Chapter 506: Kim Hyunsung’s Awakening (1) |
- Advisor Lee Ki-Young.
‘...’
“Let’s gooo… to El Dorado… the city of gold…” I mumbled.
- Advisor Lee Ki-Young!
“Lets… gooo…!” I shouted.
- Advisor Lee Ki-Young!
“Ah…’
I opened my eyes upon hearing a voice calling out to me. I felt like I had slept like a log, but waking up felt unpleasant. However, I clenched my fists upon recalling what had just happened.
‘Did I succeed?’
‘I succeeded...’
I was kind of worried about what would happen afterward, but I thought that it would be good enough to say that I had succeeded without any issues. I wanted to enjoy this a bit longer, but I didn’t have the time to do that. I had to figure out the current situation. I wasn’t that worried because I was sure that I didn’t use up the entire hour, but I still looked outside.
I was in such a hurry that I even forgot the existence of the magic holograms in front of me. The moment I stuck my head outside the window, I immediately saw that the base was in a mess.
It seemed that it had been quite a while since the battle started.
- Roaaaaaaaar!!!
“Hold out!!! Endure it!!!”
“Fire! Fire! Fire! Mages, prepare to use your spells. Do it until you’ve exhausted your mana! Don’t retreat no matter what! Don’t retreat! Damn it!”
“Don’t retreat! Don’t retreat! Do not forget that Goddess Benigoa is still with us! Fight until you cannot! We can’t let the dirty demons take away the light of our continent!”
Craaaaaaaaack!!
Boooooooooooooom!
“Don’t let them come up here! Don’t let them climb over the wall! No matter what…!”
- Aaaargh! You dirty humans!! How dare you!!!
‘Wow, they’re holding out better than I thought.’
I felt a bit relieved. My mind was still hazy, and I wasn’t sure whether I was dreaming or awake. However, the scene in front of me was definitely real, so my hazy mind started to clear up.
I sighed in relief and looked to the side.
I saw Lonovera plugging her nose.
“Miss Lonovera?” I called out.
- Ah, I-I’m sorry, Advisor Lee Ki-Young. I think it’s because I saw something really provocative.
‘What the hell is she talking about?’
I stared at Lonovera again, and I finally realized why she was plugging her nose. She was trying to stop a nosebleed.
However, that wasn’t the only detail that caught my eye.
Her face was really red, and she was trembling.
I couldn’t help but wonder about what she had been doing.
‘So that’s why you managed to come up with those cheesy lines....’
I wasn’t planning on blaming her right now because the plan was a success. The stage she had created on a whim was helpful as well. I nodded when I recalled the terrible performance earlier.
Lonovera looked at me worriedly.
- Were you not… satisfied?
‘What the hell is she talking about? Not satisfied about what? That’s right, damn it. The performance was disappointing.’
“No, it’s nothing. More importantly… please give me a brief overview of the current situation,” I requested.
- Ah… okay, okay. W-Well, it’s been forty minutes since the battle started. The humans are still holding it out. The humans are holding out better than I thought, so I have just been observing the battle.
“Is Hyun-Sung still missing?” I asked.
- Yes. I think it’ll take more time.
“How long?” I asked.
- It won’t be that long. Unlike you… t-that human has been unconscious for a very long time, but you don’t have to worry too much. It’s highly likely that he’ll come back to his senses in an hour at the latest. Of course, it could be sooner than that. Usually, it will take about a day, but since he’s a high-level human…
‘One hour…’
Could they hold out until then? I couldn’t say for sure, but it should be possible.
It was impressive how they were pushing the demons back using the standard siege warfare tactic. I could feel their desperation.
They were fighting as one, but Park Deok-Gu was standing out.
‘That pig is pretty impressive.’
- Let’s hold out for as long as we can! We just have to hold out a bit longer until reinforcements from other bases arrive!
It was difficult to explain, but it felt like the atmosphere had changed because of him—no, it actually changed. He was emitting an unknown buff that enveloped the entire army.
I wasn’t really expecting much from him, but it was clear that he had grown a bit.
He still wasn’t that good in combat, but the way he stood in the midst of the army and raised the morale of the troops while trying to stop the advance of the demons reminded me of a paladin in a holy war.
No, we were actually in a holy war because the ongoing battle was between the continent and the demons trying to take over the continent.
Cha Hee-Ra was fighting a hard-liner high priest on the same level as her, and it was the same for the others. I couldn’t help but feel proud seeing the Blue Guild grouped up and taking care of an entire defensive line.
An hour ago, a few of the guild members looked confused, but now, they were fighting with renewed vigor. I was pleased by their efforts. Of course, I was still worried, but I was worried about the fact that the situation was progressing too smoothly.
‘There needs to be some sort of crisis…’
“This could be a bit more dramatic…” I mumbled.
At this rate, the Blue Guild and the troops at the 17th base would succeed at repelling the demons without Kim Hyun-Sung’s help. Unfortunately, it would be their mistake if they were thinking that way.
The battle continued, and I noticed that the troops of the 17th base were getting pushed back. It was all because Donovan had finally joined the battle. After all, Donovan was a named demon, even among the 27th Legion.
Honestly, I was getting tired of seeing him charge his way through the battlefield. With every swing of his fist, dozens of people would fly away, and every time he moved his feet, the surroundings would tremble.
I was sure that he was a sore eye in the eyes of the people defending the 17th base.
The 17th base should create a special task force soon, but I figured that they didn’t have the luxury to pull out and retreat because I could see Park Deok-Gu stepping up to stop Donovan from advancing.
He wasn’t there to win. Park Deok-Gu was there to hold out.
The way he raised his shield to block Donovan’s attacks reminded me of David when he stood in front of Goliath. Park Deok-Gu was tiny compared to Donovan, so I couldn’t imagine how overwhelmed he had to be feeling right now.
Donovan punched while Park Deok-Gu blocked the punch.
Park Deok-Gu had already abandoned his sword to focus on defending, but he still looked anxious, which made me nervous as well. However, I could see that he was doing a good job holding out.
- How fun! Human! You’re fun! You scummy human!
- Whooo… whooo…!
Park Deok-Gu was obviously not in the best condition.
Elena and Sun Hee-Young had combined their powers to buff him, but there was still a clear difference in strength.
I was sure that Park Deok-Gu himself knew that his body was breaking down and his injuries were accumulating, despite that, he remained steadfast.
I couldn’t help but feel sad seeing Park Deok-Gu standing in front of Donovan.
Whenever he couldn’t receive holy power, he would recover by drinking potions. When it came to attacks that he couldn’t block, he would dodge them by rolling away.
The best way to describe Park Deok-Gu right now would be the words—tenacious and persistent.
- Cough! Cough!
Park Deok-Gu was coughing up blood. I was sure that his organs couldn’t handle the pressure anymore. However, Park Deok-Gu didn’t even stop to wipe the blood off of his face as he stood in front of Donovan.
I could see that they were trying to isolate Donovan using Park Deok-Gu for the sake of reaping profits in the other sectors of the battle, but their method of isolating Donovan was too cruel.
Park Deok-Gu had to endure immense pain and stand up again and again.
I wasn’t sure, but I reckoned that Park Deok-Gu had volunteered for this. Otherwise, he couldn’t have managed to remain standing for so long.
‘Donovan. I need to get rid of that bastard as soon as possible…’
I couldn’t help but be curious about what Kim Hyun-Sung was doing. I looked at Lonovera, thinking that perhaps Kim Hyun-Sung had fallen asleep again. However, the succubus next to me simply shook her head and remained quiet.
The tides were starting to turn in the other sectors as well. Cha Hee-Ra had to go berserk to keep up with the high priest that she was fighting, and Elena was also running out of holy power.
Meanwhile, Park Deok-Gu was still doing his job, even though the line was getting pushed back.
Unfortunately, the situation had gotten to the point that a time-out was necessary.
I couldn’t wait any longer.
‘Shit, I can’t appear in a situation like this.’
All of a sudden, there was an abrupt change in the multiple magic holograms floating in front of me. A magic hologram was displaying nothing but static.
‘Uh…’
I reckoned that there was something wrong with the familiar in Kim Hyun-Sung’s room.
The demon in the situation room was confused, but I smiled because the disappearance of the familiar only meant one thing—he had finally woken up.
‘He’s hereee! He’s hereeeee!!!’
“Please give me an overall view of the battlefield,” I requested.
- Okay.
It was dramatic, and it couldn’t get any more dramatic than this. To be exact, a dazzling light burst from Kim Hyun-Sung’s room, and it swept past everyone.
The battle momentarily lulled, and everyone looked up.
‘Nice…’
- He’s back…
Park Deok-Gu muttered while lying on the ground.
Donovan also looked up at the sky, seemingly confused.
- Guild Master…
Jo Hye-Jin muttered.
Kim Ye-Ri looked down and started crying like a typical heroine while the blood-soaked Park Yeon-Joo smiled.
The despairing guild members yelled and started reorganizing the defensive lines once again. The troops realized that things were about to change, so they mustered as much strength as they could to take a step forward.
The situation had changed. The following scene was a cliche, so an inspirational piece of music should start playing right now.
‘El Dorado…!’
- What the… what’s going on?
‘This is a classic!’
- What’s going on? What’s… going on?!
‘This is very nice. That dialogue is perfect for you, Actor Donovan.’
Donovan had just uttered the line of a typical villain. Confused, he extended his hand toward Park Deok-Gu, but…
- Aaaaaaargh!
His arm abruptly flew into the air.
- My aaaaaaarm!!!!!
Even his screams sounded typical…
Park Deok-Gu smiled faintly at the sight.
- You’re late, bro…
The figure nodded.
- I’m sorry.
The fully awakened regressor was standing next to Donovan.
It was the perfect royal cliche.
Kim Hyun-Sung looked exactly like the protagonist of a typical Shonen comic that I couldn’t help but cry out to myself. “Damn, he looks so fuckin’ cool… Shit…!”
I felt like we were about to break twenty million dollars at the box office.
