Chapter 1498: Shocking the Blue Purgators Old Masters |
"He was just a porter, yet he grew in power and strength at a rate that defied every law of cultivation we knew. He showed remarkable potential, especially when the Scarlet Bears first attacked my clan."
Berry recounted the early days—the first time she met him, the way he moved with a confidence that didn’t match his station. Sara then took over, speaking of how she encountered him during his training sessions before he had single-handedly saved the Long clan.
As the stories flowed, confirmed by the earnest gazes and matching details from everyone in the room, Anna and the other masters from the Blue Purgators found their doubts crumbling. William was, by all accounts, a child of this lower world.
And yet, answering that one question only led everyone toward the next, more stressful and far more confusing dilemma: how could someone from a lower realm—a youngster who had never once set foot in the upper realm—possess such terrifyingly specific knowledge?
How did he have the awareness of upper-realm politics, the power to hack a Medium World, and even know things from the upper realm, like their force, before even setting a single foot in?
"The Blue Purgators’ princess in the flesh! What an honour!"
Suddenly, a voice rang out from the distance. Becky was approaching the grand gathering, and tagging along behind her was Sara’s mother. The latter wore a look of profound confusion.
She had accompanied Becky simply to find out what was taking Sara so long to deliver the latest frontline reports, only to arrive in the growing city of the Scorching Lands to find a heart-stopping surprise.
The recognition was instantaneous. Becky was considered a loose ally of the Purgators through mutual enemies, but Sara’s mother was viewed through a much darker lens.
"Wait! She is on our side!" Sara cried out, her body moving instinctively to stand in front of her mother, shielding her from the impending strike.
Lina stepped forward next, followed by the other girls, forming a human barrier between the Purgator experts and the woman they considered a mortal foe. They began to recount an unbelievable tale to the stunned Blue Purgator delegation.
"Are you telling me there is a portal here that links directly to the upper realm? Did William own it? And then he sent someone back to instigate the wrath of that damn Palace, lured them here, and killed Lingerie on this very soil?!! And you honestly expect me to believe this f***ed up story?!!!"
The master who had first recognised Sara’s mother bellowed in disbelief. The tale sounded like the fever dream of a madman. Lingerie was a name feared even in the upper realm; the idea that a lower-realm youth had baited and executed such a figure was a tall tale that strained the limits of their reality.
Lara stepped forward, her voice calm and measured, acting as the stabilising force in the room. "The intentions behind these moves are known only to our Guild Master," she began. "As for the war itself, every master in our guild can vow to its occurrence. It was brutal, blood was spilt in rivers, but we won. He killed Lingerie."
Sara’s mother slowly pushed Sara aside and stepped up, her eyes meeting the Purgator elder’s with a strange, hollow compliance. "That damn kid owns my allegiance now," she added, her voice devoid of its usual venom. "I cannot disobey his orders. I cannot even think of acting against his wishes. For my part, there is no harm to be found here—only his will."
The place fell into a heavy, contemplative silence. The meaning behind her words was chillingly obvious. William hadn’t just defeated a powerful enemy; he had found a way to neutralise her toxic influence and bind her to his service.
As the Purgator masters processed this, they arrived at a logical, yet terrifying, thought. If William could do this to a high-ranking master of an infamous dark master force, what was his ultimate goal?
Did he plan to take over the biggest dark master forces in the upper realm? Was he intending to control the villains of the upper realm from the shadows, using their own power to fulfil his personal wishes?
Thinking about this terrifyingly far-sighted planning made all the old and experienced masters on Anna’s side shiver. The thought was dangerous in itself, yet when coupled with his solemn vow to protect and aid their princess and his sincere, sheer effort to annihilate the Scarlet Bears and save them, it changed everything.
He was saving their world; he was saving the Blue Purgators from an inescapable death looming in the near future. All of this led to one simple and astonishing conclusion: William was like a mastermind setting his pieces on a grand chessboard long before the game had even started!
They had managed to catch only a glimpse of what he planned to do, and he was still currently confined to the shackles of this lower realm. The thought flashed through their minds like lightning: what if such a figure, with such terrifying abilities and foresight, reached the grander stage of the upper realm?
What heaven-shaking changes and influence would he exert up there? What would be the shape of their realm after his ascension, once he had enough time to grow his power and move the hidden pieces he had already placed on the board?
Then, they all turned to one person in particular—the person they knew was fundamentally on their side, even if they were ignorant of her true origins. They looked toward Becky.
Becky merely smiled, a calm and knowing expression that did little to ease their nerves. She nodded in response to the questioning and shocked gazes of the old men standing around Anna.
