Hirai’s Secret |
The following day at my part-time job, I left my house at the usual time and headed for the convenience store late at night. I was reasonably prepared to pass through the tunnel on the way there, but still in the same place as yesterday was the carcass of that cat, its intestines and organs dried out, and attracting multitudes of flies.
Even though it had only taken me a couple of seconds to stare directly at it and go beyond it, the dreadful odor of decay prickled my nostrils unrelentingly. As I had surmised, the decomposition would accelerate in no time at all if it was exposed to the summer sun in such a place. That being said, it was unlikely that anyone would bury it in the ground in a placelike this. In the first place, who would dispose of such a wrecked, dried-out, and hideous carcass?
Should I contact an animal welfare organization and ask them to do something about this situation… The cat being left alone was miserable, but seeing this every time I came and went was rather unbearable.
Nevertheless, there was nothing in particular that I could do about it…
Just to be sure, I looked behind me briefly, only to discover that the cat with the mottled patterned, ominous purr was not present.
