Chapter 398: Depths of 300,000 Feet

Su Changyu still had something he hadn’t said.

Exploring opportunities wasn’t without risks.

If they all went together, and ultimately ended up wiped out.

Wouldn’t the legacy of the [Rebirth Immortal] be cut off forever?

This was the point that weighed most heavily on Xiao Heng’s mind.

But Su Changyu could see that, at this moment, everyone present besides Xiao Heng didn’t place much importance on the [Rebirth Immortal].

At least, compared to their own cultivation, the so-called [Rebirth Immortal] legacy was simply not worth mentioning.

Xiao Heng might not be unaware of this point in his heart.

However, he had his own principles and did not force others.

So it was not easy for him to say it directly.

Although Su Changyu’s eyes had remained closed, he was aware of the thoughts of everyone in the field.

So he took the initiative to break the ice, “How about this, Xiao Heng, Little Sister, and Zhang Haobo, you three go together to the Cangwu Abyss.”

“As for me, I’ll stay here.”

Before Su Xiaomei could object, he continued to explain, “The cultivation method I practice is special. The so-called opportunities are actually of little use to me.”

“So you don’t have to worry about it.”

Upon hearing this, Xiao Heng gave Su Changyu a grateful look.

Su Xiaomei, however, turned her head away in a fit of pique, refusing to look at Su Changyu.

However, Little Sister still trusted Su Changyu’s words.

Now that he had made the decision, the matter was practically settled.

“Then there’s just one more Little Medicine King Cauldron. Could it be that, as the senior said, we should sell it?” Zhang Haobo asked, frowning.

“No,” Su Changyu shook his head in denial.

“Carrying the Little Medicine King Cauldron is already a crime. If we expose our knowledge of this true Medicine King Cauldron for the sake of a little profit, it would be unwise.”

“It’s better to keep it, and when the time is right, throw it out as bait to distract the enemy.”

Xiao Heng also agreed with Su Changyu’s words.

“Although it’s a bit of a pity, this is also the most stable approach.”

“Whatever! You guys decide anyway!” Su Xiaomei snorted, no longer objecting.

She grabbed Han Wuyou and went outside to play.

“The journey to the Cangwu Abyss is long. We are not Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance cultivators, so we cannot use the teleportation array.”

“If we fly with our physical bodies, it would take too long, and we might have unforeseen accidents along the way.”

“We need to come up with a good plan…”

Xiao Heng stroked his chin, frowning as he spoke.

“That…” Zhang Haobo hesitated.

“What?” Xiao Heng looked at Zhang Haobo with some surprise.

“The teleportation array, maybe we can use it too.” Zhang Haobo explained.

“You know, during our exploration in Jiushan Province, we met Senior Shuofeng.”

“On our trip to Chaoyuan Sect, we even fought our way out of a mountain of corpses and blood together.”

“We can be considered close friends.”

“When we parted ways, Senior Shuofeng invited us to join the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance, although we declined.”

“But he still expressed understanding and left a jade token for Little Sister.”

“With that jade token, we should have no problem using the teleportation array.”

Xiao Heng nodded upon hearing this, “That would be best.”

He thought that Zhang Haobo’s previous hesitation was because Shuofeng was a Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance cultivator.

Xiao Heng said solemnly, “I am not someone who is inflexible. Our enemy is the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance, not every individual within the alliance.”

“If we can befriend Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance cultivators and undermine them from within, it would be a win-win situation.”

“Why would I object?”

“I’ll go find Little Sister and talk to her about this.”

With that, Xiao Heng left to find Su Xiaomei.

Zhang Haobo watched Xiao Heng’s back and shook his head helplessly.

“What, is there something going on between Little Sister and that Shuofeng?” It was Su Changyu who noticed Zhang Haobo’s meaning and asked with interest.

“Who knows, anyway, I see them getting along like a house on fire. That Shuofeng, although he has now returned to Nascent Soul cultivation, doesn’t mind Little Sister’s cultivation.”

“Sigh, this kid Xiao Heng, he has no sense of crisis at all.”

Su Changyu chuckled, “You worry too much. In my opinion, Little Sister’s heart may not be on matters of love.”

Zhang Haobo was also speechless, shaking his head.

Years had passed, and the little kids from back then seemed to have all grown up.

Yet, there were still some things that remained unchanged.

Li Fan couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia, and he suddenly thought of his children from his previous lives.

“I’m getting old,” he murmured to himself.

Then, quickly, Li Fan suppressed this emotion.

As for Xiao Heng, it took a lot of effort to coax Su Xiaomei into a cheerful mood and agree to hand over Shuofeng’s jade token.

After a few days of preparation, Xiao Heng, Su Xiaomei, and Zhang Haobo set off on their journey to the Cangwu Province.

Han Wuyou’s big eyes were filled with envy.

He waved goodbye to them.

Su Changyu’s eyelids twitched violently, as if he wanted to open his eyes.

But his expression remained calm and serene.

Until the very end, he did not open his heavy eyes.

Shuofeng’s jade token really worked.

Even though they were not Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance cultivators, Xiao Heng and the others were able to enter the Shilin Immortal City without any obstacles.

Xiao Heng tightly held back Su Xiaomei, who was very curious and wanted to go sightseeing.

With some trepidation in his heart, he activated the teleportation array.

They teleported to the border of Shilin Province, crossed the white mist barrier, and arrived in Yuandao Province.

Then, they continuously used the teleportation array to head towards the Cangwu Abyss, in the southwestern corner of the Xuanhuang World.

Thus, after more than half a month.

When Li Fan began to inspect the Tianxuan Soul Locking Formation in Lanlin Province, Xiao Heng and his group finally reached their destination.

“It seems that Lanlin Province is indeed not far from the Cangwu Abyss. Even without using the sensing formation, my Formless Killing Intent can sense the scene.”

With the help of their eyes, Li Fan was finally able to see the Cangwu Abyss, which had been famous for so long, with his own eyes.

Unlike the Congyun Abyss, which had completely turned into nothingness.

This Cangwu Abyss was more like a wasteland of the Great Xuan.

Below towering cliffs was an endless valley.

Above the valley, crimson clouds swirled, their ends nowhere to be seen.

Many birds and beasts soared through the clouds.

And on the cliff walls, at intervals downward, there were many buildings built against the mountain, extending deep into the mountain.

“The Cangwu Abyss was formed many years ago when the mountains and rivers of the Cangwu Province all disappeared, creating this unique landform.”

“Therefore, the abyss has its own boundary, shaped like a footprint.”

“It has been explored down to about 300,000 feet, but the bottom is still far from sight.”

“The Cangwu Abyss is not empty, but has its own appearance.”

“The first layer, from the ground to 30,000 feet underground. Many strange beasts inhabit the Cangwu clouds and the cliffs of the abyss.”

“These beasts can swallow gold and spit lightning, and they are very powerful. They are fearless of death and travel in packs. You must be careful to avoid them.”

“The second layer, from 30,000 feet to 80,000 feet underground.”

Su Xiaomei read aloud from the jade slip that was given for free outside the Cangwu Abyss, her eyes wide with wonder.

“So big, so deep.”

“Then even if the Medicine King Cauldron is really in this Cangwu Abyss, we won’t be able to find it, right?”

She sent a voice transmission.

But Xiao Heng’s heart stirred.

He used the Little Medicine King Cauldron in his storage ring to sense.

Sure enough, in a certain location at the very bottom of the abyss, something was echoing with the Little Medicine King Cauldron.

Pls like or thank crisp009 (wow I’m saying this a lot)

Shape of a footprint? The Cong yun sea was in the shape of a palm print and now this Cangwu Abyss is in the shape of a foot print?

I wonder if this was a martial technique and if something like suppressing foot movement technique will be learned like suppressing palm was learned in the sea, there’s too much about this that is unknown for now

Chapter 398 – The Abyss Thirty Myriad Fathoms Deep

Su Changyu had yet another thought left unspoken.

To seek fortune was never without peril.
If they all went together and perished in the end,
then the legacy of the Restoration Immortal Order would vanish from the world.

This, above all, was what weighed most heavily upon Xiao Heng’s mind.

Yet Su Changyu could see that, apart from Xiao Heng himself,
none of those present regarded the Restoration Immortal Order with much gravity.
At least, when weighed against their own cultivation,
that so-called inheritance seemed scarcely worth mentioning.

Xiao Heng himself was not blind to this truth.
Still, he abided by his own code of conduct
and would not impose it upon others—
    thus, he held his tongue.

Though Su Changyu’s eyes remained closed,
he perceived clearly the thoughts that stirred within every heart present.
He took the initiative to ease the tension.

“Let it be thus. Xiao Heng, Xiaomei, and Zhang Haobo shall journey together to the Abyss of Cangwu.
As for me, I will remain here.”

Before Su Xiaomei could object, he continued,

“The art I cultivate is of a peculiar nature.
So-called opportunities hold little meaning for me.
There is no need for you to be concerned on my account.”

At this, Xiao Heng gave him a look of quiet gratitude.
Su Xiaomei, however, turned her head away in a small fit of temper,
though in truth she trusted Su Changyu’s judgment deeply.
With his word, the matter was all but settled.

“Then there will be an extra Lesser Medicine King Cauldron left over.
Are we truly to sell it off, as the elder once suggested?”
Zhang Haobo asked with a frown.

“That must not be done,” Su Changyu replied, shaking his head.
“To bear the cauldron is already to court danger.
Should word spread that we possess knowledge of the True Medicine King Cauldron,
    it would be sheer folly.
Better to keep it, and if need arises, cast it out as a lure to divert our foes.”

    Xiao Heng nodded in agreement.

“A little pity, perhaps, but the wisest course.”

    “Fine then—whatever you say!”
Su Xiaomei huffed, snatched up Han Wuyou by the arm, and went off to play.

“The journey to the Abyss of Cangwu is long indeed,” Xiao Heng mused.
“We are not disciples of the Alliance of Ten Thousand Immortals,
and so cannot make use of their teleportation arrays.
To rely on flight alone would take too long and invite misfortune on the road.
We must think of another way…”

    Zhang Haobo hesitated, then spoke.

    “There might be a way.”

“Oh?” Xiao Heng looked at him in surprise.

“You remember, during our exploration of Jiushan Province,
    we met Elder Shuofeng.
Later, we fought side by side through the blood-soaked hell of the Chaoyuan Sect.
We forged a bond of no small depth.
Before parting, Elder Shuofeng invited us to join the Alliance of Ten Thousand Immortals.
    Though we declined, he understood,
and left a jade token with Xiaomei.
With it, we should be able to borrow their teleportation arrays without issue.”

“All the better,” Xiao Heng said, nodding.
He had thought Zhang Haobo’s hesitation stemmed from the elder’s allegiance.
But he added, in a firm tone,
“Our enemy is the Alliance itself, not every soul within it.
If we can win the trust of their members and weaken them from within,
    so much the better.
    Why should I oppose that?”

“I’ll go and speak to Xiaomei,” he said, departing.

Zhang Haobo watched him go, shaking his head helplessly.

“What, is there some secret between Xiaomei and Shuofeng?”
Su Changyu asked lightly, having caught his tone.

“Who knows? But the two seemed close enough.
Shuofeng has already returned to the Dao Integration Realm,
yet he showed no disdain for Xiaomei’s cultivation.
Ah, that Xiao Heng—he has no sense of danger at all.”

Su Changyu gave a quiet laugh.

    “You worry too much.
I doubt Xiaomei’s heart holds any room for love.”

Zhang Haobo could only sigh in reply.

    Years had passed.
The little children of old had long since grown—
and yet, something in them remained unchanged.

Li Fan could not help but feel a pang of nostalgia,
his thoughts drifting to the sons and daughters of his earliest lives.

“Truly, I’ve grown old,” he murmured inwardly,
and quickly pressed the sentiment down.

    Xiao Heng, after much coaxing,
finally succeeded in making Su Xiaomei smile and surrender Shuofeng’s jade token.

A few days later, he, Su Xiaomei, and Zhang Haobo set out toward the Province of Cangwu.

Han Wuyou waved his hands, eyes wide with envy,
    calling farewells as they departed.

Su Changyu’s eyelids twitched violently, as though he wished to open his eyes,
yet his expression remained perfectly calm.
In the end, his twin pupils never did open.

The jade token of Shuofeng proved its worth.
Even without belonging to the Alliance of Ten Thousand Immortals,
the trio passed through the Immortal City of Shilin unimpeded.

Xiao Heng had to hold the curious Su Xiaomei tightly
to keep her from wandering off,
and with faint unease, they activated the teleportation array.

They emerged at the border of Shilin Province,
crossed the barrier of white mist,
    and entered Yuandao Province.
From there, they continued to rely on teleportation arrays,
moving ever southwest toward the far reaches of the world—
    to the Abyss of Cangwu.

    Half a month later,
as Li Fan was inspecting the Sky-Profound Spirit-Sealing Formation in Lanlin Province,
Xiao Heng and his companions finally arrived at their destination.

“It seems Lanlin Province truly lies not far from Cangwu,” Li Fan mused.
    “Even without the scrying arrays,
my Formless Killing Intent can sense their movements.”

Through the eyes of the group,
he at last beheld with his own sight the fabled Abyss of Cangwu.

Unlike the Cloud-Gathering Abyss that had long since faded into nothingness,
this one resembled the Desolate Chasms of Great Xuan—
a vast rift cleaving the earth.

Beneath towering cliffs yawned an endless gorge,
its depths shrouded in crimson mist without end.
Strange birds and beasts wheeled within that haze,
while in the cliff faces below,
whole complexes of dwellings had been carved into the stone at regular depths.

“The Abyss of Cangwu,” Su Xiaomei read aloud from a jade slip given freely by local cultivators,
“was formed when all mountains and rivers of the ancient Province of Cangwu vanished from the world.
The abyss takes the shape of a footprint.
To this day, explorers have descended thirty myriad fathoms
and still have not reached the bottom.”

“Within the abyss, each level differs from the last.
The first layer extends from the surface to thirty thousand fathoms below—
home to countless spirit beasts that dwell in the mists and cliffside caverns.
These creatures devour metal and breathe lightning,
fierce and fearless, always in packs—beware them well.
The second layer lies between thirty and eighty thousand fathoms…”

Su Xiaomei blinked, her eyes wide.

    “So vast… so deep.
Even if the True Medicine King Cauldron really lies somewhere within,
how could we ever find it?”

    She sent the thought privately.

    Xiao Heng’s heart stirred.
Within his storage ring, he activated the Lesser Medicine King Cauldron—
and sure enough, from the deepest reaches of the abyss below,
    something answered its call.

the downvotes are just bc it seems unnecessary and if its only like 5% screentime then why even introduce bc its not like romance will make it a better story than before and too little will just be unnecessary word count while too much will change the genre, like his goal is longevity and immortality/cultivation which will likely become 1000x harder if he has someone he truly cares about and has to protect against the eldritch/godlike beings that control the world
