Chapter 366: You Win Some, You Lose Some

"Hey, you wanna see something else?" Kyle asked.

Theodor remained silent.

Since Theodor didn't answer, Kyle made something else.

He racked his brain real hard to reverse-engineer a shitty calculator.

Naturally, this wasn't the electric kind, and it definitely wasn't small.

It just worked by pulling a crank, which made balls move into places.

"Look, I put four balls here to symbolize a four-digit number. Then, I move the lever to multiplication and put four balls here. Then, I move the lever again."

The balls moved inside the machine and fell out in different holes at the bottom.

"Oh, I forgot to include an additional ball in case it creates another decimal. Just imagine there's a ninth ball that says one right here," Kyle said.

"Oh, I got another idea!" Kyle shouted as he got excited. "This is a favorite from my home country!"

Kyle created a long pipe made out of iron.

Then, he thought about how to make gunpowder.

"Fuck, I don't know how to make that. Well, I'll just make do with what I have," Kyle said.

He changed the back of the barrel a bit to make space for his finger.

Finally, he grabbed a ball of iron and put it into the barrel.

"Now, imagine there is gunpowder in there. You know, some kind of powder that immediately burns with a lot of explosive force," Kyle said.

Kyle put his finger in the other end of the barrel and used Boost.

BOOOM!

The ball shot out of the barrel with a loud bang and hit the wall.

However, the barrel itself also exploded into pieces since the force of Kyle's Boost was too much for it to handle.

"That's a gun," Kyle said. "We use that to kill people. Americans love it!"

Theodor didn't answer.

"Hmmm," Kyle hummed. "Do you guys know what radiation is?"

Silence.

"That is an unfamiliar word," Theodor said.

"Are there metals or funny rocks that make people super sick when they are in the same space as them?" Kyle asked.

"No," Theodor said. "I don't know of such materials."

"Really? Nothing?" Kyle asked. "Like, if you put a human in the same room as a specific rock, they wouldn't start puking or dying or something?"

"I don't know of such a mystical material," Theodor said.

Kyle snorted when he heard the word mystical.

"Yeah, well, I guess we don't have atoms here. Everything's made of Ether, and that doesn't decay, I guess. Well, can't reverse-engineer nuclear weapons with that."

"Woulda been fun, though. "

"Could you imagine if I managed to comprehend Uranium and could just make a nuke? That would be hilarious. If I sold that to the Skysand Kingdom, the Winterfire Kingdom wouldn't exist for much longer."

"That seems far-fetched," Theodor said.

"Hey, Boss," Kyle said with a smirk. "Can a Transcendent survive an explosion that's like fifty miles wide?"

Silence.

"Most likely not," Theodor said after some time.

"Then, there you go," Kyle said. "If I could make a nuke, we could get rid of the Winterfire Kingdom."

"Would be hilarious. You just make like a bunch of flying golems and send them over the Grand Ocean and watch the enemy give up."

"Bro!" Kyle suddenly said. "I should totally try to see if there's a nuclear weapons Fragment."

"Although, without atoms, that's gonna be hard. I would first have to somehow create atoms, and I certainly don't know enough about physics or chemistry to reverse-engineer those. Like, how the fuck do they even work?"

"Shoulda paid more attention in chemistry class."

"Wait! Magnetism exists, right? Railguns!"

"Ah, fuck. I forgot. I don't have a Lightning Affinity. That would've been the way to go."

"You're not making this up?" Theodor suddenly asked.

"No," Kyle said. "How could I even make this shit up? Dude, Lightning Affinities! If I had that, I would be able to do all sorts of crazy shit. Wonder how much power I could produce with lightning. How fast would a car go with that much power?"

"Like, one of Michael's Lightning Spells can turn a fucking human into powder. That's gotta be a lot of fucking power!"

"You've gotten sidetracked," Theodor said.

"Oh, yeah, sorry," Kyle said with a chuckle. "It's just that I have all of these ideas now."

"To get back to the topic," Theodor said, "you are not from this world. Some kind of powerful lady has transported you to this world, and you're supposed to become the Overseer, correct?"

"Yep," Kyle answered. "Based on what I heard, the Overseer is probably that one Duchess from the Twilight Duchy. I mean, Overseer sounds like somebody that oversees things, and since there's no qualifier in front of it, it probably means that it's just the Overseer of the world or something."

"No idea what I'm supposed to do, though. Although it's probably gonna be some genocidal and atrocious shit that will get me to the top of Big Karma's shitlist."

"Yeah, well, you win some, you lose some."

Theodor remained silent for a while. "You don't know what this mysterious company wants to do?" he asked.

"No idea," Kyle said.

"They didn't tell you?" Theodor asked.

"Dude, if they told their recruits, they probably wouldn't get half of them," Kyle answered.

"Recruits? As in plural?" Theodor asked.

"I mean, yeah. Magic Lady said that they made Earth to get the right people. I don't think they made all of Earth just for one Kyle. There are probably thousands or millions of Kyles that got transported to different worlds… I think."

Theodor remained silent for a while.

"Do you think they're related to the Cult of Final Fate?" he asked.

"Nah," Kyle answered. "The Cult has its own goals. As far as I know, they just wanna kill everything. Magic Lady probably just wants what everyone wants."

"Money."

"Maybe I'll have to make an ore pipeline or something to their homeworld. Maybe they want me to give them some involuntary volunteers to mine ore forever or something."

Theodor remained silent for a while.

"And you would be willing to do that?" he asked.

Kyle shrugged. "I signed the contract, and they will probably kill me if I refuse."

"And, well, I kinda don't want to die."

"Sucks for everybody else, though."

"Oh well, as I've said…"

"You win some, you lose some."

Kyle remained silent for a while as he furrowed his brows.

He remembered something.

"You know, in comparison…"

"Killing Hieronymus' lineage doesn't seem as bad anymore."

Silence.

"Wow, I became an asshole."

Kyle scratched the back of his head.

Then, he shrugged.

"Eh, not my problem."

In his previous novel the concept of ‘deterministic free will’ was discussed which might relate to this topic. It was determined that as long as you understand enough about biology and psychology you can perfectly predict every future action someone will take. An individual makes choices of their own free will, but they don’t get to choose the environment they are born into or their initial biological makeup.

Considering the recruiters created the earth they should have a perfect understanding of both his environment and his biology, meaning they can perfectly predict his future actions. They dropped him right on top of Theodor’s inheritance for a reason, because they thoroughly understood the world he was being placed into and chose the spot to place him where his his future choices would lead him toward success.

And example of Kyle can probably go my way too like what if they intended for Kyle to dig first then get easy first advancements and sandspeak language guide along with a strict boss that won't let him rest

But instead Kyle went on to fight a giant turtle camping and making friends in theodore's rest before remembering clues and trying his luck weeks later

It’s like a coin toss, to the average normal person the result is a random 50-50, but if you’re skilled enough you can use technique to slightly adjust that probability. For someone with superhuman mental and physical abilities they could easily determine the outcome of the flip in advance.

For someone as powerful as the recruiters maybe they placed him precisely where he needed to be placed to get the results they wanted, maybe if they placed him 10 meters away in any direction his death is a guaranteed result instead.

If I have to guess there might be tens of thousands applicants of sorts in all different sorts of magic worlds (and there might multiple earths maybe they don't have just this one farm of sorts)
And they give them all one special ability and a good starting location and then they don't bother after there are probably few people like magic lady who can transverse worlds not to mention for watching a single applicant
If i have to guess they probably have some sort of magic to record his journey that they will use to re-watch if he ever reached trancendence the highest level in this world otherwise they won't bother with mortals of course those who fail to become trancedents might have to pay some unknown terrifying price like soul by the contract they signed

And i would guess the contracts are actually from even higher level of person as it can probably passively work and enforce price accross unknown numbers of world

Now that I think about word enforce there might actually be enforcers for those who might by luck or ability manage to break free from contract

Anyway this multi versal company with some godly beings sitting at top for sure

Lmao Kyle is like the polar opposite of Nick
Its perfect. We had Gravis and Shang now we have Nick and Kyle. Perfect opposites 😂
Also is Kyle having character development or whatever is the opposite of it lmao. Either way I LIKE IT! 🔥

I think Kyle is overestimating the success rate of recruitment
I am not sure but i really doubt everyone reaches trancendence most if even reached second realm it's a accomplishment
But then again there has always been exceptional people

I wouldn't say that many more will be there
The real challenge from what we know is comprehending a law without law i don't think you can reach trancendence
And there might be some catch to like it was already tough to go from first to second realm

He might be overestimating it a bit, but at the same time apparently the entirety of earth was created purposefully for recruitment. So considering they aren’t picking at random, and the more powerful you are the greater your intelligence, and the possibility of them comprehending laws that can directly tell them the outcome beforehand (time, fate, etc), the success rate might be nearly 100% depending on their approach.

Maybe success rate is more than I thought but i doubt it's anywhere near 100 🤔
And fate sound too powerful to be true in that case
We have seen time and space laws in previous novels while they are strong they are not at that level where you can do godly crazy stuff

Something like affecting Cosmos or whole chain of them

Fate seems to be same level as death and luck

Honestly that was disturbing so i didn't read too closely
I like it when their is mystical aspect to things instead of all pragmatic and numbers
That's why I like Reverend Insanity the most the concept of dao marks attainments and very well defined mystical complex yet simple power system it can be be explained with one word:Dao
Back to topic it's different that knowing behavorial patterns of things while having large enough senses and powerful mind that can process it all (for example what if some stupid and mad person appears this is something you have constantly keep eye on even smallest changes affect future very much)
From a force that comples everything to move the way it does without it's will not even leaf can move no matter how much you want to change it only process change results doesn't
In my mind best novels that represent this concept are Lord of Mysteries and Reverend Insanity haven't read till the end but Shadow Slave probably does too

I really like Warmaiasc’s novels because they all have the same underlying rules that structure their reality. It makes it so that you can easily theorize various scenarios because you gain an understanding of what’s possible and how.

I won't lie i like the starting the most where mc is new to everything navigating through the world where everything is mysterious and so out of reach

Right now is probably my favourite period we are on steady path to power with Kyle becoming more stronger by day

And i have posted comments in 100s about this but his thoughts and view of power of higher and highest level is just depressing i almost thought it was worthless but when i lived my own tough life again then nah I was back to it fantasy element possibilities and excitements
The way warma views the highest level is different from there might be one or two people who are caught up in such thoughts but not everyone it's something from Soul of Negary that gave me words they are that strong because they don't want to die because they can enjoy life and their survival is their priority for they are people of great determination namely someone like lelyin from warlock in magus world or fang yuan let's forget about fang yuan, leylin's intentions are in line with me to rest and enjoy appropriately while not getting distracted on path of eternity to admire the beauty of the world to not to be worried or pressurized by anything in world to experience freedom (and he has 2-3 instances in novel where he spent years playing boss in a level while preparing for travelling next and continuing his path)

All in all author is a amazing writer whose every novel I'll read but there are some perspective on life and power in which our views don't match 🙏

I imagine it’s like in Sword God, there’s a lot of people sent to the other world but they’re only supposed to reach as far as the last guy and keep pushing the way forward for when the next guy comes. There were a ton of them but only Shang ever got lucky enough to not cripple his cultivation.
