Chapter 411: I’m glad. Light Kiyoung has descended. (2) |
It was the perfect time to start talking. We managed to overcome a dangerous situation, but we were still at a disadvantage. The mages and Dialigua were out of mana, especially Dialugia because she used all of her mana on Breath to destroy the mana surrounding the Semi-Mythic meteor.
I was sure it was the same for Kim Hyun-Sung. He was superhuman—yes, but he cleaved a meteor in half in addition to using his stamina on the battlefield.
He couldn’t be compared to an ordinary person, but there was no way he wasn’t tired after everything, so it would be better for him not to use any more of his powers in the meantime.
‘I only have one Light Bomb Potion left…’
The allied forces were still surrounded by the enemy. The enemy mages were also at their limits, so we weren’t completely at a disadvantage, but we were still in a bad situation. I wasn’t sure if this method would work, but it wouldn’t hurt to start talking since the war was currently at a lull.
‘Even my surroundings don’t look so bad.’
The envoy of the gods was in the middle of the falling lights. Friend or foe, everyone was looking at the lights falling from the sky.
I spoke cautiously again, and I saw everyone looking at me.
- I’ll say it again! Everyone! Stop fighting! My dear Republicans! Please lay down your weapons!
“It’s the comeback of the Goddess of Benigoa!”
“Father Lee Ki-Young…”
“Father Lee Ki-Young! It’s dangerous!”
The allies voiced their worries, but the Republic’s reaction was more important than their reactions. I started looking around and saw that some of them seemed to be hesitating while some of them looked at me like I was spouting nonsense. They received prior training, so most of them stared at me like I was bullshitting. I understood that there was no way my words would reach them, but I was sure that they would be able to hear me at the very least because the war was currently in a lull.
- Please lay down your weapons. It’s useless to keep fighting. Continuing this war will only harm both sides. This fight isn’t for all of you—for your benefit or for the benefit of your families. What are you fighting for? What’s the reason you’re standing there?
“...”
- All of you! Aren’t you here to protect your country? This fight stained with madness isn’t for the Republic. The Sacred Democratic Country has never invaded the Republic, and the commanders of the Republic know this better than anyone else. As the envoy chosen by Benigoa and Elune, if I’m lying, then I shall receive divine punishment. We didn’t invade the Republic, and they are lying to you. Open your eyes. Open your eyes! Open your eyes and see the truth!
There was no reaction.
- The ones we really need to fight are smiling while watching all this. The demon summoner Jin Cheong is using the Republic as his shield, and he sent all of you to the battlefield. He started this war between the Republic and the Democratic Country for his own safety and to wreak havoc on the continent. This war is what the evil forces want. We are not each other’s enemies—our enemies are the threats encroaching on the continent. We have to join forces to face those threats!
“...”
- If humanity does not unite, then it will be impossible to stop those threats. Please lay down your weapons, everyone. We no longer need to fight. Our enemies have conspired to create this war, so there is nothing for us to gain from this war!
I had an idea why no one was reacting to my words. They were definitely thinking that they would be under my spell the moment they reacted to my words, but I was sure that it wasn’t the only reason.
The Republican soldiers weren’t really getting swayed by my words. The priests on their side would be swayed somewhat, but the priests didn’t really matter.
It hadn’t been that long since the soldiers fought to claim each other’s lives, so there was no way my words would quickly extinguish the fire that was burning in their hearts. If the goddess’ mirror were still functioning, then there was a chance that I could persuade them, but talking without displaying the facts wouldn’t convince anyone.
If this continued, a small incident could easily exacerbate things.
The people around the demon summoner were probably thinking that they didn’t need to respond to my words. Of course, there was also a chance that they thought my words weren’t worthy of a response, but I continued talking despite all that.
- We have to lay down our swords and join hands for the things that are more important than this war. As an ally of the Republic, the Sacred Democratic Country will never take the initiative to point its sword at you. The history of conflict will disappear after this war, and I’ll work hard to make sure that it will happen. Please lay down your weapons. Today’s incident is the first step, and it’s a big step toward putting an end to the history of continuous wars. Please stop fighting. Stop fighting!
The issue was I had no idea what kind of incident would exacerbate things.
- We must join hands for a bigger cause. Please lay down your weapons!
While I was talking, an arrow suddenly flew toward me.
‘That bastard…!’
I quickly mustered my mana, and even though I had no idea where it came from, it was pretty powerful. I snapped my finger and quickly put up a wall, but with a boom, I was pushed back. I didn’t roll on the ground pathetically, but I was sure that was enough to exacerbate things.
Right there and then, there was an explosion from the enemy formation. I wasn’t sure if they were planning to do something, but everyone started to get worked up when they heard that explosion.
“Shit!”
“Don’t stop! It’s a trap!”
“Father Lee Ki-Young! You dirty bastards…!”
“What are the mages doing?!”
“Hold up your weapons! Prepare for battle! All units prepare for battle!”
“Don’t get pushed back! Hold out! Hold out!”
“Protect Father Lee Ki-Young! Cast protection spells on Father Lee Ki-Young!”
Many orders started flying around, but in a nutshell, chaos fell on the battlefield. The enemy tried their best to break through the allied forces, and the latter did their best to maintain formation.
‘This isn’t good…’
If the war continued, it would cause massive damage to both sides, and it didn’t really matter which side would win because the neighboring nations would definitely take advantage of this.
The allied forces were at a disadvantage, and I didn’t really like to have glory scars.
“Ah!”
“You dirty servants of the demon!”
“Bastards! I won’t let you live! Shoot the arrows! Arrows!”
- Please stop fighting! It’s unnecessary to fight anymore. My dear Republicans! You’re all being tricked. We must not create a situation worse than this because that’s what the forces of evil want! I know it’s difficult, but please stop! Let go of your hatred and rage so that we can drive away the madness. We must join hands and walk forward together!
“Kill them! Shit!”
- Please stop fighting! Everyone! There’s no reason to shed innocent blood anymore!
“Don’t get pushed back!”
- Please stop fighting! Everyone! Stop! Fighting!
“You dirty Republican dogs!”
“You puppets of the Democratic Country! I won’t forgive you!”
I shouted with all my might, but no one was listening to me anymore amidst the madness and the chaos on the battlefield. The spies among the soldiers shouted louder and louder to exacerbate the chaos. There were people hidden amongst the soldiers who were intentionally working the soldiers up, but I couldn’t capture all of them.
‘Smart move. Shit.’
I was sure I would have done something similar if I were Jin Cheong because he was in an advantageous situation. He probably felt that he had obtained a desirable result by completely cutting off our communication channels. It was unfortunate, and if the atmosphere of the battlefield had calmed down a bit more, then we could have avoided another fight.
Now, the situation had gone beyond the road of no return.
‘Shit. This isn’t working out…’
I felt anxious, and I could already deduce what the demon summoner was thinking.
‘It’s over.’
Or…
‘We just have to keep going.’
Perhaps even…
‘It’s the final blow.’
His hidden cards didn’t bring great results, but I was sure that he was thinking that he still profited a lot from his hidden cards.
‘He’s probably thinking that way. I’m sure of it.’
It was a bit early, but it was possible that he was already celebrating his victory.
Of course, that was until the arrival of the gift I had prepared for him…
- Please stop fighting!
My head started hurting as I kept shouting, but when I saw Lee Ji-Hye’s signal, I found it hard to contain my laughter. It was happening earlier than I thought, but I was still happy to see it happening. I wanted to laugh out loud, so it was regretful that I couldn’t do so.
After all, I wasn’t supposed to know what was happening out there. My role was to act as if I were ignorant, while the masked scum Jin Cheong was cognizant of everything. I was sure our lovely regressor was biting his lips right now, and I saw how the faces of some of the soldiers turned pale at the sight of it.
“You dirty bastards…!”
“You demonic Republic bastards! How could you wear the mask of humans and do something like this?!”
“You dirty scums! Bastards!”
“Demon summoner…”
“What kind of bullshit…”
- Shit! Prepare for battle! Prepare for battle!
The enemy was surprised by the sudden change, but they would soon realize why I was shouting ‘prepare for battle’ at my troops.
There was a detachment a bit distant from the battlefield. At first glance, it became clear that the detachment was the Republican reinforcement from the Misty Forest, and of course, I wasn’t the one who brought them here. Ah! I brought them here unofficially, but Demon Summoner Jin Cheong was the one who brought them here officially.
“T-the undead?”
“The undead?”
The detachment was composed of undead troops wearing the armor and hoisting the banner of the Republic.
- You’ve finally shown your true colors! Your dirty demon summoner!
Demon Summoner Jin Cheong had sacrificed his soldiers in the Misty Forest, and he brought them over here as reinforcements after turning them into members of the undead.
- God will not forgive you! You dirty demon!
The masked scum had committed an unforgivable sin against the gods and man.
Demon Summoner Jin Cheong.
The arrival of the undead army caused chaos among the soldiers on the battlefield.
