Chapter 243: Clueless About Girls |
The Heavenly Dao Fragment.
A legendary treasure that chose its host.
Those chosen could complete small tasks, earning points and rewards, which could then be exchanged for countless treasures in the “System Shop.”
Even treasures from other worlds were within reach.
These treasures could grant even the most mediocre cultivator extraordinary talent or help those stuck in a bottleneck to achieve a breakthrough.
Each System also granted its host a unique ability.
The possibilities were endless.
Even Yu Ling had been stunned when she first learned about it. Such a treasure was a true stroke of luck.
And what was even more shocking was that it wasn’t just one or two people who had obtained a Heavenly Dao Fragment.
All of them.
Each one emerged with the joyful exuberance of a child who had received a new toy.
Their haul from the Immortal Venerable’s ruins was far greater than anyone had imagined.
Ziqing Province.
“Lunch is ready!”
Chen Yin emerged from the kitchen, his clothes smelling of smoke.
But no one heard him.
The teenagers were too engrossed in their new toys.
Si Qing and Hua Yulian were trying on different outfits, Xiao Luo and Hu Li were examining various weapons and talismans, and Feng Xiangling was poring over ancient texts.
“…Sigh.”
“At least eat first,” Chen Yin said, exasperated.
A cheerful voice came from the dining table.
“Hmm, today’s stir-fried pork with chili peppers is almost as good as the ones from the restaurants in the city.”
Yu Ling’s mouth was full, and she nodded at him approvingly.
“Not bad. Keep practicing.”
Chen Yin wiped his hands and sat beside her. “Shall we eat?”
“Don’t mind those brats.”
Yu Ling said casually, picking up some food. “With those Heavenly Dao Fragments, they won’t starve anytime soon.”
Chen Yin sighed softly.
Yu Ling, noticing his downcast expression, paused and said, trying to sound casual,
“You know… you don’t have to be so unhappy.”
“Everyone has their own opportunities. Yours will come eventually.”
“Maybe you’ll find something even better soon.”
Chen Yin realized she thought he was disappointed about not getting a Heavenly Dao Fragment.
“Don’t worry, Big Sister, I’m not upset about that.”
…He was just a little uneasy.
In his memory, Heavenly Dao Fragments were incredibly rare. Even the Divine Son had to search tirelessly for them.
But this time, it was like they were being given away for free.
Something felt wrong.
Seeing that he was still smiling, Yu Ling seemed relieved and continued eating.
“That’s good.” She took a sip of soup.
“You’re quite perceptive, Big Sister.”
“W-well, I’m the Big Sister, I have to take care of my little brothers,” she mumbled, her cheeks flushing slightly.
“I’m not that childish,” Chen Yin shrugged.
“Who would have thought a ten-year-old could be so mature?” Yu Ling said, her usual sharp tone softening slightly. “Are you sure you’re not envious?”
“Not at all.”
“Why? They’re incredibly powerful treasures. They can grant you anything you desire.”
Chen Yin’s gaze lowered, and he shook his head slowly.
“…What I want, they can’t give me.”
“Really?”
Yu Ling blinked curiously. “What do you want?”
“Hmm…”
“I guess I want to marry a girl like Big Sister.”
Chen Yin nodded seriously.
The sound of a bowl crashing to the floor echoed through the room, silencing the teenagers.
They exchanged glances, then quietly gathered outside the kitchen door, peeking through the crack and listening.
“Y-you…”
Yu Ling’s face was crimson as she pointed at Chen Yin, speechless.
“What did you just say?!”
“I just said,” Chen Yin blinked his innocent eyes, “that a strong and independent woman like Big Sister is my ideal type. If I ever get married, I want to find someone like you.”
“Is there something wrong with that? Why are you so flustered, Big Sister?”
Yu Ling stammered, then sat back down, her head lowered, trying to hide her embarrassment.
“…It’s nothing.”
Chen Yin calmly took a sip of soup, then added softly,
“And… don’t waste food. It’s a pity you spilled your soup.”
Yu Ling mumbled an apology, her head still lowered.
The teenagers watching from outside the door saw everything.
“Whoa,” someone whispered.
“I’ve never seen Big Sister so flustered before.”
“Has anyone ever heard her apologize?”
Xiao Luo turned to the others, and they all shook their heads.
“This Chen Yin, he’s new, but he’s already wrapped Big Sister around his little finger,” A-Li said, stroking his chin thoughtfully. “Could he be some hidden expert? Even stronger than Big Sister?”
Before he could finish his sentence, Si Qing smacked him on the head.
“Stop speculating!”
She frowned, annoyed. “Aren’t you ashamed of eavesdropping?”
“Go away!”
A-Li, not daring to argue, just mumbled, “You were eavesdropping too…”
Hua Yulian giggled.
“You’re all still too young. You don’t understand a girl’s heart at all.”
A-Li and Xiao Luo exchanged confused glances.
“Qingqing is so unpredictable. How can we possibly understand her?”
Hua Yulian giggled again, her eyes glancing towards the kitchen.
“I wasn’t just talking about Qingqing.”
