Chapter 55: Golden opportunity or?

Alex could tell that the hateful person was not going to make any special concessions for her. So she fidgeted with her fingers and began talking, her voice barely a whisper.

"That thing you told Mia… I am ready." This was the best that she could speak out despite steeling her nerves.

Come on, at least now he should show more interest? She bit her lips in frustration and looked at the guy and for a moment just as she expected his expression did falter.

"What are you talking about?" Liam was genuinely surprised and decided to confirm it.

When this woman spoke to him over the phone, he had assumed that it was something about a field boss or a dungeon. He hadn't expected this.

He had an inkling that they were going to face a terrible fate in the future so he had mentioned a way out that would be beneficial to him as well, but he didn't expect things to move so fast.

In fact, he hadn't expected them to even think about this until much later when they became absolutely desperate without any other course of action.

But she was already here…?

"Are you serious? You know what I am talking about!" Alex chewed her lips out.

She already knew how this was going to go happen, but she had no other choice except to put up with this hateful guy's attitude.

Hmm… Liam scratched his head, engrossed in his thoughts. He had thought that everything started after the trial phase ended but could there be something going on now?

Looking at him hesitate, Alex became impatient. "What? I also have an S grade affinity. Am I not good enough?"

Liam sighed, silently lifting the anvil and placing it on the workspace. It was not that he didn't pity the woman in front of him.

As someone who had once been desperate for even the smallest of a chance to change his own fate, he empathized with her, but everything was just beginning.

He didn't have the luxury to help a random stranger. Besides, when things turned for the worse, the people that he helped today might turn on him.

This was his second chance and his only chance. He couldn't just risk it all for nothing.

Liam remained silent for a while and then took out the other item he had purchased from the black market.

He handed it over to Alex. "This is a binding contract of sorts. You are right. I can indeed make you stronger, much stronger but before that, you would have to sign this."

"Think about this and come back when you are ready."

"Huh? What is this?" Alex sighed in relief as she scanned the parchment of paper which had some words inscribed on it.

She didn't really care much about the contract. She assumed that it was perhaps a gold or cash or property contract. If it was reasonable she had no problem agreeing to it.

"Whatever this is… I am fi… wait a second." It took a minute for her to read and understand the words as they had been written in a weird calligraphy style.

"Hey what is this?" Alex looked up in shock.

"I am supposed to do everything you tell me? I am not supposed to harm you? Act against you or even have the intention of harming you? This is ridiculous!"

"And how can this bloody game even implement these things? I mean this is just basically a slave contract. Are you kidding me?"

"Are you purposefully trying to humiliate me? I only came here so that we can both get mutual benefits. You were the one who suggested this in the first place, remember?"

Liam heard her words but he continued to remain calm and took out some of the iron ores he had. He stacked them neatly on the table.

Though it was not written clearly on the contract with dedicated labels, Alex wasn't wrong. He had indeed given her a slave contract.

So he cooly explained it to her again, at least as much as he could.

"My intention is not to humiliate you. It is the opposite. This is an opportunity that perhaps you wouldn't get again. So take it with you and think about it."

"You don't have to accept it or reject it right now. Take as much time as you want. Your life might depend on it."

Alex silently listened, not knowing what to respond.

On one hand, this was extremely humiliating. On the other hand, the person in front of her was saying words with so much confidence that she couldn't simply ignore them as random nonsense.

She stood dazed for a second but then shook her head, letting out a deep breath. What opportunity? Why would her life depend on it? Wasn't this all just random nonsense?

The pervert just probably wanted to do some role playing as slave and master. Fuck this. Why did I even think he would help me in this first place?

She was hesitant about this from the beginning and now this settled things.

She looked at the man in front of her, tossing the ores one after the other into the smelting fire. He was just doing his own thing, completely ignoring her.

Damn it! What was I thinking? I don't need anyone's help. Especially this person's help! She let out a deep breath and turned around, leaving the contract parchment behind.

She had almost walked out when Liam's voice once again sounded.

"I will be busy these next few days. Do not contact me again to do some sort of negotiation. This is it. These are my terms. I will not change my mind."

"And if you still bother me, then you will only be forcing my hand to cut ties with the three of you completely."

The woman who was already bubbling with rage clenched her fists, wanting to throw something at the bastard, but she continued walking out.

"Now is not the time. I need to think about Mia first. Hmph. But one day or the other I will surely teach this guy a lesson!"

i dont get the drama over the slave thing, it's not like he forced her to become a slave or something he gave her terms and she has a choice whats the problems here? there no need to justify, defend the mc

its her choice and responsibily if she want his help enough to become his slave its her decision and has nothing to with morality she is not an african captive in middle ages which captured and forced into slavery

everything has a price, what she want can be achieved in many ways but what she will need to sacrafice to achieve them is the price, this is one route and the price of taking this route

What? Just cuz someone is in a situation that you can understand, you need to help them without worrying about the consequences? Like mc said today it might benefit him helping her but tomorrow it could be her that plunge a knife in his back.

Exactly, if you read enough of these ressurector novels you will see the reason quite a few of these MCs "started over" was because someone they believed was an ally stabbed them in the back over greed or envy.

But he is still shit for asking her to be a FCKING! SLAVE! You guys underestimate the word "Slave" too much. He can ask for a contract but a slave contract? He is definitely a shitty character. If he is worried about getting backstab then do a contract where they can't backstab you, why add "do everything isay" in the contract? Don't justify him.

Lived through hell doesn't mean other people have to live through hell too just because he/she have "potential" of being your enemy. As I said in my first comment, if he is worried about betrayal then make a contract where they can't betray you, without "doing anything you say'. SLAVE contract is just way too far. To justify that "Just because he lived through hell" is the most laughable thing I heard.

Well the contract makes it so she can't betray him anyway and it's not like she doesn't deserve that. 1st she expects that her looks and wealth will get her everything, like when she was surprised Liam said he was busy because most guys wouldn't say that. She is spoilt. And also being a bitch to the point were she tries to blackmail him my taking something he needs(at the pet store when she bought everything and was smug about it) and plus we all know the mc isnt going to do anything dodgy. Not to mention he has helped her many times before that right there should be proof enough that he is actually gonna help her

again as I said, if he don't want them to betray them then make a contract about it but not slave contract lol as for the girl being spoilt yes I agree with that but remember what she's offering. She's offering her innocence for her friend. Yes her friend.. not her own. And that's her innocence.

Like I said already the slave contract makes it so she can't betray him anyway. Also no one gives a shit about her friend or why she's doing this. Because 1st of all we know her friend is gonna live a better life cause she is strong. And 2 the author made it abundantly clear that this is an MC that doesn't give a shit about people. He said himself that he gave up on the human race. If he was such a Saint he wouldn't be taking other people unique and hidden quests that they were supposed to find. Destroying someone's life and making it so they are just average or worse like everyone else. That's a much shittier thing to do compared to saying no to a spoilt rich bitch that's out to get him

Is slave contract the only way for you to get someone not betray you? Lmao if that's so then there should be a lot of slave in our society right now. As I said before, slave contract is too far. If he wants them to not betray him then make a contract of it without the line "do anything I say" in the contract. Seriously you guys are taking slavery a bit too lightly

1st I think he put the "do everything I say" part so he can get something out of this deal. For example if she reaches her goal that she's aiming for, she's gonna have a lot of power and wealth. So if the MC every need anything he can call her and ask her. He can't really trust her since, like I said before, this bitch is out to get him. And secondly, the MC is evil but he's not that evil so abuse that part of the contract. Alex, for some reason just thinks really badly of the MC and that's clouding her judgement, like when she said he was trying to keep the dungeon to himself when her, rey, Mia and Liam went to that bird dungeon. And how she's always calling him a pervert.

She doesn't know the MC is not evil enough to "abuse" the contract doesn't she? So her reaction is in the right. Imagine someone saying this to you "I'll make you rich but become my slave" that doesn't sound good, right? You'll get mad right? As a person with self esteem, her answer is in the right. As for you people justifying the MC just because he lived through hell is laughable. If he really doesn't want to abuse the contract then he should've explain it. "Become my slave but don't worry I won't abuse you, I just don't want you to betray me in the future" isn't hard to say. As a trash guy who just luckily regressed, he's way too proud and looked at people like ant forgetting where he come from and what he was. A bad character I'd say.

OK try putting yourself in the MC's shoes. He has no use for money or whatever she was offering. This is one of the only ways he can actually benefit the deal. If he sympathises with Alex and take that part of the contract put what does he really achieve. Helping a spoiled bitch with her life. Well first of all the MC isn't that nice. And second we don't want him to be. No one likes this character (and I know you don't either) so if he helps her, what would that do other than annoy us. Also whatever you we saying about the MC being an asshole to people and having a shit backstory is just your opinion. You sound like you want an MC that's nice to everyone and helps everyone who's in need and is super friendly, what so we can get more characters like Alex. Now you can't be that naive. Everyone in this game are trying backstab each other. Their a bunch of selfish assholes. And it will only get worse when the game becomes reality. What will being friendly and helping people do for him then, time were he could have spent training. P.S. dude at this point you this just reads like the ranting of a guy who's not gonna like the novel no matter what happens. You know someone's hit rock bottom when they side with the least like character in the whole novel over the MC. At this point I suggest you just drop this novel. It's not for you

Already dropped it awhile back. My point is, I don't like the MC and that doesn't mean I like the girl either. I'm just commenting how laughable the people are on justifying him. Yes the girl is a shit but if you look at this in others perspective, the MC is much worst. The only saving grace the MC have is we can see his perspective but looking it the other way, all the girl is saying is right. First, he said having sex in-game on a girl without explaining anything and the girl called him pervert for that, is that wrong? No. Second, when they are doing the dungeon and about to face the boss, he made them leave without explaining and he went out of the dungeon like nothing happen. Again, without explaining so the girl accused him of hoarding the drop. And yet again, she's right in her perspective because HE DIDDNT explain anything. Third, with all of that misunderstanding, he asked the girl to be his slave. Now tell me, if you are the girl, will you accept that? I like different type of MCs. Villain minded, good minded, anything. But a trash who just luckily got regress and acting cool which is cringe but in reality is just a hypocrite is not my cup of tea.

It must have been a long time since u read this because when he left the dungeon he explained to them why. Not only did he do that. But he made up for it by telling them the secret to getting a lot of skills. Fair enough about the in game sex thing that was a bit weird and he should have given an explanation. And if I was Alex I would at least think about it. Since this guy has helped Alex many times before and this deal would have helped her out a lot too. And if I said no I would give a better excuse than "he probably wants to do master and slave role-playing" because that is just a pathetic excuse. And what has Alex done to repay those favours. All she's done is become unlikeable by the MC and the readers. Also the MC isnt trying to be "cool" he's just trying live a better life that he did before and become the best. If he really wanted to be "cool" he would do things like always trying his hardest to stay at the top of the leaderboard of highest levels or something meaningless like that

Nonono, you might be confused. He never explain why he made them leave because the reason he told them to leave was the penalty of "death" which he can't explain at the moment, so the girl accused him of hoarding and that's the reason why he gave them info on skills. And the "help/info" he gave to the girl's friend is even about sex. As for favour, it's them who found the dungeon in the first place. I'm not saying the girl is likeable but her character is much better than the MC. And she's not even a good character. That speaks volume on the MCs character. Atleast the girl are willing to sacrifice her innocence for her friend.
And now that I think about it, the girl didn't even do shit against the MC. In the dungeon she did well, she only bad mouth the MC for hoarding and being a pervert. You're right, it's been a while since I've read this, What is hateful about her I wonder 🤔

(Oh I might have been mistaken then) at the pet shop she bought all the pets to blackmail him. She said herself that she was planning to use the MC. She's always bad mouthing him and stop only when she need his help. I can go on but you get the general idea. Also to be honest there's no point in arguing with you since you just don't like the MC. I could argue that everything your saying now is just biased. 1 of the reasons I know this is because your saying Alex is a better character than the MC. That's just outrageous. OK fair enough the MC isnt perfect, he isn't the best I've seen and he can use some work, a lot of work. But saying ALEX is better than him. I think the hate for the MC is clouding your logic

The reason she's better than the MC is because she know where she stands. She is a shit character, a fodder. The MC on the other hand doesn't. He's bad at being good and He's bad at being bad. He is a questionable character. A character who change on the whim of the author. If that's not a bad character the what is a bad character. A shit character is still much better than that. If I'm being biased because I hate the MC then isn't that the same the other way around. Being biased because you like him that you don't see how bad it is.

Like I said before I don't think the MC is perfect, he has a lot to work on but saying Alex is better than him is not true. You say she knows where she stands, as fodder. But she doesn't know that. Otherwise she wouldn't be blackmailing the protagonist and giving him a hard time. Also the MC isnt good or bad. He isn't as simple as that. He's good when he needs to be and bad when he need to be. For example In the coming chapters he teams up with some people who see he is strong. And after Completing the dungeon he gives them most of the stuff. Even the rare equipment. And just previous to that he was testing these guys to see if they were rude and obnoxious just so he can't kill them in real life for a quest. That's not good nor is it bad. He does whatever the f#ck he wants. And in a way that makes it more spontaneous and exciting for the story because you don't know what he's gonna do next. I think that's better than some silly good or evil bullshit

In short, he has no character, why waste more words. His character is on the whim of the author. As for the girl being nuisance to the MC, isn't the proved that she's knows where she stands? She's being true to her character, a Fodder who annoys the MC in earlier chapter. While the MC is lost in the jungle with his character. I bet he only helps that party you talked about is because there is a "girl" there who will be his sooner or later.

No there isn't these guys have one girl healer and they don't even interact that much he only really interacts with the leader and no so much with the others. And I disagree with your statement about him being a bad character, your reasoning for that is because he doesn't know whether he's good or bad. But that's just too simple. I don't think the author is bad enough to change the character on a whim. Otherwise the novel wouldn't be as popular as it is. As for Alex. She doesn't know she's fodder. She's always chasing the MC, she tries make deals with him and tries uses him and she's always bad mouthing him behind his back. That right there shows she's a nuisance. People like Ray and Mia are fodder. They don't contact the MC and they have limited interaction. Heck they don't even have that much screen time. But this lady seriously doesn't know how to stay in her lane

Isn't that the epitome of a fodder? A character who's always in the Mc's way but will get rid of sooner or later? And what I meant when I said "she knows where she stands" is not literal she knows she's a fodder. What I meant by that is, she's doing what her character should be doing. For example, a small villain character should be doing what a villain character should do.

"Otherwise the novel wouldn't be as popular it is" no I won't trust it's reader who couldn't even see what's the problem on this chapter at all.

"It just means we're willing to give it a chance to redeem itself" is the same as admitting it as bad. I've never said anything about the reader having bad taste in novel after all, everyone have different tastes. At most, these reader have peculiar taste. And most of the harem reader never cared about it's character, all they care about is, well as long as it's Harem. And what bad about harem reader is that, they're a massive bias. As long as a character badmouth the MC one time.. just one time, is enough for them to hate the character.

If i were leading someone or a group of people in a dangerous world, these are all the things i would expect from them. Hes just making a contract and putting it in writing instead of it being unspoken or mere verbal agreements? Shes just using her own twisted mind and thinking he needs her for anything other than getting more power for himself. In other words, she thinks too highly of herself

Slave contract is still a slave contract. You can't just put sweet words in there and expect people to accept it. It's easy to say "All the terms simply makes it so that its impossible for her to betray him him or ruin his plans" but who in the world will know the others person thinking?

You lot doesn't understand what I'm talking. I don't mind him having contract, but slave contract is taking it too far especially if in this comment section you people find it acceptable and hated the girl for rejecting it. It's just laughable.

I don’t hate her for rejecting it, and I CAN see your point. BUT, if a slave contract is the only way to ensure the people he uses doesn’t, or I should say CANT betray him, I really don’t see the problem. Even if SHE doesn’t know it, WE as readers know that he doesn’t really want her as a slave. All your seeing is the ‘slave’ in slave contract and purposely ignoring the ‘intentions’ behind his use of it.

It’s perfectly fine to hate the idea of a slave contract, but the type of contact itself isn’t the evil you should be hyper aware of, it’s the intentions of the person behind it. The fact is, for the current and maybe even future him, this is the only way he can trust his and his sisters back to people, and there’s no way to fault him for that. His ultimate goal isn’t to have a bunch of slaves at his beck and call to use and abuse, but people he could EVENTUALLY have some ability to put a little trust in.

I do agree that he doesn't have bad intention with the contract. But what I hate about him is that he never explains it. What he said in this chapter is equivalent to saying "you want my help? Be my slave, take it or leave it" I don't know, maybe I just don't like his character at all.

That's probably it. The current him doesnt trust or care for anybody who isnt himself or his sister, which is why he doesnt bother with explanations. With his current personality, it's actually surprising to me that he put up with her attitude at all let alone find it in himself to an explanation.

Dude actually lived through hell and watched his little sister die. Right now he'll be risking everything if he just blindly accepted to help.
To me that's a perfect response BECAUSE HE KNOWS what's actually being a slave means

"And if you still bother me, then you will only be forcing my hand to cut ties with the three of you completely."

If he actually cut ties with them I will be pleasantly surprised. She is just petty and annoying, especially for someone who is asking for help (or in her eyes trying to use him.)

Well, in her perspective this is just a game that can bring money, but nothing else, and like he said, they aren't in despair yet.

I mean, he doesn’t care about her at all. IIRC it was implied that Mia had a constitution that allowed strength boosts through sex so he offered it to her and Alex assumed some shit

Which again, he never explained. It is easy to misinterpret what he said. It was never said he explained the Yin body to her.

It was implied through context clues.

He mentions to himself her constitution,
He whispers an offer in her ear,
She goes red and says something like “we can do that in the game?”

Chapter 33. She never mention that he told her about the Yin Constitution. Just that We can do....that in the game. You are adding context clues that were never there. The only time he mention Yin Constitution was in his thoughts. This is how Alex had the wrong idea.
