Downtown Druid by Seersucker

Reading this feels like one of the old Forgotten Realms or Thieves World books. The writing has a professional feeling with the impeccable pacing and build-up you would expect from buying a work of a professional author, even though it is a freely available webnovel by a relative newcomer.

I will say however that I went into this story with a wrong impression that the main character would only be in prison for a short time and most of their character development would take place after quickly getting out. Boy was I wrong about that! Forty chapters in and it's still in a sprawling underground prison colony setting. Although, who knows what the future for Dantes might hold?

The first book I read by this author was Armor, and I knew I was in for a treat if it would be anything like his prior work. So far it is living up to my high expectations!

Some parts are not suitable for young readers, though: gambling, drugs, murder, gay/bedroom scenes, and general mayhem.
