Chapter 2558: Mirror Domain

Mordret's laughter echoed above the wasteland.

Then, it suddenly turned into a haunting, deafening roar — that was because the millions of vessels behind him all laughed, as well. That scene was so otherworldly eerie that Sunny could not help but grimace.

"Cut the theatrics, will you?"

Mordret chuckled once more, then looked at them with a faint smile. The sea of motionless figures behind him grew still, as well.

Nephis shook her head.

"Saying that you don't need anything from us is a bit of an exaggeration, isn't it?"

She looked behind him, at the horde of vessels — some of them human, some of them monstrous. Among the humans, there were a number Awakened, but most of them were mundane: they were the ordinary citizens of the Eastem Quadrant taken by the Skinwalker in the past, only for their bodies to be stolen by Mordret in the end.

"If nothing else, you will need a place to settle. Now that these vessels belong to you, they will be banished from the waking world before too long... and every area of the Dream Realm that is not a Death Zone currently belongs to us. So, unless you want this sea of vessels to tum into a shallow pond, you will have to find a place for them to live."

Mordret let out a wistful sigh.

"A place to call home, is it? What a wonderful sentiment. Why, this is indeed something I would not refuse... so, how about you give me the Stormsea?" Nephis tilted her head a little.

"Out of the question."

It was indeed impossible for them to surrender the Stormsea to Mordret. Not only because there were two dozen Citadels there... almost half of them conquered by Mordret while impersonating the elders of the House of Night... but it was also the connective tissue between the former territories of the Song and Sword Domains.

Except for the Road of Shadow far north, in Godgrave, it was the only way to travel between the two parts of the Human Domain — unless one made use of a Dream Gate opened by a Supreme who ruled Night Garden.

Mordret sighed.

"How disappointing... and after I spent so much effort conquering those Citadels, no less."

He shook his head, then smiled.

"You seem to think that you have the upper hand in these negotiations, Changing Star, but let me remind you of something. In truth, I don't really need a region of the Dream Realm to settle my vessels. So, you have nothing to offer me. Your hand is empty."

Nephis frowned and studied him for a few moments.

"The Mirror Realm."

Mordret chuckled.

"Indeed. You do remember, after all."

In fact, Sunny remembered too. It was just that neither Mordret nor Nephis remembered that he had been there with them, as well.

It had happened back in Twilight, when Mordret pulled them into Soul Stealer's Mirror Realm. His own only encompassed the reflection of his Soul Sea at the time, but the minor Mirror Domain of Soul Stealer encompassed the reflection of the entire city.

Now that Mordret was Supreme and his Domain had fully manifested, there was no telling how vast and lifelike his Mirror Realm was.

Vast enough for millions of vessels to inhabit, perhaps.

'I'll be damned."

Mordret was not just a one-man nation. He seemed to be carrying an entire kingdom within himself, as well.

And every mirror could become a door to that kingdom — a door that only he could open.

Nephis shook her head.

"Most of your vessels are fragile and mundane. They will need to be fed, sheltered, clothed, and cared for. Even if you have a space to store them, you won't have the resources to keep them alive... not without vast hunting grounds and trade routes. Not to mention that you will want to expand your Domain by usurping more bodies."

She smiled faintly.

"You are not reckless enough to plunder my people, so you will have to hunt down Nightmare Creatures. Therefore... you will still need a territory to call your own."

Mordret sighed.

"Goodness. Fine, I will admit it... I do indeed want to control a territory in the Dream Realm. But not just any territory will do."

Something was telling Sunny that Mordret would not demand to receive Bastion.

‘What piece of land does he have his eyes on?"

Mordret believed that Asterion was coming, and that the Human Domain — as well as the Shadow Domain — would eventually fall into his hands. He was also prepared to wage a war against Asterion and destroy him.

So, in other words...

Mordret was preparing to wage war on the Human Domain. Just not yet — not while it still belonged to Nephis.

‘This... insane bastard."

In that light, it made a lot of sense why his first choice was the Storm sea. If one wanted to launch a military campaign against all of humanity, there was no better option.

Not only did the Stormsea wash over the southern shores of both human enclaves in the Dream Realm, it was also nebulous and difficult to navigate. With his knowledge and experience of sailing its misty waters, Mordret would be able to launch unexpected attacks all along the coast, as well as use the estuary of the River of Tears to advance north rapidly, almost all the way to Ravenheart. He would also be able to storm Rivergate for the second time and reach Bastion in a matter of days, if not hours.

Best of all, he would be able to retreat into the mists of the Stormsea after each raid, saving himself from Asterion's retaliation. The House of Night had existed for so long without being protected by a Sovereign in large part because invading the Stormsea was an inherently dangerous endeavor — it was almost impossible to conquer it unless you felt at home in its deadly, nebulous waters.

It was a perfect fit. So perfect, in fact, that Sunny could not help but suspect that Mordret had always kept the eventual return of the Dreamspawn in mind, and aimed his sights on the House of Night in large part for that very reason.

However, it was for that reason as well that Nephis and Sunny would never let the newly risen Supreme usurp the Stormsea.

What other region of the Dream Realm could compare, though? What other place could serve Mordret's goals? He smiled. "Give me the Hollow Mountains, then."

Now him saying he wants "Absolutely Nothing" a chapter ago makes perfect sense. Where else would one find a place filled with an absolute amount of 'NOTHING'

Welp it’s official, mordret has spiraled out of control. Sunny needs to find a way to enter the mirror realm fast before mordret just completely outscales them. Honestly my biggest hope for the asterion arc is more info on what the divine lineages actually do, because we really only know about weavers

We have some vague info as to what some of the lineages do, according to a line from Nephis the fire mends her, although I don’t remember if she said it healed her body or soul. The Storm God’s lineage seems to have some effects on your ability to fight in water and such, and it seems like Lineages also generally affect the aspect you’re given.

I don't want a redemption arc for Mordret. I'm sick of these sympathetic, redeemable villains in media these days. Take me back to the scar days, the judge from the hunchback of notradam days. The good old days when a bastard was a sick fck and we loved it ( and hated it ).

Mordert is a psycophantic ( I mean Sunny is, too, but ) mastermind. Leave him that way. Him becoming good would undermine and ruin his character. Keep him as a scheming sadistic bastard who uses people for his own gain, whether it's a rando, "friend," family of even himself. That's where Mordret is at his best.

I don't want him teaming up with Asterion either. I think G3 should make this a three-way war. Sunless & Nephis vs. Mordret vs. Asterion. If G3 does this right, we would have an even better war arc than the one we got ( and I really liked that war arc ).

Mordret isn't a villain, he's just a bastard and a traitor. He's not against humanity. He just wants to get rid of his enemies, Anvil and Asterion. He doesn't attack anyone without reason and keeps his promises. He has a goal and will do anything for it. When he fails, he gives up and seeks another. I didn't get control of Bastion, so f#ck it, I'll take the Hollow Mountains.

There not friends and they'll never be.
He is a human,he was shattered to seven pieces and then millions more, he mimics human behaviour out of habit and necessity. With every step he took to divinity he inherently lost some humanity. Sunny wants to retain
his humanity (at least some of it) The most they could ever be in any situations is temporary allies.

So what happened to all the vessels becoming stronger when taken by the skinwalker? Skinwalker makes his vessels at least ascended, and mordret took skinwalker as a vessel.

It's hard for me to understand why he wouldn't just team up in a 2v1 against Mordret. The more time you give him, the more time he'll have to gather carcasses of nightmare creatures, probably sacred ones. In fact, the fact that he has a divine aspect, in my opinion, makes him worse than Asterion, especially since they both know he's an irredeemable psychopath. There's also no guarantee he won't team up with Asterion against them both. At this point, it just seems like a repeat of events; at some point, he'll betray them and blah blah blah.

ok lets be realistic here mordret wont wait out the fight of asterion vs sunny and nephis i can see 1 of 2 thing happening mordret is working with asterion and had been lying the whole time or that he fights asterion with nephis and sunny gets something from asterion to become much more powerful as lets not forget although mordret has alot of vessels and is strong not a single one is that high ranked and if sunny used the power of the cursed tyrant moth all of mordrets vessels could very likely be taken over so mordret is still leagues below sunny i think he is roughly equal to nephis and they are both substantialy weaker than sunny atm i think nephis is in dire need of a power up as going into this asterion fight sunny will have also created his soulbound weapon which will be crazy has a sacred orphne an equal to orphne saint as it makes no narative sense for orphne to be stronger than saint serpent whos now a supreme titan and at any moment in the future probably during the asterion fight will become a sacred titan he cliffs nephis and mordret this also makes me worried that G3 has written himself into a corner with how strong asterion is with how genuinely f#cked sunny will be going into this

i think G3 has written himself into a corner with how strong asterion is as he at least has to be alot alot stronger than sunny, who going into the asterion fight (will have soulbound weapon) probably could do quite well in a fight against both mordret and nephis. this requires him to be so much stronger than sunny to stand a chance against all 3 which will be difficult to explain as he only has 2 more divine lineages than sunny but he alos dosent have a divine aspect probably not a sacred one either as im guessing broken sword had that and asterion was weaker than broken sword(who also didnt have a divine lineage) therefore has at most a supreme aspect and i struggle to see how hes going to be as strong as we need him to be especially as sunny and nephhis are going to struggle in this as how easily they killed anvil and ki song i could see a cohort member dying or something of a similar nature maybe a shadow of sunnys dying to save him for them to come back and kill him as we all miss analytic sunny while hes losing finding a way to win

Asterion can take Nephis's domain from her and there's nothing she can do about it. With Nephis's domain, he's stronger than sunny.

Sunny's domain is absolutely broken. Even if it's currently weaker, it still has potential to surpass everyone. Mordred has a million? Kill him and get 1 million shadows. Asters virus? Kill him and absorb the virus. Nephis followers? Kill em all and eat them all.

dosent even need to do that as not a single thing can be done by mordret or nephis to sunnys domain as he has the moth who wipes mordret and nephiss domains by miles and that is only one of the sacred shades.

ye i agree asterion will be stronger than sunny as that would be stupid for him not to be but he has to be so much stronger than sunny such that him and nephis wouldnt be able to take him together which means there is either gonna be a nerf to sunny who also at any point can use the 6th form of shadow dance or an asspull of how asterion got strong enough to be stronger than sunny and nephis

Once Mordret gets hollow mountains, both Sunny and Nephis are cooked.

That guy has some crazy plot armor.
I wouldn't be surprised if he conquers the whole population of HM in couple of months and pull what Sunny couldn't with burned forest in a whole year.

And let's not forget he can create sacred rank reflections by tearing his soul core, with the unlimited supply of 'nothing' there, he could create a whole battalion of them.

Within few months his nation will be far more populated than whole human domain and can obliterate the so called immortal shadow legion into nothingness !!!
