Chapter 2710: Growing Threat

Even weakened, the Flesh of Kanakht was fearsome.

It was enormous. Its power was like a natural calamity. Its vitality seemed boundless, and its Will was like a vast ocean, reshaping the world around the Great Titan to excuse its existence.

Worse than that, its grotesque body was infinitely malleable, mutating at a startling speed to answer the demands of combat. That made the monstrous Nightmare Creature utterly unpredictable, and therefore countless times more perilous.

But worst of all was the fact that the Flesh of Kanakht could grow. It infected any living being — or a semblance of a living being — it could reach, then made them a part of itself.

‘I can't let it touch me.'

After witnessing the fate of his Shell, Sunny felt quite disturbed. He was not at all confident that his body would be able to resist the Flesh of Kanakht, even if it had been altered by Weaver's lineage.

And since it seemed that even manifested shadows could become hosts to the parasitic Titan — at least if the form they were manifested into resembled living beings — he could not be sure that abandoning human flesh in favor of his natural form would be of any use, either.

‘How do I kill something that I cannot touch?’

For now, Sunny chose to continue with his original strategy and attack the shadow of the Great Titan instead of targeting its body, aiming to destroy the Nightmare Creature’s soul. Nephis and Sunny clashed with the Flesh of Kanakht, causing the entire world to ripple and quake. The fury of the forces they unleashed was so terrifying that the Palace Island started crumbling into the water, while the water itself boiled and seethed in a turbulent chaos of towering waves.

The echoes of their terrifying battle washed over the wraiths and the shadows, forcing many to halt. They even reached the Ivory Island, making its chains rattle and the trees growing on its heavenly surface sway. Nephis unleashed torrents of incinerating flame and rays of annihilating light, burning and severing the body of the Great Titan. Sunny continued to pursue its shadow, delivering one strike after another. They worked together naturally and seamlessly, without the need to use any words...

Not that it did them any good. Cohesion and cooperation were vital in battle, but when the enemy could mutate in any kind of way at any given moment, there were no vulnerabilities left for them to help each other exploit.

No matter the timing of their attacks or the direction, the Flesh of Kanakht could always respond to them with dreadful effectiveness. And even if they did manage to deliver it grievous wounds, those wounds were simply mended without leaving any trace behind. The Great Titan itself, meanwhile, was overwhelmingly powerful, and every one of its terrifying attacks threatened to destroy them.

Well... maybe not. Sunny had seven incarnations, after all, so he would lose a few parts of himself at best if one of the attacks landed. Nephis, meanwhile, could heal herself endlessly. Neither of them even knew if it was possible to kill her, let alone if the Flesh of Kanakht could.

But despite their tenacity, they were at a disadvantage in this battle. Because, unlike the Great Titan, they had something to protect.

They needed to protect the Ivory Island, as well as their companions — Jet, Cassie, and Naeve. Most of all, Sunny needed to keep the Flesh of Kanakht away from his last incarnation and Nightwalker, since the process of reuniting his shadow with him could not be interrupted.

So, they pushed the Great Titan back into the lake and continued the fight in the shallows.

It was then that Nephis finally failed to dodge an attack.

The tendrils growing from the immense body of the Flesh of Kanakht caught her as she was preparing to unleash a conflagration of soul flame. She was a spirit made of light, at the moment — a being made entirely from flame, which made it so there was no flesh for the Titan to infect. However, the tide of red flesh enveloped her, still.

And then, something truly disturbing happened.

There was no body for the Flesh of Kanakht to infect and control... so, it created a body. The tendrils of flesh enveloping Nephis slowly assumed a twisted, deformed semblance of her own figure around the radiant spirit... imprisoning her within a cage of bleeding flesh.

It was not a mere physical barrier, either. When the Flesh of Kanakht grew a body for Nephis, that revolting shell actually became her body. And since she possessed a body now, the Titan could infect her.

Another terrifying explosion shook the world, and Nephis escaped the body that was forced upon her mind and soul in a whirlwind of flame.

She seemed a bit disturbed, though.

[Nothing is working.]

Cassie relayed their messages, allowing them to speak with each other.

[Physical attacks have no effect. It is too big to be turned to ash, and any burns I leave on its body disappear without a trace.]

[Its soul is unimaginably resilient, as well.]

That was what it felt like to fight a Titan. That being... it seemed endless, inexhaustible. Impossible to destroy.

Sunny was starting to feel a bit of apprehension.

[So what the hell do we do?]

They could even stall for time, really, because the Flesh of Kanakht was too powerful.

Even Death Will was having no effect.

[I...]

Nephis remained silent for a few seconds before relaying the rest of her message to Cassie.

[I am not sure. We need to keep attacking it, gather information, and then come up with something that will work.]

If there was something that could work. Sunny gritted his teeth.

‘If only..."

And at that moment, a familiar voice suddenly resounded in his ears.

It was a familiar voice — of course it was. After all, it belonged to Sunny himself.

It was the voice of the Handy Bracelet.

It said:

[You Shadow has evolved.]

En resumidas cuentas, una criatura de pesadilla se beneficia más de la clase que los poseedores de los aspectos divinos no? El único beneficio que obtienen es más esencia y "vidas extra" jajaja. En cambio las criaturas obtienen habilidades.

Good chap. Sunny and Nephis are very physical fighters so I can see why they would struggle against the flesh of an immortal being. They need something like nightmare to attack it metaphysically.

It's a good battle but I assumed that Serpent's death will along with suppressing of the will of more powerful beings along with Sunny's will that's enhanced by his charm wouldn't face such problem. They are both supreme titans so shouldn't serpent be supressing the flesh's will. Its still a good fight and I like the concept with what the titan is fighting with

Maybe it's the difference of experience? Or great beings unleashing will full blown instead of precise cuts and strokes of sword like neph and sunny do? Not sure tho

Yes this is great part of storytelling, author can do anything even undermine everything he setup to convince you otherwise, a nameless sleeper suddenly walked up to sunny and killing all his shadows and sucked up nephis then proceeded to slay aster on the moon then killed dream god afterwards he proceeds killing all life in waking world and dream realm before finally commits suicide.
Newbee aspect - absorb aspect and rank of all he kills
      Newbee flaw - can't stop
      The end.

Nephis unleashed torrents of incinerating flame and rays of annihilating light, burning and severing the body of the Great Titan. Sunny continued to pursue its shadow, delivering one strike after another.

Waitaminute, holdup, i thought kanakht had no shadow taken by shadowgod??!??

So it's confirmed kanakht who lost shadow and flesh of kanakht with shadow are different, but why wasnt FOKs shadow not absorbed by that star that trapps all shadows inside eternal? FOK has been trapped in EC since Dareon sealed it inside. Even if Flesh of K got it's own shadow, that shadow would've been taken by eternal along with the shadow of the immortals.
But that was alright. Delivering a powerful blow was not the main purpose of her maneuver, anyway — the real purpose was simply to get behind the Flesh of Kanakht. Because now that Nephis was behind it, her blinding radiance cast the Titan's shadow onto the Palace Island.

Also, sunnny already faught with infinity worm it's more fleshy than this higher rank though not a titan right? So a great titan is more powerful than a cursed beast?

Gotcha, it's not kanakht, but flesh of kanakht, so why is the great titan so much stronger than the cursed beast infinity worm sunny faught alone? Thats 4 supreme titan incarnations with curse artifact multiplier plus nemphis if my count is correct, 1 is stitching up NW.
          7
Wait a minute, hold up, flesh of kanakht has been in eternal for a long time. It's been there with Nightwalker. It was sealed in by Dareon. Why wasnt it's shadow absorbed along with the other immortals? It still shouldn't have any shadow.

Sunny was being amped by the ash domain of the game, which increased his physical stats while reducing the enemy. Also, him and neph can’t just obliterate the area otherwise all of his allies would die. Its not that they absolutely can’t kill this creature, its just they can’t do it without killing everything in their proximity.

Ash domain came from the game of a Daemon, that was then further influenced by Weaver in preparation of his successor. I don’t think Sunny’s own multipliers can compare tbh.

Do the math. Sunny1xAsh vs (sunny)*4*curse artifact.
No matter how high percentage ash is even if it can double the power it'll still be no match for 4x(sunny)*curse.
It can only equal to 2x sunny at most.

Kanakht himself got his shadow stripped from him by Shadow god. Now, because he was immortal, he was divided into different pieces by his own people and probably a Daemon too.

Now, over the years, each piece got corrupted by the Void. The pieces can cast a shadow but the main body cannot do it.

As for Sunny killing Abundance, that's because the rules of Ariel's game nerfed the NC. A Great Titan is no match for a corrupted deity.

I've always wondered how ki song was able to survive Ariel's chess game.

So why was flesh of kanakht the nightmare creature's shadow not absorbed into the star that traps shadows like the other immortals? Its been there even before Dareon sealed it in right? If it had a shadow before, it shouldn't have one now.

You must die before your shadow can be intercepted. Repose spells only intercept and trap shadows that would otherwise go directly to the shadow realm after death.

Flesh of K must've died many times before it was able to conquer all immortals in eternal. Unless they just gave up and let FOK takeover everything when he first arrived.

No, Kanakht's flesh was never killed. That's why his shadow wasn't absorbed.
And as for the Infinity Worm, it's not that a Greater Titan is more powerful than a cursed beast. It all depends on the aspect. With the right aspect, even a superior tyrant can defeat a cursed beast.

Umm, I would say that may be partially true, but not fully. When Sunny gained his 2nd shadow he basically checked himself to see if he had subconsciously wrapped his shadow around himself. So his base physical abilities almost doubled in base and octoupled when he was augmented.
Not sure how that applies to things like Will, and it surely depletes essence faster but his incarnations are individually more powerful than the average supreme.
