After he transmigrated, Ye Shuo became the Ninth Prince of the Great Zhou Dynasty.

His mother was the most favoured Imperial Concubine, and his grandfather was the Duke Zhen who had massive troops under him; his birth immediately made him one of the three most popular candidates in fighting for the throne, even overshadowing the Crown Prince.
The most important thing was, even his mother shared the same desires in competing for the throne.

A favoured concubine + Military power + an Emperor in the prime of his life; at first glance, this kind of arrangement already meant its upcoming doom was near. Not only that, he still had eight more elder brothers above him filled with ambitions.
Eight older brothers, and each one of them outstanding on their own.

Ye Shuo thought about it for a while, then closed his eyes and kicked his feet; whoever wanted to ascend this throne should just do it.

So what if they became the Emperor? There wasn’t any Internet, not even electricity, as well as any games; even if he became the Emperor, the toilets still couldn’t flush on its own.
As he had no desires to fight for it, just like that, the royal Ninth Prince who was treasured like gold and jade grew up to be an infamous dandy.

They had to go to the study room before dawn? So that’s why the probability of children dying young was high; he definitely won’t go.
Being a subject first then only a person? Even if he is the Emperor, wasn’t he still his father?

At first, the Crown Prince and everyone else thought that this brother of theirs was just keeping a low profile while biding his time, only till that time when he was eight years old and still continued being carried on his father’s back to class did they finally realized, that child was done for.

In the past, the current Emperor was always threading over thin ice, carefully maintaining his position as a son for thirty years before he finally ascended the throne. After taking the throne, his sons now were just like the previous him during those years before; until the birth of the Ninth Prince, that was the first time the Emperor met a child like him.

But for some reason that even he didn’t know of, the Emperor was instead very invested in his young son; even if there were more children born after, he was still less attentive towards them than him.

More than ten years went by, conflicts started to arouse in court, feuds amongst brothers appeared, times were changing; and yet only Ye Shuo continued to remain the same.

Nobody could expect that, the new Emperor would pass away three years after he took the throne, only leaving behind his one and only child as heir. With painstaking efforts and great difficulty, Ye Shuo finally supported his brother’s only child to the throne; however, he only took away his attention for a moment and just like that, the child was gone.

The imperial clan didn’t have anyone left; and could only let this Imperial Uncle of him to inherit the throne.
During his time as the Emperor’s uncle, he was only twenty six years old.

Ye Shuo: “…”

The day of his enthronement, when they thought back of how the previous Ninth Prince and the current Ninth Imperial Uncle hadn’t even graduated from primary school; the ministers couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with grief, and almost made the Hall of Supreme Harmony overflown with tears.

Their Great Zhou Dynasty, was going to end.

Seeing how the Ninth Prince after becoming the Emperor continued with his out of sorts behaviour, everyone including the Imperial Tutor had already made preparations to be annexed by the two countries around them.

What they didn’t expect was after a year, the country was still stable.

Three years went by, the common people no longer suffered from any hunger.

After five years, natural disasters started to appear, Ye Shuo took the oppurtunity to send out troops, and then annihilated the two countries.

Looking at this unified territory before them, the courtiers couldn’t believe their eyes.

Who would’ve thought that in Ye Shuo’s previous life, he was actually a genius. Collapse

This is one of those nicely packed stories. I don't really finish a light novel but this one hooks you in.

As someone who walked the dao of mtl, the translation honestly is good in my opinion, the cohesion and comprehension are there tho the grammar fell behind in a small margin, but passable really, compared to others mtl that the whole paragraph is squeezed in one sentence (tears)

now for the story, i came from reading novel with system or gold fingers that have miraculous effect, mc could save everyone using his precious elixir or pills, so imagine my aversion when reading a simple reincarnation story like this with mc who's powerless in the face of death and could not save everyone, even his family ties (like c'mon, if this mc have a system, he could save all of them and solve everything with his eyes close) but that's exactly the point of this novel, ye shou is a normal person after all and can't cover the sky with one hand, fortunately when he became the emperor i could witness him being powerful and the rightful ruler sitting on that throne

tho tbh i miss so many character who died, as in, as if i was there and i grew up with them that just thinking about the past (the early chapters) i was melancholy, i miss the simplicity of their youth, the comedy that made me cackling till 3 am, and the tears that i shed during my history class, such a rollercoaster of emotions that fulfilled me, i am satisfied especially with the extra chaps serving as the icing on cake, all loose ends! 🍒💗

ps. the reaction extra chaps was a good move tho, i really love it! 🤩

Couldn't make it past the first 3 chapters. Poor translation ruins the story with all the grammar mistakes . MTL the story from the raws on chat gpt and got a better result.

One of the best Chinese historical background story i ever read. The plot is not the typical young master chinese plot, full of laughter and then ninja cutting onions. But most of all, the ending is soo damn satisfying. Thanks author for the wonderful story ♡´・ᴗ・`♡

It's a good novel. Up till like chapter 170 (after ~2 intro chapters) there's quite many funny and warm situations. Later there's more and more drama.
MC's a prince who is pursuing a carefree life. He is good with people, acting. Later after drama floods he doesn't really shine much and sometimes feels more disgraceful.
Quite a lot of characters, but not really overly so, considering the genre (kingdom, politics).
Sometimes feels like too much PoVs, but not that often. Maybe because the story is good and characters are well-described.
Not that much fantasy in here, mostly just some "kungfu"-wuxia, but there's usually quite little focus on it. Personally I don't like historical genre, but this story is quite fun till the drama part. Later there's also some good comedy, but the background is dark already.
    Stopped at 240.

    Only he was so stubborn.

He doesn’t care about power but only about love
this a direct quote about MC's character which probably confusing to you who haven't read the story, but you can regard it as his understanding of what life is about. what's truly matter for him who got a second chance at life after losing his whole world(parents) to fate(death), is that he would make every arrangements necessary but won't be scrambling for power and riches

i won't say i'm such a hermit who doesn't really care about wealth, power, and other life's enjoyments, but at the end of the day, without no one to care for and or no one who cares about you, no amount of wealth, achievements, nor power could fill that void. so, this story is special for me cause author made the MC in a way that truly resonates with me. or said in another way, MC is the perfect image of what i strives to be

It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener in a war.”

As others have said below, this novel is very well done. Not overly long like all those Xianxia novels either. Really took me through almost all range of emotions (except fear). Translation quality is not the best but it is readable, though I do tend to get annoyed by the mix of he and she so many times...but I think that's more due to the fault of the English language.

A beautiful novel, worthy of having a tv show. It makes you laugh and it makes you cry. The first few chapters are a bit rocky but once it finds it's groove, it's great all the way.
