Chapter 613: Great Hero Thorn Queen |
"That’s settled then. I doubt your big sis could do anything, but fairness makes things simpler."
After cooking up the scenario that the public would hear of, Aurora went ahead and let the final two light marbles find their own way into the Thorn Queen’s body.
Although she was knocked unconscious, making it possible to accept the marbles herself, it didn’t really matter.
After all, her Enigma had already attempted to resist the light marbles once and was thoroughly wrecked in return. As such, it could no longer flare, so further adverse effects could be avoided.
"Remember, exhibit anything untoward, and you will not live to regret it. Furthermore, trying to link it to me wouldn’t work, so don’t let yourself fool you into sacrificing yourselves like Heroes. You both know that’s not what you are."
The way Aurora’s safety pin worked was pretty simple.
As long as they didn’t cross the boundary she had set, it would only be there as a reminder, but once they did, a silent death would follow.
The cause of death would be a ruptured heart, but the culprit could never be caught. Light Enigma was formless to begin with; once it finished its job, it would immediately dissipate without a trace.
Besides, who in their right mind would dare suspect the Hero of Light herself?
Even as normal people, almost everyone was aware of the possible complications following careless Gate attacks.
"Yes, I value my life very highly, so I will make sure things go as peacefully as possible."
"Good. Don’t forget, I’m always watching."
Once again, Aurora reminded the Thorn Duo of how terrifying her ability was.
On top of the long range and the capability of switching Enigma properties, she could also use it as an observation anchor.
Constantly viewing things from her point of view, as well as the Thorn Trio’s, would lead to a torturous headache.
However, with the addition of simple but specific triggers that would automatically alert her, she would only need to check whenever things appeared risky.
"We know."
Viva was still half in shock due to Vera’s harsh actions, but she still did as she was told.
Hoisting up Yvonne, she put her intact arm over her neck for support, before sprouting some vines and using them to wrap the other arm into some sort of a makeshift arm sling.
"Go ahead."
With the last bit of preparation finally done, Aurora finally gave the Thorn Duo permission to head toward the portal.
’Finally.’
It was only then that Vera finally let out an internal sigh of relief as she glanced at her big sister.
Yvonne’s methods were effective, but they only worked when she dealt with a specific type of enemy; someone like Aurora was like a solid wall she could never cross.
Because of her reliance on compatibility wins, she ended up turning extremely fragile upon meeting her first grave loss, which had almost caused the collective death of their little family.
Despite that...
"Medic! Medic!"
As per the script, Viva was the first to rush out of the portal, dragging out the injured Thorn Queen.
"Hurry up, big sis is in a very bad shape!"
Motivated by the hope that Yvonne could still be saved, she faithfully fulfilled her role.
"What happened?!"
After going through the same scenario over so many Gates, the disheveled paramedic made sure to stay close to the Gate’s entrance to react as quickly as possible so that his cover wouldn’t be blown.
"Quickly, get the gurney over here!"
However, not even in his wildest dream would he have expected that the notorious Thorn Queen would be the one coming out like this.
"It was a sneak attack! A terrible monster was trying to sneak attack Aurora, but big sis took the hit for her, hurry up and do something!"
’What bullshit...’
As an inside man, the paramedic was someone who had thoroughly read the Thorn Trio’s files.
Sure, they had been boasted as Great Heroes to deceive the public, but there was simply no way that they would actually be that heroic!
"Alright, put her down."
Still, as someone planted in a common position just to oversee things on the Healer’s end, the paramedic had no authority to question the nonsense that Viva was shouting.
In any case, it was someone else’s job to worry about something like this.
As a ’paramedic’, all he had to do was strap her down to the gurney and send her to the Healer.
’Trash.’
That being said, that didn’t stop him from being judgmental.
To have been given such an easy task, yet end up the one being injured despite everything else going smoothly...
’They really hand out S-ranks to anyone as long as they are old enough.’
Whoever gave them double S ratings on the potential bracket was really being generous.
"The Thorn Queen! Even the Thorn Queen is injured this time!"
"When is this madness going to end?! Let them have some rest already!"
With Yvonne providing a proper excuse, Aurora marched out from behind, appearing to have only been slightly roughed up this time.
However, the expression on her face wasn’t relaxed. Rather, it was very grim.
"Our Aurora is in much better shape thanks to her. The Thorn Queen is truly a Great Hero!"
"They have already been through so much together. Everyone in New Team Aurora is definitely a Great Hero!"
This was a possibility that Yvonne could have never considered when she was making her final gambit.
That, ironically enough, the legacy that she would end up leaving behind would be that of a great Hero. The kind of person that the Thorn Queen both hunted and belittled the most back in her heyday.
’Had she not lost her sanity, I wonder what kind of expression she would have right now?’
Having been watching the show from the sidelines, Kara could barely keep her curiosity to herself.
Most people would consider it great praise, but what about Yvonne?
Would she have felt insulted to be lumped together with her favorite prey? Or would she have used that moment to stroke her ego for perfecting her disguise even further?
Unfortunately, an answer to these questions could no longer be provided...
