Jay was merely a butcher, living in a small village on the outskirts of a magical world. When humans came of age, they would receive their class from a mana conduit, and begin their lives as adventurers.

“Status” Thought Jay, checking his class.

“...I'm a Necromancer?!” he was shocked. Looking around in fear, he was glad no one heard him.

In this world, this was a monster class - and one of the more powerful monsters at that.

Jay knew he would be hunted down and killed on sight - he was not just a threat to the authority of the nobles, but to all living things.

Jay now had only one option - to get stronger; building his necrotic powers up so that he may one day become untouchable. Through plotting, secrecy, and sometimes by sheer carnage, he can only attempt to survive in this hostile world.

    Reading this novel makes me feel uncomfortable, I’ve read similar things done far better but that’s not the point. The main character doesn’t feel like a person, and rather a living info dump. There are 0 reasonable emotions, relatable thoughts, or character development moments. He’s never truly described as a character making his actions ambiguous despite us being able to hear his thoughts. Also the author tends to go over board on the descriptions later on making it a chore to read. I give it a 2/10 solely because it had a few good parts, but not enough to justify wasting hours of free time.

    Isn't this just book of the dead like it has the same premise a world where everyone is assigned a class from a magical object and then the mc gets the necromancer class which is a class that it considered evil so they have to run away to avoid being persecuted for it.

    As of CH189: Despite the generic litRPG theme, it's actually not bad. The main character is less retarded than you might expect, and although the plot armor is rather thick for my tastes, the progression is pretty engaging too.
    The main selling point to me is that this novel makes the magic feel mysterious, despite using pretty much the same spells anyone would expect a generic necromancer to use.

    If you don't have anything to read right now, there are definitely worse options out there.

      Is there a common story format for necromancer novels? Like I understand if you have common format for a hunter novel or a transmigration novel, but necromancer is just a class, how could it have a common format?         From what I've seen, it's mostly just society being classist and treating all necros as evil or weak, usually combined with the MC being downtrodden before or shortly after becoming a necro.

        Then the MC makes friends with his summons or they become comic relief via the exact same tropes, and/or he uses some kind of trick or exploit to become more than just a weak, sickly mage standing behind his summons.

        Something along those lines.

        Honestly it wouldn't be so bad if their plots didn't become so dogshit after the decent beginnings.

        Not all are bad, but it's been often enough that even a fan of the necro class like me just doesn't really get enthused when I find a new necro novel.

    It's boring, now if you are a new reader, sure try ahead, I would say it's slightly below average among the more well known wn novels, but a typical necromancer story never hurts to read when you just want to pass time.

    For veteran readers, we may have different tastes, and I may have just become bored faster, but it's really nothing quite new, and neither does it really have any outstanding qualities to justify reading it while there are thousands of better ones to read.

    Overall, very meh novel that you wouldn't want to read unless you are both bored and really, really want to read a necromancer novel

    I couldn't get past chapter 4. Characters are very bland including the MC so far. No sign of any world building other than typical fantasy world with classes, levels, and dungeons and such. Didn't notice any major spelling or grammar mistakes but the writing is just. So. Bland.
