Chapter 1008: The Fall of Falcon Scott (26)

Stepping through the spatial rift experienced no different from taking a mundane step. It was only a little bit disorienting — the sudden change of the landscape, the direction of the wind, the subtle shift in the tone of the firing armaments. For Sunny, it was especially so, because he could also feel that the shadows around him were entirely different.

However, there was no time to waste on being confused.

Forcing himself to focus, he followed Dale to the edge of the wall and peered down.

Far below, there was a stretch of land flooded by attacking abominations, with brood beasts swarming above them… and behind those, the edge of a tall cliff that descended toward the shore. The dark expanse of the ocean stretched for as far as the eye could see, moonlight dancing on its restless, black surface.

The sphere of light was slowly growing dimmer as it burned somewhere above and beyond the cliff.

Dale spoke, his voice sounding slightly muffled by the helmet:

"We will have to fight our way through."

Sunny nodded.

"I'll clear the way, you follow."

The Sin of Solace was already manifesting itself into his hand, and shadows were wrapped around his body, filling him with resilience and strength. The Marble Shell was augmented, as well.

Sunny lingered for a moment.

"What about when we reach the Tyrant? We can't allow it to escape, and with Master Jet gone…"

The stalwart Master shook his head.

"I'll trap it and us within the barrier. Then, either the Tyrant dies, or we do. No one will escape."

Sunny had already seen one of Dale's barriers — the one that allowed things to pass from within, but blocked everything coming from the outside. Today, he would see the second one, which functioned in reverse.

More than that, he was going to be trapped inside that barrier with a damned Fallen Tyrant. If they wanted to be sure of the result, there was no better way.

"Great. I'll be going, then. Come down in a few seconds."

Instead of summoning the Dark Wing, Sunny simply turned into a shadow, slid over the edge of the battlement, and swiftly glided down the surface of the wall. In a moment, he was already on the ground, emerging from the darkness with the jade jian whittling through the air.

By the time Dale landed behind him, using some sort of rope Memory, half a dozen abominations were already bleeding on the ground.

The defenders on that section of the wall had already received orders to support their sortie, as well, shifting their fire to help the Ascended create a corridor through the mass of Nightmare Creature. Granted, they were spread too thin between the Devouring Cloud and the abominations attacking the wall in a desperate attempt to escape from the swarm, so the results were modest.

At least Sunny did not have to worry about catching a tungsten round with his back.

'Goddamn… great…'

Sunny and Dale rushed forward, fighting their way through the tide of frenzied Nightmare Creatures. The stalwart Master used his heater shield and heavy flanged mace to crush and break the abominations, flinging their bodies out of the way. Sunny simply cut through them, rendering the hideous body with the jade blade of the Sin of Solace.

However, there were just too many enemies to kill. Even if Dale's plate armor easily shrugged off blow after blow, and Sunny could simply ignore most of the attacks that got through his defenses, the weight of the horde threatened to push them back. More than that, they were constantly accosted by the brood beasts from above, making it much harder to remain alive.

For now, they had not met a creature powerful enough to be a lethal threat — which was a testament to how incredibly durable both Masters were... but it was only a matter of time.

Sunny growled, and then called upon the shadows.

Instantly, dark hands rose from the ground, grabbing the abominations and either throwing them aside, or outright tearing their bodies to pieces. Black chains whipped in the air, obliterating lunging brood beasts.

"If you have a good Memory or two, use them now!"

Dale bashed a leaping abomination with his shield, turning its body into bloody paste, and tore something off his belt.

In the next moment, there was a blinding flash, and then a sound akin to the roar of an angry dragon shook the world. Sunny smelled the carnage before he witnessed it. In front of them, a morbid path of charred corpses cut through the horde.

Dale pushed Sunny forward and lunged into the momentary rift in the mass of Nightmare Creatures.

"That one has to accumulate charges for a long time! We won't be able to use it against the Tyrant…"

Sunny snarled as he ran.

"We need to find the damned bastard first! Don't hold back!"

A few minutes of frenzied slaughter later, battered but alive, they reached the edge of the cliff and plunged down. Sunny had turned into a shadow once again, while Dale utilized an enchanted rope with a vicious hook tied to its end. The hook had been ruthlessly thrust into the flesh of an especially massive Nightmare Creature just a second before.

…Down on the stone beach, there were much fewer abominations. Some of them had already been cleaned to the bone by the brood beasts, while others were alive and full of murderous fury. Some distance away, Sunny could see the tall walls of the port fortress and the shapes of gargantuan ships resting on the waves.

As he looked around in search of their prey, something flew from the darkness, forcing him to jump aside. It turned out to be a massive chunk of bleeding flesh that had been the torso of a Nightmare Creature seemingly only moments ago.

Looking at where the chunk of flesh came from, Sunny witnessed a chilling sight.

Out there ahead of them, halfway to the dark water, a towering being being besieged by a mob of abominations. Six segmented legs, a tail with a long stinger, torn and broken leathery wings… and three terrifying circular maws swaying on the ends of long necks.

As he watched, one of the monstrosity's maws shot down, biting into the body of a powerful Nightmare Creature. With a violent twist, the creature came undone, rivers of blood and viscera spilling onto the cold stones. At the same time, the other two maws shredded a couple more abominations, swallowing large chunks of them whole. The tail stinger shot forward with blinding speed, piercing another and pumping poison into its convulsing body.

Sunny gazed at the macabre scene with dark resentment.

'...Be careful of what you wish for, I guess.'

They had discovered the Tyrant of the Devouring Cloud.

Is that a corrupt Tyrant or fallen tyrant? I don't think Sunny can kill a corrupt tyrant.

so far the power system and scaling has been VERY consistent, people just seem to be upset that sunny isn't some insanely unstoppable character that can beat anything he fights

How is it consistent, when at one time he struggles with fallen nightmares but easily kills corrupted ones. The opposite is also true

Cause like most things a numeric value doesn't say everything about the power of a person. Most of the time during any war it is more akin to rock-paper-scissor than whose power number is greater except instead of just three (rock, paper and scissors) there are hundreds or thousands of combination.

Some guys just can’t comprehend how different classes can affect ranks doesn’t matter if it’s a corrupted beast, a fallen devil is still stronger. Just like how Sunny possesses four core as a devil, fallen devil also possesses four cores and it is much better in terms of the quality of its power. Not only does a nightmare creature possess more power the higher their class is, they are also much more intelligent. In simple terms, classes can cross the difference in ranks as long as it is high enough. For example, an awakened Titan will still be stronger than a corrupted beast , although only slightly. Just like the Mountain king.

The one incident of consistency must include the fact marble saint when she was ascended demon couldn't interfere in fight of awakened sunny and awakened terror nightmare (same ascended demon was facing 3 corrupted monsters in battle)
There is basic structure of class and rank that is consistent but there are some situations where they either explode with strength beyond that was showed before or perform at lower intensity

Alright so I have been seeing a lot of debate on the power system and how it’s “inconsistent”, but hopefully with how I explain it as how I believe it works, it may clear it up.

With a monsters divinity (awakened, fallen, corrupted, etc.) I picture as a physical increase to them making them a lot stronger of a prior rank of the same class.

Class (beast, monster, demon, etc.) however, I picture as more of a mental increase where they are actually thinking and using methods and techniques in battle. A tyrant especially with its ability to command minions is an example of how it can control its area. Not only that, but it can also fight back alone if it needed too. A devil on the other hand won’t have as much skills or iq to maneuver around the awakened compared to a tyrant.

Yes a corrupted devil is technically stronger, but the iq of a fallen tyrant can make it seem more dangerous depending on the situation.

TLDR: divinity is physical increase, class is mental, battle iq increase. We can use power levels to look at it as well, with each increase in class/divinity doubling from before. A corrupted devil (8*8=64), can be measured the same as a fallen tyrant (4*16=64).

That’s the way I see it and if anyone has any thoughts or opinions abt please comment as I would love to see your thoughts abt it.

Class also increase skills, Devils receive special abilties, and even more for tyrants and above

The increase between a Devil and a Tyrant is way higher than between a Beast and a Devil

isn't every tyrant a previous devil? how come you are making it that they are different saint was a demon when she became a devil it wasn't some skill scratched and new one came and her brain remade it self it literally evolved add new skills and strength and made her more expressive just that it didn't change her whole demeaner just made it shine more a kitten wont become a Pitbull when getting older it will become a cat a fallen tyrant shouldn't dream of being stronger than a corrupts demon maybe a terror or titan are out of this rule but the other should abide by it look at our lovely divines we have sunny him growing to new class wasn't as insane powerup as getting to new rank like getting from demon to devil was crazy but from awakened to master was insane power up pretty much outshined the whole class up he got in that arc

Some dolts really just can’t get it into their heads, just how much classes can affect the strength of a nightmare creature. You guys only considered ranks. Sunny’s shadow already shows you just how huge of an advantage possessing higher class gives. Just becoming a devil gives saint that much power even as if she’s just an ascended rank. How much more for a fallen Tyrant, even Nightmare already gives you an example. Nightmare is only of an awakened rank, but being a Terror enables him to cross the gap and almost stand toe to toe with Saint.

Classes is really just a basic concept and you can easily understand how it correlates to Ranks. Why can’t you guys comprehend that? Is that how low your reading comprehension is? Beast is the most basic and weakest of the classes, Monster gives them a qualitative change and enhances their abilities. A demon will possess much more firepower and abilities while a Devil gets a qualitative change and strange powers, A Terror gets the ability to command an army or a power that can rival one. A Tyrant gets a significant boost in raw power and its army possesses much better quality or quantity. A Titan becomes a living natural disaster and their power becomes more absolute. Their intelligence will also rise alongside their classes.

There, easy enough right? Ranks just determines how much maximum raw power they can possess. An elephant will still become a prey when it is alone against a pack of lions.

I still dont understand the power system. Saint or Sunny can easily defeat a corrupted devil but here sunny is shitting his pants in front of a FALLEN tyrant? Yeah, doesn't make sense that he can defeat a creature one whole Rank above him with ease but shits himself when fighting a cruture just one Class above him, that too with external help

I commented to a comment right above yours, but the way I see it is that a divinity level is more physical increase, and a class is mental, battle iq increase. We can use power levels to look at it as well, with each increase in class/divinity doubling from before. A corrupted devil (6*6=32), can be measured the same as a fallen tyrant (4*8=32). Now yes sunny has beaten a corrupted devil before, but tyrants have been shown to have a higher iq compared to devils. The power system I made works really well with anything lower than great creatures, as in future arcs we are shown how deadly they are, and it’s hard to accurately tell their power as a great beast (16*1=16) is obviously ALOT stronger than a corrupted monster (8*2=16). I only use the numbers for lower tiered creatures excluding Great, cursed, and unholy.

Can a human outrun a lion because he is smart, has skills and can use tools? Maybe.
But can a human (with a handgun) survive long against 2 hungry lions locked in a cage? Absolutely no chance. You get what I'm saying?
Aannd you will find (maybe later idk) that a Tyrant is just a slightly stronger Devil with 'minions'. A Tyrant's main strength is its minions and in this fight it has none.
So technically fighting a Corrupted Devil one-on-one is thousand times harder than fighting a Fallen Tyrant one-on-one.

Tru but we’ve also seen countless times that in 1 on 1 scenarios, sunny has the upper hand thanks to shadow dance, and also the size of the creature itself. The scorpion hybrid (fallen tyrant) was much larger in size and more destructive power due to its size, while the corrupted devil was smaller in size focused more on brute strength. If you’ve read or seen kaiju #8, the of the strongest characters are stronger based on the opponent they fight, one is better against larger opponents, while another is stronger against smaller humanoid opponents. It’s not that either are weak, their strong suits are highlighted by who they fight.

Look man, if i am not wrong, Sunny is a Ascended Devil, his equivalent at that would be a Fallen Devil, and a Fallen Tyrant is just one level above that... This battle should be pretty god damn easy for Sunless no?

Maybe… he barely managed to hold the Goliath back. It may be more of a multiplicative level boost rather than an additive one.

Still, he fights a level-up on the regular. My question is if this sucker is off the coast, where is the sea Saint? Shouldn't this be his job?
