Chapter 407: Elimination match, those familiar names |
An hour passed quickly.
"Number one, step onto the stage!" the Water Kylin said calmly.
Hai Teng's figure flickered and he appeared in the center of the arena.
The other number one contestant, a human cultivator, felt his heart sink upon realizing his opponent was Hai Teng. He took a deep breath and jumped onto the stage.
"I am Zhu Yan. I've long heard of your great name, Hai Teng. Please, enlighten me!"
Zhu Yan was a sword cultivator. A row of flying swords appeared behind him, forming a circle with their tips pointing outward.
"These flying swords, thirty-six in total, form the Tiangang Beidou Sword Formation. If you can withstand my sword formation, I will concede defeat!" Zhu Yan said in a deep voice.
Having emerged from seven hundred contestants to reach the top thirty-two, Zhu Yan's strength was unquestionable, among the top tier.
With this lethal sword formation, Zhu Yan had once slain a demonic cultivator at the Great Perfection of the Core Formation stage, gaining significant fame. Within Penglai Island, his swordsmanship ranked among the top three of the younger generation.
"Get lost!"
With a thunderous shout, Hai Teng conjured the shadow of a divine dragon behind him, roaring furiously. A terrifying sound wave surged forth, forming a visible tornado that crashed into Zhu Yan's body.
"Crack, crack, crack... Boom!!"
Zhu Yan's Tiangang Beidou Sword Formation had just formed when it crumbled. Zhu Yan himself spat a mouthful of blood, sent flying off the stage, crashing to the ground, his bones nearly shattered, his internal organs severely damaged, his breath weak.
"So... so strong!"
The crowd was stunned into silence.
Zhu Yan, a formidable figure in his own right, couldn't withstand even a single move from Hai Teng.
Ironically, he had boasted about having Hai Teng withstand his sword formation, yet he didn't even have the chance to draw his sword!
Xu Hei's pupils contracted as he muttered to himself, "Dragon Shatter Roar?"
Hai Teng had just used a sound wave spell, very similar to the Dragon Shatter Roar.
Demonic beasts using sound wave spells was common, whether it be a lion's roar, a tiger's howl, or an ape's scream.
But Hai Teng's move, while not identical to the Dragon Shatter Roar, was at least eighty to ninety percent similar, which was quite remarkable.
Xu Hei wondered if Hai Teng had stolen the technique from him or inherited it from somewhere. However, Hai Teng's dragon roar clearly only attacked the physical body and couldn't harm the soul.
Otherwise, Zhu Yan wouldn't have just suffered some internal injuries.
"Similar in form but not in essence. Perhaps the Flood Dragon's inheritance originally evolved from the true dragon, so some similarity isn't surprising," Xu Hei speculated.
Before stepping down, Hai Teng glanced at Xu Hei, and Xu Hei could tell he was somewhat smug.
"This guy..." Xu Hei was speechless.
"Number two, step onto the stage," the Water Kylin said.
A white-robed scholar lightly floated onto the stage, his black hair cascading like a waterfall, his face flawless, exuding a scholarly aura, clearly a frail-looking intellectual.
A year had passed, and the arrogance on his face had faded, but the light in his eyes was brighter. He was Bai Qiushui.
Bai Qiushui's opponent was also human, a woman in purple.
Xu Hei found the woman somewhat familiar, as if he had seen her somewhere before, but couldn't recall where, perhaps just a passerby.
"Brother Bai, please enlighten me!" the woman in purple bowed slightly.
"Zhou Wendie, you're no match for him!"
Suddenly, a cold voice came from below the stage. The speaker was Bai Luo.
Zhou Wendie nodded and said, "I forfeit."
With that, she jumped off the stage.
"Bai Qiushui wins!" the Water Kylin announced.
Hearing the name, Xu Hei remembered, oh, she was the Zhou family's legitimate daughter, stripped of her fortune, blending into the crowd.
In the previous round, she almost couldn't withstand the spiritual pressure and only managed to get through with Bai Luo's protection. Her forfeit this round was straightforward.
Next up was number three, Gong Tianhe, whose opponent was an unknown demonic beast, defeated in just two moves.
Then came number four, both sides were not well-known, but the fight was intense, a rare evenly matched battle.
In short, it was a battle of weaklings.
Xu Bai was number five. Interestingly, after she took the stage, her opponent didn't even have the courage to step up, forfeiting directly from below.
Everyone understood; no one wanted to risk growing mushrooms by facing Xu Bai, unless they had the ability to swallow a Thunder Tribulation Pearl, otherwise, it was best not to try.
Next, number six was another battle of weaklings, number seven had a bye, number eight was Bai Luo, number nine was the Nine-Headed Worm...
All those who had muddled through the first round were eliminated cleanly. It seemed there was some deliberate arrangement, as the powerful Chosen didn't meet immediately, at least not until the next round.
Luck might get you into the top thirty-two, but definitely not into the top sixteen!
"Number thirteen, step onto the stage!" the Water Kylin announced.
A girl with a head full of white hair and an expressionless face appeared on the stage. Her eyes stared straight ahead into the void, unfocused, always maintaining a cold, indifferent demeanor.
"Silver-haired Witch?"
Xu Hei raised an eyebrow. He knew her; she was from the Chu Tian Alliance and seemed to possess some spatial abilities.
And the Silver-haired Witch's opponent was... Lin Ziye!
Xu Hei also knew this person, a student of the Confucian scholar, but unscrupulous in his actions, having joined the Sea God Sect, behaving like a righteous person with a demonic style.
"Heh, seems my luck is bad, facing you in the first match," Lin Ziye chuckled bitterly.
Ah Yin stared at him intently, not moving an inch.
"I'm not your match, continuing would be a waste of time, I forf—"
As Lin Ziye was speaking, suddenly, two black lines appeared under Ah Yin's feet, entangling her.
The next second, Lin Ziye raised his hand, pointing, and a sword of green light shot straight at her flat chest.
He actually attempted a sneak attack!
"Goodness, as expected of you!"
Bai Qiushui rubbed his forehead, unable to watch.
He had come to understand this senior brother's character over the past year, always cunning and unscrupulous. Such a cultivator would make a good villain, yet he exuded righteousness, creating a bizarre impression.
However, Lin Ziye's sneak attack abruptly stopped, his attack passing through Ah Yin's body, hitting nothing.
Ah Yin's body became transparent, seemingly not existing in this world, leaving only a projection.
Suddenly, Lin Ziye's hair stood on end, and he shouted repeatedly, "I forfeit!!"
A terrifying spatial pressure came, Lin Ziye's bones trembled, and he was sent flying backward, heavily crashing outside the arena, his body crushed into a mass, blood and flesh blurred.
"Phew, saved!" Lin Ziye exhaled deeply.
Too dangerous! This girl didn't hold back, treating all opponents equally with her spatial techniques, rendering defense useless.
"Hmm?"
Yu Jianqiu squinted, looking at the seemingly ordinary Silver-haired Witch on stage, a strange light flashing in his eyes.
"A divine ability, and a rare spatial divine ability at that. Who is this girl? Why is her cultivation only at the Core Formation stage?" Yu Jianqiu pondered.
