Chapter 2424: The Word is Mightier than a Grenade

The flames suddenly grew in intensity, and a wave of unbearable heat washed over the bank vault. The figure imprisoned in the slowly blooming explosion shuddered and convulsed, a strangely distorted scream reaching Rain's ears.

She knew that the Tyrant was not going to be killed by the flames. The very fact that she had been able to speak the Name of Fire proved it - her Flaw would have prevented her from channeling it otherwise. However, he would definitely be hurt by the explosion. a lot.

Not only was the Tyrant more susceptible to being burned because of the Epithet she had assigned him, but her other Epithet synergized with Corsair's Aspect, slowing the burning Master down even more.

The man himself rolled away from the explosion, escaping it entirely. Jumping to his feet near Rain, she gazed at her with his piercing blue eyes and said evenly from under his monstrous mask:

".I thought you were a pacifist?"

Rain smiled radiantly.

"I am!"

With that, she turned to the burning Master and dismissed the Combustible Epithet, replacing it with another one.

Hyperalgesic.

Extremely sensitive to pain.

Rain was not going to admit why she even knew that word, but she did. And as a result, the peculiarly distorted scream turned into a strangely distorted howl.

Corsair stared at her with his calm blue eyes. But. Did Rain imagine it, or had the tall man shivered faintly?

Surely, it was just her imagination.

Some time later, the commotion was over.

The robbers - who had turned out to be zealots - were unconscious and restrained. The badly burned corpse of the Tyrant was covered by a sheet. Rain had not killed him, naturally. Like the peaceful and harmless person that she was, she simply made him wail and convulse in agony while Tamar and Corsair finished the job.

She had suggested sparing the murderous zealot and merely knocking him out, even, but Corsair had other ideas. She could understand his decision, as well - the Awakened criminals were already difficult to contain, but imprisoning an unhinged Master demanded a wealth of resources the government did not possess.

The government was barely holding the world from falling apart as it was. In any case, the lockdown was lifted from the bank. Corsair, Ray, and Fleur disappeared without a trace, while Rain and Tamar stayed behind to have a talk with the government forces. Tamar's status as a Legacy and a former centurion of the Seventh Royal Legion would come in handy to explain how a dozen Awakened criminals and an Ascended mastermind ended in their current pitiful state.

After checking on the hostages and releasing them from the restraints, the two of them walked outside. As they waited for the police to arrive in front of the bank's doors, Rain glanced around, her gaze lingering on the graffiti marring the walls for a moment.

She sighed. NQSC had really changed. In the past, there would not have been graffiti in such a prestigious district. Especially one lacking any artistic value. just a mess of letters drawn in faded paint.

There would not have been crazed zealots robbing banks, either. She glanced at Tamar.

"Hey. We did not just happen to be in that bank by accident, did we?"

Tamar gave her an impassive stare.

Eventually, though, she shrugged.

"Maybe."

Rain raised a hand and flicked her on the forehead.

"I knew it! Why, though? Don't get me wrong, I do not mind foiling a bank robbery. Actually, it was kind of exciting. But I am so busy today - I have to speak in front of a large crowd in an hour!"

She made a pitiful face. Tamar looked at her, remained silent for a few seconds, then sighed.

"Your brother is preoccupied at the moment. So, Aiko asked me to evaluate Corsair's performance and back his team up if necessary. Granted. she probably did not expect that I'd take you with me."

Rain chuckled.

"So why did you?"

Tamar glanced at her with the usual stern frown.

"I mean. you're kind of hard to get rid of, you know?"

A rare smile illuminated her face, and she glanced away.

"Plus, I wanted you to see Corsair in action and get your opinion. I am assembling a cohort to challenge the Second Nightmare, you know. I had my eye on him, but needed to make sure that he'll fit."

Rain smiled, as well.

"And what do you think? Will he fit?"

Tamar nodded.

"Sure. Asterion will fit just fine."

Rain blinked.

"Huh?"

Had she heard wrong?

"What did you say?"

Tamar looked at her in confusion.

"I said that Corsair will fit just fine. Why?"

Rain tilted her head a little.

"Ah. I think you misspoke."

She pointed to the wall.

"That graffiti must have been on your mind, huh?"

There, someone had written in large, bold letters:

AS TE RI ON.

"What's an asterion, anyway?"

Tamar studied the graffiti for a moment, as if noticing it only now, then frowned and shook her head.

"No idea. Sounds a bit familiar, I guess?"

Somewhere far away, sirens broke the silence. Rain patted Tamar on the shoulder.

"Well. you'll deal with it. I have an academic report to make."

Turning around, she began to walk away. The strange word got stuck in her mind, repeating itself like an earworm:

'Asterion, asterion. as - te - ri - on.'

***

In a hallway in Ravenheart, Sunny stopped and leaned on the wall.

He had just remembered receiving a report about the bank robbery, and Rain's participation in it.

'She did what?'

"Rain. cooked a Master alive?!"

Alive being the key word.

And she had forcefully dismissed an Echo, too. Apparently, that was something his sister was capable of, now. According to the report, she had been inspired to try something like that after seeing the cooked Master's Aspect Ability, which allowed him to prevent Awakened from summoning Memories.

If someone could interfere with summoning Memories, why wouldn't someone be able to interfere with dismissing them?

"No, but why the hell is she going around getting into fights with Masters, in the first place?"

He had turned away for a minute. not even that!

One - seventh of him had turned away. Sunny huffed and puffed, angry that Rain had been put in the position where she had to face a hostile Ascended. And with barely anyone. except for four elite agents of the Shadow Clan. present to protect her!

'What have I assigned Quentin to Bastion for? Could he not have followed her to NQSC?'

Shaking his head, Sunny continued walking.

'I need to have a serious talk with Aiko about that incident.'

But just then, another memory from the past few weeks surfaced in his mind.

Sunny froze, then let out a hollow laugh.

"What. what did Aiko do?"

One thing I’ve noticed is that both the Author and Readers seem to have forgotten about Aspect Evolutions (although who knows maybe Guiltythree is just playing the long con again), and that you don’t need a Divine aspect to fight people with a divine aspect. Morgan could beat Sunny despite not having a divine aspect. and even if Asterion didn’t always have a divine aspect he might have one now.

Morgan could never beat Sunny, he held back when they sparred. She could almost beat Mordret the first time they fought though. but that was mainly because Mordret doesnt have a combat aspect. your principal isnt wrong though, just your example. idk how Aspect evolution works tbh, did G3 say how it works?

Morgan could definitely beat sunny, he literally says he wasn’t sure he could beat her, and she was holding back too. Neither of them were using their ascended abilities.

Bro you are so stupid Sunny only needs one of his incarnations to kill Morgan just like how he fought against 13 Saints. Morgan cannot even fight against 3 Saints, what are you talking about

I’m not even talking about his Supreme form, but about his Saint phase where he fought against 13 and beat them all, and Morgan couldn’t even achieve 1/7 of what Sunny did in that battle. When it comes to Masters Morgan might be stronger than Sunny but only due to her having more experience as a Master and more echos and more resources as a nepo baby.

Morgan could beat Sunny without having a divine aspect but that only because she was an ascended and he was a awakened at the time

      Morgan could beat Sunny ?.😂😂
The only instance Morgan could beat sunny is this entire novel was when she fought sunny as an ascended when he was still awakened.
I don't know why you guys choose to live in delusion. A divine aspect user can NEVER loose to someone of the same rank who isn't a divine aspect holder.
This is just the precedent G3 has set.

Cassie could have killed Sunny in long term if her goal was to kill him and not free him from fate . Also she might have been able to kill him when both were ascended if she attacked him out of nowhere . Like she killed a corrupted tyrant with one hit as as ascended . She definitely could have killed sunny as a sacred aspect holder .

Next you will tell me cassie when she becomes supreme can kill Nephis.
Someone that Nephis will obliterate with her nuke. F#CK HER "SKIMMING".

How exactly does cassie want to win against a divine aspect holder except sending another divine aspect holder or a creature of high rank to kill them ?.

PPL overrating Cassie too much yeah she is mastermind but she can only manipulate sunny fate not change them. I agree she is awesome and I never hated her even after forgotten shore I like even more just for her I read this novel from the strat after I finished reading 3rd nightmare.

Like Dude where are the partners in crime without cassie sunny will have hard time manipulating 3rd nightmare I mean sin of solice is the reason why sunny still remembers himself and also the same for Cassie. Of course without sunny Cassie manipulation won't work at all they both pratical need eachother for their plans to successfully break fate. Idk why most fandoms are dumb or something the reason cassie is so smart is because you all underestimated her so much because we don't know about her G3 showed other ppl backgrounds and their personality so well but he purposefully hidden Cassie untill 3rd nightmare is over. Which makes her the most suspicious and she doesn't know most of the future as an ascended. Sunny didn't know anything at all about future but he is the reason for every important thing that happens so she used him and her vison to redeem herself for wt she did and then u guys starting overrating her I know wt she did but think carefully u will understand wt I'm saying cause this is a gamble with 50/50 odds but having sunny changes it and we know how he is [Fated]. So Cassie is making a way for sunny and sunny followed his path which is manipulated by his "fated" and his desire. Then he is the one actually manipulated 3rd nightmare if u think about the estuary u will understand wt I meant like the key of estuary or sin of solice linked to it like that. Then finally both don't know how or wt will break the fate which is a gamble and the "fated" is one of the reasons he was able reach "soul weave" and there is something that no one excepted but something that can break fate which cassie knows through her aspect. Isn't it like fate itself is showing her "I can break if u tried". Which is the reason he got "soul weave" and cursed tyrant which has power to harm weaver the deamon of fate who created nightmare spell where the cursed tyrant stuck on and waiting a oppertunity to escape and sunny who is perfect for it with a "fated" attribute. Wt I'm trying to say is there are alot of things at play which lead to sunny became fateless and wt u guys are doing is basically overrating Cassie because u underestimated her. I don't hate Cassie I love her so much but give her the credit she deserves not too much and don't cry when u expect too much (I'm telling it because that's how fandoms always thinks)

Do you know what would be cool?
We know from Evris' stories that Sunny can create real shadow creatures by sacrificing a shadow core. But why would he do that if, hypothetically, they might not obey him? We need a "test case" to see what happens. And I know who you need.
We didn't see the battle between Mordret and the King of Swords, which we had been waiting for for almost the entire novel (G3 frankly screwed up with this). And imagine, in the battle between Sunny and Mordret, which will be 100 percent, as a result of deception, scheme, deal, Sunny makes a real shadow creature out of the shadow of the King of Swords and send to battle. And we finally learn in detail about their history, conflicts and madness, as well as finally their battle. And Sunny will test his ability. What do you think?

Yeah it's never confirmed but thinking about it, the theory does make sense. It explains why a shadow inhabits each of his shadow cores (sacrificing a shadow core to make it merge with the shadow and thus making it complete) but it would be a HUGE sacrifice considering his incarnations depend on his shadow cores.

Asterion's domain is highly prolific, as people only need to know his name, they don't even need to know who he is. When Asterion returns, all people who know his name should be sucked into his domain automatically, similar to when Nephis became supreme and everyone with a spark of desire became part of his domain.
