Chapter 21: ''Strip.'' |
Murmurs resounded in the village square as Jake pulled Yahul by his hair. With his other hand, he bought a small bottle of high-class healing potion and gulped it in one go.
Everyone who saw him stood dumbfounded. Some even started bowing and kneeling in fear as he looked at them. They could see that Jake's wounds were patching up extremely quickly. That was the combined effect of the potion and his regeneration skill.
As he walked out of the square, everyone made way for him. No one pointed out Yahul being dragged against the ground.
At this moment, Maise, who had run away earlier, bravely stood in front of Jake. Her father was beside her, holding an old sword. Her mother hadn't changed out of her apron. She had a spade in her hand. Simple villagers trying to save their son, how brave.
''NO! You all run! He isn't someone you can defeat!'' Yahul cried, spitting some blood out of his mouth. Of course, they didn't listen to him and continued blocking Jake's way.
They looked around for support and called those they knew. However, the village square was already more than half-empty. Nobody wanted to remain here and get caught up in this mess. When they were called, they all ran way faster instead. They had just witnessed Jake kill a person. Who's to say he wouldn't kill them?
''Kneel.'' Jake's voice was like two brittle iron bars grinding against each other. Cold and harsh. When he saw their persistent behavior, he just slapped Yahul's father away, knocking him out.
As for Maise and her mother, they were just putting up a front. Both of them quickly knelt when Jake actually hit, begging him to spare Yahul. Jake lifted them by their head and said deeply, ''Oh actually, there is a way for you to save him. If you do as I say, I promise to leave him alive.''
Hope bloomed in their frightened hearts as they heard him. He put them down and told them to walk forward. Behind him, Yahul felt like something really bad was going to happen. He looked at his father and felt a pang of pain. Glancing ahead with his blurry eyes, he could see his home.
So they came here. Was he going to take Elena away? Sparing his own life by giving her to him...? It was all Yahul's wishful thinking.
Inside the home, Jake stepped into the living room with Maise and Jenna, her mother. The girl inside who was helping Elena climb down suddenly shrieked as she saw them.
''Eh... hubby? Wha-'' Before Elena could finish her sentence, he dashed forward and knocked her out.
''Take her upstairs,'' Jake ordered and the girl beside fearfully nodded. Just what was happening here?
Jake was looking into her irises at this moment and seeing what was reflected, he stretched his hand back and pulled violently.
''Ugghh!'' Yahul crashed against a table and blood flowed out of his mouth.
''Where were you thinking of going?'' Jake turned around and cracked his knuckles. Behind him, the girl carried Elena upstairs as her body trembled. Who was he and why was he doing this?
''Yahul!''
Maise and Jenna went to help him. Seeing the blood spilled everywhere, they both felt dizzy. Just... just... yesterday it was his marriage, and now this.
''Johnny, why?!'' Maise started crying, holding her brother. This adventurer seemed friendly at first but this change didn't make sense to her. Yes, Yahul tried to fight him but wasn't this too much?
''Get away from him or I'll burn you three at the same time.'' A black fire appeared on Jake's fingertip again. This time, they didn't dare to take any chances and quickly obeyed.
Maise wiped her tears and asked, ''Wh-what do w-we need to...do to s-save him?''
''Strip.''
This single word caused both of them to take a step back. However, when they saw Jake grab Yahul's neck, hesitation appeared in their eyes.
At this moment, some people entered the house. Jake glanced at the open door and saw Rose and Vin here to resolve the situation. Behind them, Elena's parents were also there along with Maise's friends. Yahul's buddies didn't come.
''Johnny… I'm sure we can talk about this. There's no need to go this far…''
''Welcome, welcome! Looks like I'll unlock another sin for sure today.''
They didn't understand what he was saying. Still, they all tried to ''calm him down.'' Violence was never the answer, they thought. But today's answer was something different.
