Chapter 20: Deception! (Edited)

“Boom, Boom, Boom…”

Several explosions rang from outside the city.

The Krieg Pirates were bombarding the Gray Terminal a short few hours before the time limit of the main mission.

He had planned for this, and finally, the time had come.

Su Xiao walked through the night and approached the gate.

——————

Outside the city, the Gray Terminal.

At this moment, after the explosions had started, a fire was rising, and a large hill of garbage was burning.

The homeless people who stayed at the Gray Terminal were awakened by the sudden explosions and made to flee from the growing fire.

But when the displaced people reacted and wanted to escape from there, the fire had already spread too far.

The dismal sounds of agonized screams echoed with the continuous explosions and showed a scene straight out of hell.

If there’s a place called hell, this is it.

The members of the Krieg Pirates, after looking at the fire that gradually filled the Gray Terminal, began to rapidly approach the city gate.

They had discussed things with Su Xiao before, and once the Gray Terminal was aflame, they were to immediately head to the city gate, and Su Xiao would send someone to open the gate for them.

To this kind of plan that places his life in the hands of others, of course, Krieg would never agree.

So, after the meeting, Su Xiao sent his friend, Hank, to accompany the Krieg pirates.

At this point, Hank, who was disguised as a pirate, was following Krieg.

“Hurry, the fire will reach us soon!”

Krieg shouted, and he and his men sped up.

Three minutes after the bombing, the Krieg Pirates arrived outside the city gate.

Before arriving at the city gate, these pirates had smiles on their faces. They had already done their part and now only had to enter the city to live happy lives. Especially Krieg himself, who had already dreamt of becoming a noble.

Luxurious accommodation, exquisite food, and women were Krieg’s goals in becoming a noble.

At this point, Krieg even wanted to completely abandon his identity as a pirate.

“Clang, clang, clang.” The sound of Krieg’s armored hand hitting the gate reverberated.

“Open the gates! We are the Krieg Pirates, the ones who set fire to the Gray Terminal.”

After Krieg knocked at the gate, there was dead silence. Besides the sound of the night wind fanning the flames in the close distance, the city was silent.

“Hey, hurry up and open the gate! The fire is about to reach us.”

After continuous silence, Krieg started panicking.

Behind him was a fire that consumed everything, and in front of him was a massive city gate. They were trapped.

It would not be long before they would be burning to death.

“What’s happening? Why won’t they open the gate?”

Krieg’s eyes were red as if he was an angry animal while he turned and stared at Hank.

Hank’s lips twitched. He was sent outside the city by Su Xiao. He was just an ordinary soldier. He didn’t know anything about the king’s intention not to keep his promise.

“No, no, wait, let me try it.”

Hank’s voice was dreary. He seemed to have guessed what was happening.

“Hey, hey! Open the door. It’s me, Hank, a soldier! Byakuya, come out!”

Hank began to shout, and he called Su Xiao without honorifics.

“Byakuya, you bastard! I will kill you!”

Krieg finally understood that he was deceived by Su Xiao, and they were going to be sacrificed.

His eyes were bloodshot as he looked at Hank.

“Throw him into the fire!”

After Krieg spoke these words, the men next to him immediately grabbed Hank, and several people joined forces to throw Hank into the sea of fire that was closing in.

“Ahhhh, Byakuya, curse you!”

The flame began to envelop Hang, and his screams of anguish faded after a few seconds.

Just as the Krieg Pirates were at their most desperate, a low male voice rang from the wall.

“Hey, you, down there! Do you want to live?”

Everyone in front of the city gate was shaking.

“Who is this? Come out.”

Krieg was somewhat irrational and looked at the wall, which was illuminated by the fire. It was a thin middle-aged man.

When Krieg was about to start talking, barrels of explosives were dropped down one after another.

Seeing the dynamite barrels that landed next to them, Krieg let out a horrible scream. As there was a sea of fire just behind him, if the barrels so much as touched the fire, they would all die in a messy explosion.

“Breakthrough the gate, and you will have a little hope to live.”

After saying that, the middle-aged man on the wall turned around and disappeared into the darkness.

After hesitating for less than two seconds, Gin rushed to the barrels of explosives and started placing the barrel at the gate.

Krieg pulled off his black robe, revealing his golden armor. He raised his arm and fired a bullet at the barrels.

“BOOM!”

Because of the explosion, several pirates were hit by falling debris and died.

But it was worth it to Krieg because now, the gate was open.

Behind the rest of the gate, there were several bodies scattered around, which were the soldiers on guard duty.

The Krieg Pirates stepped over the broken gate and marched into the kingdom.

They were angry and didn’t care about anything anymore as they decided to pillage the kingdom.

“Hey, stop!”

Krieg looked at a dark corner with his arms straight and the muzzles on his shoulders pointing forward.

“Don’t shoot. I just saved you.”

The middle-aged man from before walked out of the dark, showing some fear in his eyes.

“Why did you save me? I don’t recognize you.”

Krieg did not stop aiming at him.

“I have some grudge against Byakuya, and the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”

Krieg’s mouth showed a cruel smile.

“Where is Byakuya right now?”

“In the palace, he is accepting the king’s reward. It is said he’s being rewarded with aristocratic status.”

Those words really angered Krieg because it was supposed to be his reward.

“Bam.” The gunshot sounded, the middle-aged man’s chest was pierced, and blood sprayed around. Krieg actually shot his own savior.

“You bastard, you actually dared to throw bombs at me with fire so close. Do you want to kill me?”

After that, Krieg took his people towards the palace. He wanted to kill Byakuya and the king and clean out the castle to make up for today’s losses.

The middle-aged man lay down on the ground, blood seeping from his mouth, as his body kept twitching.

While looking at the Krieg Pirates who were moving towards the palace, the eyes of a middle-aged man began to dim.

It was at this time that a young man with a cigarette in his mouth came out of a dark corner.

“I did it. Give the money to my wife and daughter; I have done as you requested.”

Su Xiao breathed out blue smoke while standing in front of the middle-aged person.

“You did well. The money has been handed over to them.”

“That’s good, thank you, thank you∼.”

After that, the eyes of the middle-aged man had closed completely. He was dead.

The middle-aged man was a criminal with a death sentence who was taken out of prison by Su Xiao. This entire play was only a transaction for him.

Su Xiao paid some money, and the middle-aged person gave his life, which was both fair and unfair at the same time.

Looking at the Krieg Pirates, who were already far away, Su Xiao threw down the cigarette in his hand and stepped on it.

“Krieg, don’t let me down now.”

Su Xiao disappeared back into the night and rushed in the direction of the palace.

    "Boom, boom, boom..."

Several explosions rang out from outside the city. The Krieg Pirates were bombarding the Gray Terminal just a few hours before the main mission's time limit. Su Xiao had planned for this, and the time had finally come.

Walking through the night, Su Xiao approached the gate.

Outside the city, the Gray Terminal was engulfed in flames after the explosions started. A massive heap of garbage was burning, forcing the homeless people who resided there to flee. However, by the time they reacted and tried to escape, the fire had already spread too far.

The sounds of agonized screams mixed with the continuous explosions, creating a scene straight out of hell. If there was a place called hell, this was it.

The members of the Krieg Pirates, after witnessing the fire engulfing the Gray Terminal, began rapidly approaching the city gate. They had discussed their plan with Su Xiao beforehand. Once the Gray Terminal was ablaze, they were to immediately head to the city gate, and Su Xiao would arrange for someone to open it for them.

Krieg would never agree to a plan that placed his life in the hands of others. So, Su Xiao had sent his friend, Hank, to accompany the Krieg Pirates.

"Hurry, the fire will reach us soon!" Krieg shouted, urging his men forward.

Three minutes after the bombings began, the Krieg Pirates arrived at the city gate. Before reaching the gate, they wore smiles on their faces, believing they had done their part and would now enter the city to live happy lives. Krieg, in particular, had already envisioned himself becoming a noble, enjoying luxurious accommodations, exquisite food, and women.

Krieg even entertained the idea of completely abandoning his identity as a pirate.

"Clang, clang, clang." The sound of Krieg's armored hand hitting the gate reverberated.

"Open the gates! We are the Krieg Pirates, the ones who set fire to the Gray Terminal."

After Krieg's pounding on the gate, there was a dead silence. Apart from the sound of the night wind fanning the flames in the distance, the city remained silent.

"Hey, hurry up and open the gate! The fire is about to reach us."

Amid the continuous silence, Krieg started to panic. Behind him, a raging fire consumed everything, and in front of him stood the massive city gate, trapping them. It wouldn't be long before they burned to death.

"What's happening? Why won't they open the gate?"

Krieg's eyes turned bloodshot as he glared at Hank.

Hank's lips twitched. He had been sent outside the city by Su Xiao and was just an ordinary soldier. He didn't know anything about the king's intention to break his promise.

"No, no, wait, let me try."

Hank's voice was somber as he seemed to have guessed what was happening.

"Hey, hey! Open the door. It's me, Hank, a soldier! Byakuya, come out!"

Hank began shouting, addressing Su Xiao without honorifics.

"Byakuya, you bastard! I will kill you!"

Krieg finally realized that he had been deceived by Su Xiao and that they were being sacrificed. His eyes filled with rage as he looked at Hank.

    "Throw him into the fire!"

After Krieg uttered those words, his men immediately grabbed Hank, and with combined effort, they threw him into the encroaching sea of flames.

    "Ahhhh, Byakuya, curse you!"

The flames swallowed Hank, and his anguished screams gradually faded away.

Just as the Krieg Pirates reached their most desperate state, a low male voice resonated from the wall.

    "Hey, you down there!

    Do you want to live?"

Everyone in front of the city gate trembled.

    "Who is this? Show yourself."

Krieg, somewhat irrational, stared at the wall illuminated by the fire, where a thin middle-aged man stood.

As Krieg was about to speak, barrels of explosives were dropped one after another.

Witnessing the dynamite barrels landing near them, Krieg let out a horrific scream. With a sea of fire behind them, any contact with the flames would result in a deadly explosion.

"Break through the gate, and you'll have a slight hope of survival."

After saying this, the middle-aged man on the wall turned around and vanished into the darkness.

Hesitating for less than two seconds, Gin rushed to the explosives and began placing them near the gate.

Krieg removed his black robe, revealing his golden armor. He raised his arm and fired a bullet at the barrels.

    "BOOM!"

The explosion caused several pirates to be struck by falling debris and perish. But to Krieg, it was worth it because the gate was now open.

Beyond the partially destroyed gate, several bodies lay scattered around, remnants of the soldiers who had been on guard duty.

The Krieg Pirates stepped over the broken gate and advanced into the kingdom. Filled with anger and having abandoned all restraint, they embarked on a pillaging spree.

    "Hey, stop!"

Krieg shouted, aiming his raised arms and shoulder-mounted guns at a dark corner.

"Don't shoot. I just saved you."

The middle-aged man from before emerged from the darkness, his eyes showing traces of fear.

"Why did you save me? I don't know you."

    Krieg continued aiming at him.

"I hold a grudge against Byakuya, and the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Krieg's mouth curled into a cruel smile.

    "Where is Byakuya now?"

"He's in the palace, receiving the king's reward. It's said he's being granted aristocratic status."

Those words further infuriated Krieg since the reward was supposed to be his.

"Bam." The sound of a gunshot rang out, piercing the middle-aged man's chest and splattering blood around. Krieg had shot his own savior.

"You bastard! You dared to throw bombs at me when the fire was so close. Did you want to kill me?"

With that, Krieg led his crew toward the palace, intending to kill Byakuya and the king, plundering the castle to make up for their losses.

The middle-aged man lay on the ground, blood flowing from his mouth as his body convulsed.

Meanwhile, a young man with a cigarette in his mouth emerged from a dark corner.

"I did it. Give the money to my wife and daughter; I've fulfilled your request."

Su Xiao exhaled a cloud of blue smoke as he stood before the middle-aged man.

"You did well. The money has been delivered to them."

"That's good, thank you, thank you~."

With that, the middle-aged man's eyes closed completely. He was dead.

The middle-aged man had been a criminal sentenced to death, taken out of prison by Su Xiao. This entire act had been a mere transaction for him. Su Xiao paid a sum of money, and the middle-aged man gave his life. It was both fair and unfair at the same time.

Observing the Krieg Pirates, now in the distance, Su Xiao dropped his cigarette and crushed it underfoot.

    "Krieg, don't disappoint me now."

Su Xiao vanished once again into the night, hurrying toward the palace.
