Chapter 1724: Aftermath

"You… bitch," Altunia spoke between her screams. "Do you think this is over? This will never be over."

Shara felt the tears flow down her face, mixing with blood from ripped skin on her face. She looked down at the woman with only her left eye, watching her scream at her.

"Do you think you will survive what is coming for you?" the woman asked. "You won't. Everyone already knows what you look like. They already know who to look for. Our spirit is already on its way to tell others of your presence. One way or another, you will die in the end."

Shara stood still for a moment and walked closer to the woman. "Why do you want to kill me?" she asked. "Why does your empire want me dead? Are they scared of my powers?"

The woman snickered between her grunts. "Why should you care? You're going to die anyway."

Shara felt her temperature go up as anger filled her body. She tightened the grip on her spear and felt it ready to be used, for her to use its unknown power.

Shara raised the spear up and stabbed it down on the woman, stabbing her through the neck.

The woman began spasming after being stabbed. Blood gushed out her neck, bubbling as she tried to breathe in from the same hole, ending up drowning in her own blood as it filled her lungs.

She began flailing around and squirming on the ground, and very soon stopped doing so as she finally died.

Shara watched the woman die, feeling her own body become weightless at the very moment as all adrenaline, anger, and every other emotion that had kept her going at this point finally all went away.

Her knees buckled and she fell to the ground, her stomach churning at the sight of what lay before her and at the thought of what she had done.

She had knowingly killed a person. Her body began shaking slowly, unable to process her own feelings at the moment.

Just then, she felt someone grab onto her.

"It's okay," Ning's voice came to her ears, a soft whisper. "It's okay. You did well."

Shara felt even those thoughts she was having go away and nothing but sadness overtook her at that moment. She cried, deeply with pain both on her body and in her heart. She wailed.

Matthew walked over, seeing the corpse of the woman in the distance. He looked toward the girl, feeling sorry for her. No child should have to be in such a situation at such a young age.

He had seen grown men wake up in horror of their own memories at night because of what they had done on the battlefield as adults. A child did not need that.

He couldn't help but silently pray for her.

Shara was quickly brought over to get healed, and the rest were healed as well. They began taking count of all who had survived and were sad to find that 3 of the soldiers had died in the battle.

"It is sad, but the rest of us managed to survive thanks to them and the healer," Matthew said, watching the soldiers work in the aftermath.

"I'm surprised we managed to kill them all," Ning said, turning to look back at the healer. "We sure got lucky, didn't we?"

"I guess so," Matthew said.

It was getting close to nighttime, so they needed to get out of there as soon as they could. They gathered the horses for now, and Ning brought over the cart to get the corpses elsewhere.

They couldn't leave anyone on the side of the road after all. They were thankful to find the horses there and had a few of the corpses taken away in them as well. The carriages were kept clean, however, as they did not want any blood on them.

They had already begun thinking about how they would have to use the carriage for their travels.

Even as night fell, the soldiers continued working. Since they were healed by the woman, they weren't wounded and could just continue working until they were tired.

Ning helped make food, along with Shara who still seemed a bit lost even after coming back from the river. By the time they sat down to eat, it was very much late at night.

"Does it feel weird?" Ning asked Matthew, watching him sit with one pair of arms crossed with the other holding his bowl and spoon.

"Of course," the man said. "It came out of nowhere. I did not think I could ever get Perpetual Awakening."

"Must be fun though," Ning said. "You got new powers, right? Have you tested them yet?"

The man grinned. "Who knows what power I got," he said. "I'll test them later. I need to be careful it's not something that harmful to the others."

Ning nodded. He looked to the side where the golden spear lay next to the black and red spear. "I haven't checked to see what Shara ended up making," he said. "I don't know enough about this Spirit Artifact thing to even begin testing it for now."

"I do," the healer woman said from the side.

"Oh, would you mind telling us then?" Ning asked.

The woman nodded and looked around. "Although, there is something else entirely that we need to talk about first," she said.

"About?" Ning asked.

"About me, my father, and this girl. I need to understand what happened today, and I assume you all want some answers as well," the woman said.

"That I do," Matthew said. "Let's talk then."

"Not here," the woman said. "I'm sorry, but I don't think your men should be in on this conversation right now. If you think they should know what we discussed, you can tell them later. But for now, let us keep it to the four of us."

Matthew thought for a moment and shrugged. "Boys, eat up and go finish your work. We will come back in a bit after we discuss a few things."
