    It seems I’m one of the few that found this a bit bland. Sure there aren’t any shitty face slapping cliches, but the story itself…. Kinda meh. Generic cultivation system without any depth, techniques without any depth (just number go up, punch/swing harder), MC himself, little to no personality aside from the usual Chinese motivated hyper-competent MC. Nothing really happens except fighting or going to places for more fighting. The actual battles are also just basically ‘punch/hit’ each other and MC will hit hardest so wins. So that’s kinda boring too.

    Funnily enough character interactions weren’t that bad and I liked the monster side of things that I stuck around till 240~. Current translation is also good, but its wuxiaworld so stuck with thier curse of picking mediocre/meh novels but translate them really well.

    Very enjoyable, lots of bloody fighting with plenty of gory details without being distasteful. Characters stick around not feeling forced, honestly this is high quality junk food borderline gourmet. Recommended to those in the mood for violence and fun without drama. (Ch. 252)

    (Have read till ch 31) while this does have an interresting premise(mc has an Avatar gets boosted by it evolving), its overshadowed by quite a bit weird and/or boring writting espically since the beginning(those 30ch) is just slow for no reason like ive seen novels who could give more detail and world building in 3 chapters than this had in 30 its not painfully slow or anything just boring, the chars already feel flat since they just have one trait, which might be ok if they werent of any importence, but this has to much interaction for that to not matter, making this to some extent a chore to read. Overall from the bit ive read, i get that its just a mehh cultivation novel in a modern cultivation world with a somewhat interresting and unique premise. Also this has Potential for hidden nationalism, but it might not be the case (some people in the comments mentioned it i didnt see it but its not impossible or even very unlikely, but still likely not the case)

    There are two translations of this. The old one that used to be on this site is from Webnovel. It's MTL trash and changes MC's name from Chen Chu to Jack Clark, among other atrocities. The current translation, which replaced that one, but kept all the reviews and votes, is a top tier human translation. Ignore any old complaints about a bad translation. The 1 star ratings are most likely due to that unreadable garbage as well.

    So far at chapter 88, the novel is excellent. MC's cheat isn't too ridiculous, he's not an idiot, and the pacing is solid. At this point, I honestly don't have a single complaint. It's just good.

    I also haven't noticed any of the nationalism the previous commenter mentioned. MC is fighting against some demonic blood cult in another country at the moment, but there's nothing I've seen that's even remotely close to the disgusting Chinese nationalism and racism you see so often in these novels. That's not to say it won't show up in the future, but they're either not talking about the current translation or they're seeing something I'm not.

    Highly recommended.

      When you have read many novels with nationalist tag..you start to notice that the authors have become aware of the discontent they have caused overseas.

      To combat that, and to be able to do more of the same without making others dislike their novel, they started to use alternate names for countries but essentially everything was same.

      Japan became sakura country, US became Eagle country and Russia became Bear country. The rest of the world is forgotten by the way...just like the way aliens forget that there are other cities than just NYC.

      In these novels you will see that its a different world, but strangely it has all the culture of earth just named different. There is always a Great Xia, there is always 'Northern barbarians' which is just either mongolians or russians.

      If you want an example, see 'Tome of the troubled times' a perfect example.

      If you encounter these novels again and again you will notice racist contents..just coated in different colors. I am sick of this shit. I never had any problem with chinese people..now because of such novels i always rant. Its f#cking exhausting.

      Existence of novels like 'Lord of Mysteries' is only reason i come here.

        Tbh it also depends on what kind of novel you read(e.g kingdom building has more of that), i get the feeling that the better the novel the rarer that is anyway, ive seen it sometimes in someform but as long as its not in a modern world i dont care since its mostly never realy anything related to nationalism
