Chapter 2438: Concept of Humanity

The blinding ray of pure white light struck the towering Nightmare Creature and was extinguished, denied the power to harm it, rather, vanishing without leaving a trace on the grey flesh of the Cursed Demon.

Time and space themselves bent, allowing its enormous mass to draw near Nephis far more rapidly than it should have been able to. Her wings raised a hurricane, sending her flying back, out of the way of innumerable skeletal limbs that stretched forward, aiming to grab her into a deadly grip.

The world that had let the Cursed Demon pass so rapidly resisted her movement, sapping her momentum and slowing her down. If not for the armor of the Will Nephis had forged for herself, she might not have been able to move at all.

As it was, she barely avoided the harrowing forest of charred hands, slipping away between the Cursed Demon's fingers.

Flying backward, she gritted her teeth.

The Nightmare Creature had a hundred hands, but Nephis only had one sword.

And even that sword had proven ineffective against the authority of the fallen god.

The authority it possessed was too absolute in its ability to deny her. The ancient horror wielded it both as a shield and as a weapon, both as the lure and as the trap, as well, preventing the adversary from harming it while simultaneously refusing their ability to escape.

Nephis frowned.

No. her adversary was not simply wielding the authority of abjuration. It personified abjuration - the very concept of foreswearing something, thus negating its power and its very existence.

That was what Will could accomplish when elevated to the very edge of being absolute.

How would one fight against an absolute Will?

Although Nephis did not know it yet, the technique Sunny would use in Ariel's Game was to channel and personify a concept that directly opposed the power of his adversary.

However, the two of them were entirely different people, and what Sunny could achieve was not what Nephis could or should be striving to emulate. She had her own path to forge.

Just then, the Cursed Demon's innumerable eyes locked on Neph's fleeting figure, their unfathomable depths gleaming with a distressing notion.

And a moment later, she felt her very existence beginning to grow faint.

Because Abjuration was done playing with its food. Instead of resisting her attacks, the fiend simply chose to deny Nephis herself - to reject her existence, forcing the world into erasing her completely.

'How do I resist a deity's Will?'

It was a complicated question - a question that only a handful of people had been forced to ask themselves ever since the Nightmare Spell descended upon the world.

To Nephis, though, the answer was easy. She simply had to break it with her own. She simply had to crush it.

If the Nightmare Creature refused to burn, she had to burn it with more powerful flames.

If it refused to be cut, she had to slash it with a sharper blade.

If it refused to die. She simply had to convince death to take it.

"Hey, Nightmare Creature."

Nephis landed on the rubble and slid back, pushed almost to the edge of the water.

Her eyes flared with distressing white radiance.

"Do you think you can snuff me out that easily?"

Her presence, which had grown faint, suddenly seemed clear, vast, and unfathomable.

Abjuration might have been able to negate the existence of a Saint, of a weaker Sovereign, possibly. But Nephis ruled over and inspired all of humanity. To deny her existence, the creature would have had to erase all of mankind from existence first. To extinguish all of the innumerable stars that illuminated the vast heaven of her soul in an instant.

She was Changing Star. the Star of Ruin. The goddess of humanity.

Nephis did not like these words and had even taken measures to dissuade people from calling her by that title, as well as from worshipping her as a deity. But while she had not undergone Apotheosis yet, to some degree, there was truth to what some were saying.

For all intents of purposes, she had become the personification of humanity. Her sword was the sword of all humans, and carried the weight of all their hopes and dreams.

Of all their longing.

Her flames were fueled by their desire.

"How dare you deny me?"

Snarling, Nephis dashed forward.

The Blessing was strengthened by all of her Soul Flame, strengthened more than even her body and soul were due to its [Flame Conduit] trait. At the same time, its capacity to overwhelm the Will of Nightmare Creatures was further enhanced by the [Purifying Light] trait - the special quality of the shadowbound sword that made it especially lethal to those tainted by the Corruption.

But, more importantly, it had become the vessel of her Will.

And her Will was fueled by her desire to slay the Cursed Demon.

Desire was the root of all virtues, no less, as well as of all sin. There was hardly a more potent source of willpower than passionate yearning.

'Burn!'

Gathering all of her Will into the tip of the blade, Nephis moved it in a downward slash - the same downward slash she had practiced myriads of times, until every minuscule detail of performing it flawlessly was absorbed into her very bones.

And answering to her Will.

The world burned.

It burned brightly, the stone rubble melting and the dark lake boiling.

But that was only the beginning. Because in the next moment, Nephis channeled her Will into speaking the Words, as well.

A frightening Verse of linked True Names escaped from her lips, summoning fire and destruction upon the world. The intense white flames surged and roared, consuming the very fabric of existence.

But Nephis was still not done.

Releasing the confines of her mortal shell, she unleashed her true Transcendent form.

A mass of white flame rose from the ground, easily as tall as the grotesque mountain of gray flash. The flame moved as if it possessed a life of its own, surging forward to meet the Cursed Demon.

As it did, the mass of flames assumed the form of a radiant winged figure wielding a radiant blade.

The giant blade woven out of pure white light fell, aiming to sever a dozen of the Abomination's severed limbs.

The radiance of it all was so blinding that it seemed as if dawn had shone upon the shattered darkness of True Bastion.

And, illuminated by that light, the Cursed Demon cowered, terrified by the memories of the ruthless destructive sky.

Of course, naturally, it only faltered for a brief moment.

what?! i love g3 and this novel but common this is some bs.
the thing denied the existence of nephis, and then soln nephis came up with is: I am Almighty and she broke abjurations will with her will?
okay even considering that a CURSED DEMON and a GREAT TITAN are somewhat on the same level,
what will she do if she comes across someone who is stronger than her? like the moth or on the level of the moth. Their will is absolute in comparison to a mere sovereign titans!

What sunny did against the wolf was very logical using a counter. This was mostly due to Shadow Dance. We can already see that due to this Sunny can compete with being way stronger than him and by the logic of the above chapter, Nephis absolutely should'nt be able to unless she spams nukes.

How is this BS, Nephis is channeling strength from billions of other people in order to compete with what Sunny did. What Sunny did (and still coming back from it despite not having a True Name) is WAY more bs than what Nephis does here. Also if she spams nukes if she doesn't have the appropriate level of Will the Cursed Demon would just remove the nukes from existence.

what i am saying is that both the creature and nephis are on a similar level, as ranks increase power gap increases. Ususally a titan is close to a tyrant of the next rank, but btw great and cursed it may have fallen to demon or devil.

What I am trying to say is how will nephis fight with someone stronger than her? She wont be able to enforce her Will onto that being right?

Also this Sunny part was a lil dumb too, i agree.

Yeah I don't think what Nephis does here has more potential than what Sunny can do by channeling different concepts.

because the whole power system after a saint is "muh will stronga" also a great titan is NOT on the same level as a cursed demon. Since the gap between ranks increases the closer you get to divinity or unholiness a great titan is at the very least on a cursed devils level. Going off Sunny's track record He can kill a titan of the same rank as himself, up to a terror of the next class under extreme diff, and under certain circumstances in an extreme diff fight with prep a beast of 2 ranks above.

Because Wills are unique to the Sovereign, Nephis would not be able to replace her Will with an opposing concept like Sunny could. And Sunny wouldn’t be able to make his will so unbreakable as to withstand the authority of such a high level being.

Yes??? That's literally the entire f#cking core of Will, you are rewriting reality through sheer force of personality, now when we see Nephis taking it to it's logical extreme it's BS? Go to sleep bruh, there's nothing here that's new that hasn't been explained before 😭👎🏿

hmmm, interesting. I think that sunny's potential as a supreme is greater than nephis. she already maxed her domain's reach within humanity, while sunny theoretically has no limit to how big his army gets. and unlike sunny, nephis's domain can fluctuate(if humanity lose faith/reduced in number)

What's crazy is sunny achieved more then nephos. Even before attaining supermercy, he just wasn't that ambitious. Or else he could've taken the ivory tower ( it's practically his citadel considering he found the path to it and he was the one who found the second nightmare seed).

He also was the reason Nephis, the cohort and thousands (if not millions) of people are alive, what he did in Antarctica alone is enough to creat an entire great clan.

Nephis is sometimes too glazed (this isn't hate for my girl nephis), as she practically did nothing too notable for someone of her calibur (besides conquering the second nightmare as a sleeper, and achieving supremacy, the latter being something sunny did as well).

Some predications: Sunny will get apotheosis through exploring and conquering the shadow realm or his own realm inside of himself. While this is happening, Asterion gets apotheosis from fully exploring whatever mystery is on the moon and his name being spread by his moon cult.
Then there will be a big battle with Sunny, Nephis, Mordret, Asterion, as well as the Skinwalker in which it will be Sunny, Nephis, Mordret vs Asterion and the Skinwalker. My bet is that all of them will attain apotheosis either before or during this big battle. After this battle when sunny attains apotheosis he will then go and try to kill the thieving bird in the third nightmare to reclaim his fated aspect and everyone's memories of him. When he does succeed this will trigger him to gain his shadow god inheritance which will significantly boost him but also the finale by reawakening the cursed god due to his forbidden lineage.
In this battle Sunny and nephis will become divine. The only thing I am not so sure about is the role of the 7 including the shadow archer and the skeleton dude in the shadow realm. Maybe the archer at the end will fulfill her destiny in killing 'weaver' by killing sunny? As sunny is now the main inheritor of weaver?

I feel you are giving too much importance to Asterion. Ik it seems tht way from the past few chapters, but Asterion getting apotheosis is going to very very hard to explain. Asterion is merely a beast facing 2 titans is impossible.
We can already see that the 7 are going to form again in the form of sunny neph jet effie cassie mordert morgan mainly because weaver called sunny epigoni. Which kindof means disciple sure but it also refers to Greek Mythology (war of thebes) saying what we couldnt do, you will

No because even if VTB is a special Cursed terror sunny has always been able to kill titans on the same rank as himself so If he was a Sacred the VTB fight wouldn't be that difficult. My guess is that he's going to get 2 more of weavers lineage or maybe even the 3rd one and then go after VTB

That I don’t totally agree with, yes Sunny’s power can rival a titan of the same rank as him and even a tyrant from the cursed rank, but VTB is different is has escaped Weaver and the 6 Deamons and 7 gods numerous times and is just as old as the Deamons and gods themselves it will be a hard fought battle and he’ll need help.

This chapter was interesting, but I thought I realized that Sunny might be the worst enemy for the Abjuration, after all he managed to maintain his existence in the face of "nothingness" and the lack of destiny, resisting being denied is a concept that he has already incorporated a long time ago, just like as a hunter when he faced the Snow Wolf.

Not all nothing creatures, as G3 himself puts it, are equal in power.

The powers of the work are becoming more and more abstract than destructive, Condemnation assimilated everything around him, the Puppeteer controlled through doubt in their minds and now Abjuration rejection. I don't know if I like it, I think I prefer a good battle with more direct powers.

there was a quote sunless had said when he glanced at the depictions of gods fighting. He said, the gods fought with concepts rather than swords, and it would be comical to actually expect gods to fight with fists and legs.
