were fought between the U-Forts and the X-Forts. However, some still made it through.

Kyle's job was to kill as many Demons as possible. Getting involved with a New Sage Demon would not be worth it.

Sadly, that was not how battles worked. Battles didn't need the consent of both parties.

The Demon wanted to fight Kyle, and there wasn't much he could do about it.

Kyle took out his hammer as the Demon charged towards him.

The heads of the Demon expanded, and shining white metal appeared around its countless scythes. Based on the Energy around it, the Demon had Affinities for Light and Metal. Kyle had heard that the Divine Beasts in Ayuvar could create equipment, but this was apparently not one of them. After all, it had just conjured the armor.

The scythes elongated, cutting off all of Kyle's escape routes. Metallic spears shot out of the heads as they came closer.

Kyle's hammer turned black as a dim orange glow appeared around it. In the next moment, his hammer swung forward.

      BOOOM!

The hammer crashed against the fabric of reality, and a pulse of Energy spread outward.

The pulse diverted the spears' trajectory, and the speed of the heads slowed. This was one of Kyle's new techniques. It was the counterpart to Focus. While Focus concentrated an attack, this technique dispersed an attack. Because of that, Kyle called it Dispersal.

At the same time, the reality around Kyle warped. Yet, this was not the doing of his Momentum.

The Space, Time, and Gravity Energies moved in unison.

The space between Kyle's body and his opponent's attacks expanded.

The space between Kyle's hammer and his opponent's heads compressed.

      Kyle's time increased.

      His opponent's time decreased.

Kyle's body emitted a repelling force of negative gravity.

The intensity of gravity around Kyle's hammer multiplied manifold.

      Kyle swung his hammer again.

99% of the scythes didn't reach his body. The remaining scythes missed it.

The five heads of the Demon moved towards one spot, which rapidly approached the hammer.

      BOOOOM!

Kyle struck the gathered and spatially compressed heads with his hammer. A black hole appeared where the heads had just been.

The black hole dispersed almost immediately, and reality returned to normal. Since space was no longer distorted, one could now clearly see the heads of the Demon.

All five of them had been compressed into tiny spheres. Naturally, all the Biological Energy in them had been compressed to an unreasonable degree, and a moment later, the heads exploded into a wave of flesh and blood.

The Demon's corpse joined the Corpse Mountains.

If Kyle's former opponents could see the way he fought, they wouldn't recognize his fighting style. He still used a hammer, but the way he used it was completely different.

All of this was because of the growth Kyle had undergone after returning to the Hell Dimension. In the past, Kyle had hit his opponents with his hammer. Yet, in this fight, his hammer hadn't even touched his opponent, technically.

When his hammer had "hit" the five heads, it hadn't actually hit them. It had hit the reality around them. All of the Wind Energy, Fire Energy, Metal Energy, and physical power had been pushed into one point on the fabric of reality in the form of gravitational force. This created a short-lived but very intense gravitational field. This field was so powerful that it could even compress the five heads of the New Sage Demon.

Naturally, this was one of his new techniques, and he called it Compression.

At the moment, Compression was more powerful than Kyle's Imposing Law, but if he could advance his Law of Hammer's level, it would become stronger again. Kyle could have also killed the Demon with his Law of Hammer, but he wouldn't have been able to destroy all five heads at once. At most, he could've destroyed three with one strike.

However, this wasn't the only new power Kyle had used during the battle. After all, the prior distortion of reality wasn't part of the technique. In fact, it wasn't even part of his Law of Black Hole.

This was the doing of Kyle's Infused Soul Law.

902 Chapter 902 Infused Soul Law

An Infused Law of Body increased one's physical power while also giving the body properties of the Infused Law.

An Infused Law of Center increased the quality of the Energy in one's Center while also giving it the properties of the Infused Law.

An Infused Law of Mind increased one's thinking speed while also changing the way one's Momentum worked.

So, what did an Infused Law of Soul do?

The Soul was the Aspect of Power that sensed the surroundings and imposed one's will on them. This was very noticeable with Mortals. Mortals with an improved Soul could summon attacks from a distance.

An Infused Law of Soul pushed this power to the next level. The surroundings could be controlled as easily as one could control one's body. This created an area of influence that was under the control of the user. Based on the Laws that were infused, one could manipulate the related Energies of the surroundings.

In short, an Infused Law of Soul created a Domain.

Kyle's Infused Soul Law included several Fragments of the Laws of Space, Time, and Gravity. This meant that Kyle could control the Space, Time, and Gravity Energies in his Domain freely.

He could expand and compress space. He could put objects into stasis or connect different spots. He could speed up and slow down time, and he could also distort it. He could increase and weaken the gravity.

He could control the Specialized Gravity of different Elements, and he could also repel objects.

However, the Fragment-Fusion Law Kyle had made could also do that. What made the Infused Law of Soul different from that Law?

        One thing.

        It was free.

Kyle could keep using his Domain at maximum intensity for all of eternity, and he wouldn't lose any Energy. This increased Kyle's power significantly.

The inclusion of an Infused Soul Law fundamentally changed battles. When two Seekers with a Domain fought each other, they also tried to influence their surroundings. The more they controlled the surroundings, the greater their advantage became.

For example , a Seeker with a Fire Domain could transform the Energy in their Domain into Fire Energy and use that to cook their opponent. If they held the advantage, their opponent would keep losing Biological Energy as their body accumulated burns.

In general, Domains could be classified into three categories. Offensive Domains, Defensive Domains, and Supporting Domains.

Offensive Domains included Domains focusing on lightning or fire, for example. They would turn the surroundings into an attack.

Defensive Domains included Domains focusing on metal and earth, for example. They increased the density of their surroundings, making it harder to attack. Metaphorically, it was like punching underwater. It was simply much harder to unleash a destructive attack.

Supporting Domains included Domains focusing on light and darkness, for example. They strengthened the user or weakened the attacker, sometimes both.

Kyle's Domain was a Supporting Domain. His Domain couldn't even kill a Crusher by itself.

Yet, the last thing Kyle needed was even more offense. His choice of weapon, his Infused Body Law, his Infused Center Law, his Law of Black Hole, and his Law of Hammer already pushed his offensive capabilities to a ridiculous level.

He didn't need more power behind his attacks.

He needed more ways to hit his opponent.

His Domain perfectly filled this gap.

Usually, Kyle sped up his own time while slowing down the time of his enemy, giving him a speed advantage. He compressed the space between his opponent and his hammer, indirectly increasing the speed of his attack. He increased the gravity around his hammer, pulling the enemy towards it, which indirectly increased the speed of his attack yet again.

Together with his other powers, Kyle's Battle-Strength had reached ridiculous levels.

        For now.

In a way, one could say that Kyle had filled all of his slots, while his opponents still had two or three empty slots. With time, his opponents would also fill these slots with Laws. Infused Mind Laws became common amongst Fulfilled Sages and Spirit Lords, while Infused Soul Laws became common in the later levels of the Domain Realm. Imposing Laws also became common amongst Spirit Lords. In fact, all of these things were requirements to become an Ascendant. There were a lot of difficult things Spirit Lords needed to do to become Ascendants.

However, that was something for the future. For now, Kyle's Battle-Strength was almost unmatched. Only an outlier like Sebastian could rival or surpass him.

Kyle watched the Demon join the other corpses on the Corpse Mountain.

Demons had exceptionally high Battle-Strengths, but they still couldn't compare to Kyle. Killing this Demon would have probably required a team of five New Sage Shields with Refined Laws, but it hadn't been difficult for Kyle.

It was already surprising that Humanity would only need to send a team of five New Sages to kill a New Sage Demon. In the Supreme World, tens of New Sages would need to work together to kill one of these. The average power of Sages in Ayuvar was far higher than the average power of Sages in the Supreme World.

After looking at the corpse for a bit, Kyle teleported again to kill more Demons. At the same time, he looked at his hammer.

'I hope I did that correctly,' he thought, remembering Manny's instructions regarding creating a Refined Law.

According to him, one could create a Refined Law by including a Pure or External Complex Law in the Imposing Law. Of course, this was easier said than done. Kyle was already using his Complex Law together with his Law of Hammer. However, the difference between his usage of the two Laws and a Refined Law was akin to simultaneously throwing two individual stones and throwing one stone comprised of two stones.

The mass would be the same. The force would be the same. Yet, the effect was much stronger.

It was like taking two punches from a muscular man who weighed 60 kg versus taking one punch from a muscular man who weighed 120 kg.

'He said I need to combine my Law of Hammer and my Law of Black Hole in a deeper way. They must truly become one to count as a Refined Law, but I just don't know how I can actually do that.'

'Well, he also said that creating Refined Laws is easier for people who are more talented in the Soul and body. Apparently, it has to do a lot with feeling.'

'He advised me to fight a bunch of moderately powerful enemies while trying to improve the cooperation between my two Laws. That's also the main reason why I said that I wanted to fight a bunch.'

Kyle shrugged as another horde of Demons died under his attacks.

When he wanted to continue teleporting, he found space to be locked again, and he noticed another New Sage Demon.

'Well, that's why I'm here', he thought, readying his hammer.

The surroundings warped, and Kyle swung his hammer twice at the approaching enemy.

One more New Sage Demon joined the Corpse Mountain.

        Kyle's duty continued.

He killed wave after wave of Demons.

He occasionally fought a New Sage Demon.

He watched the green lines and red bursts to deepen his understanding of Karmic Luck.

He tried to fuse his Law of Black Hole and his Law of Hammer.

He kept putting more Energy into his mind to pass the Second Refinement.

'I don't remember the last time I was this busy.'

          A. You guys are being pedantic
          B. You need a law related to death to create death and the way the lord says to obtain the law is by quote “eradicating a world” thus you can only create death via minor death law (as of now).

What I was implying was that hopefully 1.5 trillion deaths would be equal to eradicating a world so that Kyle doesn’t have to do that but gets access to the minor law of death, but you nutsacks just need to sit on your high horse and get into specifics to act like you are smarter than you actually are. Well, then thank you for clarifying what you meant. I assumed you didn't know the details regarding the force known as Death.
What I was implying was that hopefully 1.5 trillion deaths would be equal to eradicating a world

I can see where you are coming from. It's not unlikely that Kyle will comprehen something through this entire ordeal. But my assumption is that it will either be a Law related to Karma, Yin-Biological energy or just simply nothing.

My personal theory is that the (Minor) Law of death requires quality instead of quantity to comprehend. In other words, "eradicating a world" is strictly necessary, because you need to look at, and comprehend how a "dead world" looks like, as opposed to just a lot of death.

Like I said. It's an assumption on my part, based on information and clues from this and previous novels.
