Chapter 2835: Alternative Solution

Cassie slowly surfaced from the torrent of visions bestowed upon the Lord of Shadows by Weaver, the Demon of Fate. All around her, the vast vortex of glistening memories was spinning in the darkness with startling speed, their trails fusing into strings of silver light.

She strained her Will to keep the ocean of memories at bay, her entire being trembling from the pressure.

At the same time, the seeds of Corruption were slowly taking root in her soul.

‘Ah...’

There had been no concept of time in the dark ocean of memories before. However, now, there was — the spreading Corruption served as an axis that separated the past from the future, and therefore, Cassie's time was running out.

If she did not solve the mystery of her state before it was too late, she would become an abomination.

She would become Torment once again.

So, she needed to hurry.

Instantly composing herself, Cassie regarded the revolving galaxy of memories and identified the ones she needed to remember among the sea of glistening shards.

The tentacles of her Will shot forward with flawless agility, catching the fleeting memories as they flashed by.

She had almost pieced it all together — the start, the middle. Now, she only needed to know the end.

In the first of the remaining memories, the Lord of Shadows was brewing tea.

They recently returned to the Dream Realm, having spent an exhausting amount of time dealing with the immediate aftermath of the council at the Immortal Flame manor. The news of what Asterion had said was spreading across both worlds, and the foundation of the Human Domain was shaking. The situation looked grim.

Sunny was incredibly frustrated himself, but he knew that Nephis would be feeling worse. So, he brewed two cups of calming tea and brought them to the table.

Pushing a steaming cup toward Nephis, he studied her for a moment and asked:

"Are you angry?"

She looked at him with a stony expression.

"Why would I be angry?"

Sunny sat down and cradled his own cup in his hands, enjoying the subtle scent of tea.

"Because the Dreamspawn revealed the truth about your clan's downfall? There is nothing shameful about it, naturally, but no one likes to appear weak. And you dislike it more than anyone."

Nephis stared at him silently for a few moments. Eventually, she looked away and said in an even tone:

"I'm happy to appear weak as long as it benefits me. What's wrong with appearing weak? The weaker you look, the more likely the adversary is to underestimate you."

Sunny smiled faintly. That sounded suspiciously like something he would say, making him feel like he was rubbing off on her.

"I guess there is nothing wrong with it”

The revelation of how Broken Sword had died and how the Immortal Flame clan had fallen was not that harmful for the Longing Domain. Neither was the truth of how Nephis had schemed and deceived countless people to eliminate the Sovereigns. Asterion had not meant to harm the idea of Changing Star with these scandalous claims, to begin with. He had merely offered them as provocation. It was the last truth he revealed that served as the true attack — the truth of how Sunny and Nephis had been willing to risk numerous lives in order to bring down the King of Swords and the Queen of Worms.

That one... that one was bound to cause the idea of Changing Star, and therefore the resilience of the Longing Domain, actual damage.

Sunny took a sip of tea.

"He dealt us a painful blow."

Nephis remained silent for a while, then shrugged.

“I'm used to pain."

He sighed.

She reached for her cup and tasted the tea, then exhaled slowly.

"Thank you."

Nephis looked at Sunny and forced out a smile.

Then, she asked in a calmer tone:

"When is Cassie returning?"

An incarnation of Sunny was hiding in Cassie's shadow, so he was aware of where she was at all times. At the moment, she was in the government complex, talking to an Awakened... the man looked familiar, and from the form of his shadow, Sunny recognized him as one of the thralls Cassie had cured.

He kept a watchful eye on the former thrall, unsure if Asterion had reclaimed the man once more.

“Soon. She is..."

Sunny frowned, witnessing as Cassie pulled her blindfold down. Moments later, drops of blood fell on the floor, and his expression darkened.

“She is using her Transcendent Ability again."

Nephis grasped her cup tighter and drank from it.

Far away, in the waking world, Cassie wiped the blood off her face and slowly pulled the blindfold back up. The Awakened seemed dazed after experiencing her gaze, so she bid him farewell and walked away.

Entering an empty room, she glanced at her shadow and said quietly:

“Sunny. I want to return now."

Her voice sounded oddly distant.

As a Saint, Cassie could travel across the realm boundary herself. However, she could not take Sunny, who was hiding in her shadow, with her — that was because his soul was Supreme, and contained a vast legion of shades within itself on top of that. So, there was hardly a Transcendent in the world who could pull him to a different world.

Instead, Sunny emerged from Cassie's shadow, held her delicate shoulders, and transported both of them to the Ivory Island.

There, he sighed and manifested a black cloth from the transient shadows.

Raising it to her face, he carefully wiped off the blood smeared across it.

“I wish you would stop doing that."

Hearing him, Cassie lowered her head.

“It... was worth it, though."

A hesitant smile touched her lips.

“I think that I discovered a hint about how to deal with the Dreamspawn, Sunny."

He stared at her in confusion for a moment. Then, he silently pulled Cassie into the shadows and brought them both to the room where his other avatar was drinking tea with Nephis.

The avatar had already brewed the third cup.

Cassie gulped it down in one go and faced them with a subtle hint of nervousness.

"l left myself a message, a long time ago. But I only received it today."

Sunny raised an eyebrow.

Was that message similar to the one Cassie had sent herself in order to find him after the Tomb of Ariel? The message that had led her to the door of the Brilliant Emporium. She took a deep breath, and then said in a solemn tone:

"That message told me how to defeat the Dreamspawn."

Sunny and Nephis both stared at her, unconsciously holding their breaths.

Cassie remained silent for a few moments. Then, she coughed.

"It's just that..."

She paused briefly.

“It's just that I don't think I understand what it means."

Sunny and Nephis stared at her, then looked at each other.

"What is the message?"

Cassie leaned back, hesitating.

“It's a question and an answer. The question is: how does one defeat an idea that spreads like a plague? The answer... is oblivion."

Nephis frowned, visibly confused.

"I don't think that I know what it means, either."

Cassie sighed.

“There must be some significance to the answer. There is the obvious meaning, naturally — that the plague can be cured by erasing the victim's memories of knowing the Dreamspawn. I have already been doing just that, even if my personal abilities are not enough to make a real difference. Oblivion is also the title of one of the daemons... possibly there is a connection there? We should research it thoroughly..."

However, Sunny interrupted her.

“There is no need."

When Cassie and Nephis turned to him, he lingered for a moment and then said quietly:

"There is no need to research anything. Because I already know what that answer means."

It was the description of the Estuary Key, after all... of a Memory Sunny himself had created.

Or, rather, of a Memory created by the Mad Prince.

    This is cool and lit.
But it just makes me wonder, how fateless is Sunny?
We ve seen Weaver still manipulates Sunny's lives even after becoming fateless. Acceptable, he s Weaver after all.
And now you re saying Cassie, Ascended version of Cassie at best. Manage to predict the future after tapestry of fate in shambles and somehow included Mad Prince and fateless Sunny into equation. Like how? How is that even possible?

We already knew sunny was eventually going back to the piramid, the supreme shadow is right there, reading the old chapters again, cassie is much smarter than she seems, her last speech could very well reference she knew everything already and erased her memories before finishing the third nightmare

Weaver can sort of directly manipulate Sunny via Bluetooth through Fated. When he became Fateless he lost that Bluetooth connection but that doesn't mean he still can't be manipulated.

Think of this like chess. Sunny as fated is Weaver's Queen that he could move however he likes directly. However when he lost his fate he was no longer under his direct control. In this example, Sunny became the Queen on the other side. Weaver could move the pieces on his side to force the other Queen to take a step back or move forward etc.

When Sunny became Fateless, Weaver manipulated everyone and everything else around Sunny that could or had an impact on him, thereby still manipulating him. Perfect example is the Puppeteer Moth and the VTB. Cassie is also following along the same path.

It's a method of manipulation. To manipulate someone it would be sometimes easier to manipulate those around them.

exactly. instead of manipulating sunny directly into doing his bidding, weaver instead manipulates him indirectly by manipulating everything else, leaving nothing but the desired path for sunny to walk, the same one he'd have led sunny onto without fateless existing

When weaver lost the Bluetooth connection he immediately switched to WiFi.

How come you know the steps for manipulation? Is this something you often do regularly that's why you're so familiar?

I get what ur saying, and I can accept Weaver manipulates everything else.
But with the same way, same presicion, Ascended Cassie can do the same? She lacked both information and strength to manipulate both fate and matters that fate affected. She can't even manage to change the vision she saw.

Obviously the difference between Cassie and Weaver is like Heaven and Earth. Cassie was manipulating events and people at her level with so much finesse and deceit because she wasn't that powerful. She wasn't able to truly manipulate the powerful and only could give suggestions and ideas. Weaver is one of the most powerful there was and every action he did was monumental and shrouded in mystery. Like directly trapping the Puppeteer Moth for Sunny or letting the VTB rip off his eye to one day give it to Sunny etc.

It maybe that all the visions Cassie received was possibly due to Weaver and perhaps it wasn't truly Cassie's feat of breaking fate but Weaver's through Cassie. It's all a mystery bond

Asterion was likely to be an issue in the version of the future where he wasn't fateless as well. But she knew she would break fate, maybe some of what it would have looked like with fate, and she knows herself. I think that's honestly enough. She just needs to know Asterion's general deal, and then mumble some cryptic stuff to people and then making herself forget she did it.

Cassie was more powerful Torment for a while, and she had access to knowledge about what will happen in the future, if Sunny still had his Fate. Fated attribute means that the fated will do certain things in life no matter what.

All of it is basically the Golden Path from Dune. Leto II forced creation of humans with free will, and with impossibility to predict their actions. No future(or present) predictions would work on them. Normally only a very few people had free will and could affect outcome of pivotal moments, but not the ultimate destination(bad things). And he forced all of humanity to have this ability, making all predictions impossible.

I assume that Weaver wanted to prevent the ultimate outcome of everything falling into corruption, so he helped to destroy Fate, so outcome would be uncertain instead. And even when Fate is destroyed, both he and Cassie knew what would happen if it was not destroyed, so they could use simple logic and best case assumptions to still set up for future events. Cassie is even in better position, since she has access to present information, and to false prophesy information, which makes it easier to compare.

Sunny needs to create another Estuary Key or something similar. I did some research and attached what I found below:

    Estuary Key
Supreme Memory of the Sixth Tier
    Description of its Weave:
The weave of the Estuary Key had no light, and every string of its vast and intricate tapestry was black, as if created out of shadow essence.

In case people forgot (like me) here's what it does pulled from Chapter 1488.

Had Sunny been the first of the Six Plagues, and the one who had infected the other five?

    In any case…

'So why do I not remember anything? If my version from the previous cycle was corrupted by the Defilement, why is my soul free of it?'

He flinched. Wasn't the answer obvious?

What could cure the infection of cursed knowledge?

…Oblivion could. In order to be cured, he had to forget the cursed knowledge before returning to the past.
    ...
Sunny took a deep breath as the truth of the Estuary Key finally revealed itself.

So the memory, Estuary Key would erase his memories every time the loop started ? I forgot it's function except for the fact that it prevents the Sword Specter from Corrupting him.

I mean it's a bit of a glaze to assume good guy sunny is better than a version of himself who had even longer.
But sunny does have more of weavers lineage so that's probably a huge buff.

Modret is crazy and a psychopath, and he's a beasts... Nephis is also special, and she's a supreme( one of the strongest)... asteroid( Asterion) is not right in the head also, and he's a problem.

The true Sunny won’t meet his seed counterpart just from entering the ToA, the seed version and the one in reality are two separate spaces. Sunny goes into the ToA with the knowledge of what’s transpired in the seed version and his memories beyond that.

Yes, they are separate. That’s how Sunny has two Slovains, what happens in the Seed does not effect reality because the Seeds themselves are just a snapshot in time. What makes the ToA Seed different is that it's past, present and future are all there at the same time. So when someone enters the ToA legitimately it’s also transferred to the Seed, but this never works in reverse. Darion went in legitimately (not through a Seed) so there would be a version of himself in the Seed of Corruption that could help his people when they all challenged it together.

So sunny just need to create estuary key but instead of sin of solace, he just needs to put asteron's name in it. So the name Asteron is Oblivious

But how to make the estuary key is only known to mad prince, as only he knows it's intricate pattern of strings

Oh! I forgot about the memory tier of estuary key

    Copy pasta from the wiki:

Key of the Estuary is a Supreme Memory of the Sixth Tier that appeared in Sunny soul out of nowhere.

    Description
A jagged piece of cold black stone, resembling the building blocks of the Tomb of Ariel. It had no features, runes, or images, and appeared like a rough, palm-sized chunk of stone randomly picked from the ground.

    Function
The Memory functioned passively, even without being summoned.

    Runes
    Memory Rank: Supreme.
    Memory Tier: VI.
Memory Description: [The answer is oblivion.]
    Memory Enchantments: [???].

    [???]
    Enchantment Description: [???].

    Weave
The weave of the Estuary Key had no light, and every string of its vast and intricate tapestry was black, as if created out of shadow essence.

In Chapter 1350, it was revealed that the name of Sin of Solace was intricately woven into the enchantment of the Estuary Key.

    Enchantment
The Key of the Estuary contains a passive enchantment that was related to the Sin of Solace. An enchantment that consisted of two parts — one directed outward, one directed inward.

    Trivia
The [Key of Estuary] suddenly appeared in Sunny's list of memories without his knowledge.
The Estuary Key looked very similar to the black stone in the hidden chamber of Aletheia's Tower.

That's incredible, it's like remembering Cassie's conversation with Sunny before the estuary, she told him to stay with them, looking at it now with more context, maybe (almost certainly) she was talking about after the Nightmare, when he left, it's almost as if past Cassie is telling present Sunny "it's time to come back to us"
