Chapter 2252: Sovereign of Death

Far away, a incandescent star fell from the dark sky, and a colossal explosion of white flame enveloped the dreadful figure of the Queen. The two unified great armies shone with beautiful light, pushing the flood of Nightmare Creatures back for a few short moments.

The wounded were healed, and the morale of those who had almost lost hope was bolstered.

Sunny smiled.

Nephis had succeeded, as well.

A profound relief flooded his heart. As much as Sunny had steeled it to accept the possibility that numerous people would die as a result of their rebellion, consumed by the Nightmare Spell, he was incredibly relieved to know that the worst had not come to pass.

Their plan had worked. Both Sunny and Nephis had become Supreme.

In fact, the two of them seemed to have attained Supremacy at the same time.

Nephis was already helping the two unified armies.

So…

It was only proper for him to lend a hand, as well.

Sunny allowed one of his shadows to separate itself from his body and dart away. Now that he was supreme, each of his shadows was deep and vast likе an ocean…

A few seconds later, the shadow reached its destination.

And opened like a gate that led to the tranquil depths of his lightless soul.

'Come forth, my shadows…'

Sunny laughed.

"Look closely, King of Swords. Look and see why war can never triumph over death!"

As his words echoed in the darkness, a cold wind blew across the battlefield, as though death itself had let out a frigid breath. The shadows moved, and dark figures slowly rose from them like an inky-black sea.

There were a myriad of them… some were small, some were enormous. Some were weak, some were immensely powerful. Some were human, while most were monstrous.

The army of shadows had left the peaceful stillness of his soul and entered the real world, flowing across the surface of the ancient bone in eerie silence.

The shadow of Mountain King was among them. There was a legion of Nightmare Creatures of the Forgotten Shore, led by the appalling Spire Messenger and the Forsaken Knight of the ruined cathedral, and a few Sleepers of the Bright Castle as well, led by the shadows of Harus, Caster, and the lost companions of the first Bright Lord.

The shadow of the Soul Devouring Tree towered above the battlefield, its enormous branches swaying in the wind.

There was a legion of abominations from the Chained Isles, too, led by the shadows of the War Maidens and the twin shadows of Solvane. The Barrow Wraiths Sunny had once slain while defending Rain's school from a Nightmare Gate were there, as well.

The largest legion by far was the Nightmare Creatures Sunny had slain in Antarctica — Fallen Titan Goliath was among them, as well as Winter Beast. There was also the Defiled Seeker of Truth, the Remnant of the Jade Queen, Sybil of the Fallen Grace… the shadows of Knight Amiran and Saint Dire Fang were there, too.

There were dreadful abominations of the Tomb of Ariel there, as well. The shadows of King Daeron and Wind Flower led them, standing side by side under the sky of the Dream Realm once again.

There were the shadows of various Nightmare Creatures he had killed while wandering the Dream Realm, forgotten by everyone.

Lastly, there was a vast legion of powerful Nightmare Creatures whom Sunny had slain here, in Godgrave. The six Saints of the Song Army he had killed were among them, too, led by the giant with the head of a jackal.

And at the head of the shadow army, serving as its general…

A taciturn knight in an intricate onyx armor sat atop a tenebrous steed, her graceful figure shrouded by a mantle of dread and darkness.

The only shadow that refused to answer Sunny's call was the shadow of Condemnation, which remained quietly in his soul. The rest of them, however, stirred as Saint raised her black sword.

Sunny smiled viciously and looked at Anvil.

"Kill them all."

Saint pointed her sword forward, and the sea of silent shadows surged. As it flowed forward in eerie silence,it separated into three forces.

One of the three forces came to the rescue of the human armies. Nephis had already bestowed the power of her radiant Domain upon the desperate soldiers, but now, countless shadows joined the fight, obliterating the Nightmare Creatures of the abominable jungle…

And with each creature they killed, a new shadow appeared on the surface of the dark lake within Sunny's soul, escaping it moments later to join the battle on his side.

The second force descended upon the puppets of the Queen, aiming to annihilate them all.

The third force clashed with the remnants of the storm of flying swords, destroying them one after another.

Looking at it, Sunny could not help but shiver.

Even he was a little afraid of his newfound power.

His power… just seemed exponentially terrifying. It was like Death itself.

But maybe that was what it meant, to be a Sovereign. Especially a Sovereign carrying the power of a Divine Aspect.

…And he had no doubt that the Dream Realm hid many horrors that could put even his terrible power to shame. Horrors that could break him, let alone stop him.

As his shadow legions were reaping lives and destroying the forces of the King and the Queen, Sunny turned to Anvil with a pleased smile.

"Not bad for a rookie Sovereign, don't you think?"

Anvil just stared at him coldly, a hint of unease in his grey eyes.

"Natural Supremacy? That is impossible. How did you…"

Sunny chuckled.

"Well, if you wish to know…"

He took a step forward.

"I traveled to the very edge of the Dream Realm, scaled the jagged peaks of the Hollow Mountains, descended to a land below the Underworld to seek counsel from the corpse of a forgotten godslayer, killed the shadow of a corrupted god, forged a blessed sword for an incorruptible soul, cheated Death by taking my own life, and survived."

Then, he looked at Anvil with dark fury and added in a low voice:

"But mostly… I just really, really wanted to kill you. I guess you just pissed me off that badly,Anvil."

Grasping the hilt of his odachi, Sunny pointed it at the King of Sword.

"So, prepare to die, bastard."

Wait... What's to stop Sunny from killing himself again every he finds himself in danger? Life hack: whenever things get bad, simply run away into your soul sea.

Actually, if he's ever in danger after this, whatever monstrosity he's fighting will probably be capable of destroying his shadow that's left behind so it wouldn't matter anyway. Nevermind

Well, now, each of his seven bodies counts as a main body.

Kill seven times... a supreme titan... of divine blood... with stealth abilities... and an anti-divination mask.

What's more, now that his body is a shadow, he shouldn't age anymore.

In short, Sunny is truly the king of the cockroaches.

When Sunny went into his soul sea before become a sovereign, he had a body, and his shadows were separate entities as well right?
When ordinary people were killed, their souls and shadows were separate beings, shadows simply being loyal to the being that cast them. So since sunny himself was always a shadow according to the spell, wouldn't it be possible for his soul to actually take the form of a shadow, while his invaluable helpers are seperate beings?

Ohhh my God .....Thought just came to me ...I always saw the Shadow gods the most dangerous God but not the strongest...like the kind of guy u just don't want to be on his bad side ...but his realm and Sunny soul sea are similar if not the same.....I'm thinking if their aspect are similar maybe this is how his domian worked to he could summon and control the dead shadows.... imagine it he could summon even person that's died before .....Sacred.. divines...Unholy titans ....even creatures of the void that him and the gods killed before sealing the void.....

But the shadow realm destroys the shadows there. Maybe that happened after shadow god's death or, if not, maybe there’s another benefit to dissolving the souls. If not a new phenomenon, then it is vastly different than Sunny’s soul sea right now

i think it was explained somewhere during sunny's escapade in the shadow realm. the shadows/souls of those that died in whichever realm enter it so that they get purified and be prevented from being corrupted. afterwards, the shadows are ground back down into essence and released into the world, creating a cycle. think of it as the life cycle of water we learn in science class. if my assumption is correct, then the shadows in the realm would have been supplying the shadow god their essence the same way as sunny's shadows are supplying him with nearly unlimited amounts at the moment. but since shadow god is dead, the essences are released into the world.

Correct but Sunny’s has the shadows surviving which gives an ongoing supply from his shadows and he can release them as an army. I assume the essence return from the shadow realm would be greater per shadow, but they would be unable to be released - or very very few would be able to (shadow archer as an example). That was my point.

It's not like it was bad... At least Sunny had a development worthy of being the supreme shadow. As for the other one... Not so much. And it's not like no one saw it coming either.

Here are some thoughts about the ending of this arc and the contents of the next arc. I've tried to utilise most Chekhov's guns, and I don't know what G3 will actually use, so, accidental spoilers:

Nice speculation, I also think Asterion will return. I think it'll happen through Mordret. He doesn't want sunny to kill Anvil so he makes a deal with Asterion to stall sunny and let him kill him. But I think 2 is unlikely to happen

Good speculation bit 2 is basically impossible aside the fact that I'm sure that Anvils main blade he wields in hus hands I condemnation but besides that ....Condemnation not only had to be beaten he had to be dying for Anvil to turn him to a sword..But Nephis is literally a god ....She is a Supreme titan with a Divine lineage nourishing Her soul not counting that she holds controls 3 great citadels and the rest of humanity.. ....meaning she has him beat in power,will,domain,soul....everything....how can he turn her to a sword It's exactly like him trying to turn Sunny into a Sword....Nope Anvil is gonna collect some good clapping...doubt they'll kill him sha ..maybe they'll give him as peace offering to modret

The problem is that without 2) or something similar happening to Neph I don't see how Asterion could do anything. If he could not spread his Domain while Song and Valor ruled, there is no reason to believe that it would be possible under Nephis and sunny's vigilant eyes. The only one, aside from Asterion, who could be considered a possible threat to the main couple, is Mordret,
and without 2) there is no need for Anvil to be alive, and, consequently, no reasonable grudge against either Changing Star or Sunny (cursed demon is an understandable part of the plan, and, if I remember correctly, in the beginning of the battle for Bastion, prince of nothing directly stated that he is cool with someone else killing Anvil). So, the source of the conflict in the next arc becomes unclear.

Trust me there enough chaos in the next arc I know Asterion returns but he'll probably do it under the protection of Supreme modret....which may cause a problem cause it was his plan to kill Broken Sword....and the n we have the fact that 2 divine aspect titans just became Supreme we don't knows how the dream realm will react to to that in the waking world (obel scale ) the next course of action might be defending and Relocating and don't forget the bigger the human domain grows the more it attracts the slumbering abominations of the dream realm the sleeping great,Cursed and Unholy abominations will wake up attracted by the smell of their souls it's basically a beacon...that means by the time the human realm is gone they'll mostly likely besieged on all sides by Cursed and Unholy abominations....I'm sure the next arc is about gathering power getting more supremes and Saints as well as Sunny or Rain training those who don't want to awaken by the spell to awaken naturally ....remember Europe is lost, north America is lost, Most of south America is lost, part of Australia was lost recently to the category 4 gate there....Antarctica is lost only ,Africa and Asia(South and Northern Quadrants) are basically the only strongholds left the dream realm wiping them out won't take very long with only Saints protecting them...
