Chapter 353: Using All Living Beings as Material

“The Longevity Immortal, not the True Immortal. Naturally, they would fall.”

Ji Hongdao shook his head, lightly smiling.

“Moreover, the owner of this broken blue stone palm is none other than the Ancient Immortal who achieved the position of Longevity Immortal through ancient methods.”

“Achieving the position of Longevity Immortal through ancient methods is not as harsh as it is today, requiring the understanding of the principles of heaven and earth.”

“Strength naturally weakens considerably.”

“Being killed by someone, encountering calamity and perishing, all are possible.”

Without leaving much time for the cultivators present to be shocked, Ji Hongdao seemed to only mention a trivial matter, then proceeded to instruct: “This mission is urgent, there isn’t much time for rest. Today, Huang Fu and Shangguan will familiarize everyone with the precautions within the Eternal Immortal Stronghold.”

“We will officially begin construction tomorrow.”

“In the first phase of the mission, outside the Abyss of Roars, we will construct the Tianxuan Locking Spirit Array.”

“After we have completed the migration of the newly discovered maze, we will rush to construct the second Locking Spirit Array.”

“Once the two locations are built, we can return.”

“Oh yes…”

Ji Hongdao paused, then took out a small Tianxuan Mirror from his bosom, projecting a beam of light above everyone’s heads.

“Let me tell you, the mass distribution of the Tianxuan Locking Spirit Array has officially begun.”

“Although most of you are not participating in the competition, the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance will not let your hard work go to waste.”

“Escort, transport, cooperation, every effort will be meticulously recorded and transformed into points. When the final Great Array is built, these points can be used to exchange for techniques and treasures within the alliance.”

“Moreover, the construction of each Tianxuan Locking Spirit Array will be considered a meritorious task of the highest rank.”

“Once the formation is completed, rewards corresponding to the contributions will be given out.”

“Real-time distribution, no delay.”

Before Ji Hongdao finished speaking, the cultivators present were already in an uproar.

Evidently, they had just learned of this news as well.

Tasks of the highest rank are usually extremely dangerous and difficult.

Ordinary cultivators have no hope of completing them.

And now, as long as they diligently construct the Tianxuan Locking Spirit Array, they can obtain them.

How could this not drive them crazy.

Ji Hongdao smiled faintly: “Everyone, do you want to obtain techniques, to elevate your authority level?”

“This time, it’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

“If you miss this, I’m afraid in the future, the price to obtain equivalent rewards will be several times more.”

“So, please work hard.”

In the midst of the excitement, Li Fan looked at the light list in the sky.

Perhaps because the competition had just begun, the gap had not yet widened.

The list above was constantly changing, indicating the fierce competition.

There were a total of 783 names on the list.

The names were very familiar, all of them were students who participated in the special training at the Universal Branch Academy.

Apart from Li Fan and Xue Mu, who bottomed out with zero points, there was also a Golden Core cultivator named Guo Yezhong who hadn’t formally participated in the formation construction for some reason.

“Alright, for now, put away your excitement. Save your energy for tomorrow.”

After a while, seeing that the atmosphere had calmed down, Ji Hongdao continued.

“After disembarking, make sure to carry this Black Death Token with you. Even within this Eternal Immortal Stronghold, you must do so. Remember that.”

“Starting tomorrow, there will also be cultivators stationed in the stronghold to accompany you to prevent the Abyssal Sonic Waves.”

“The specifics will be explained by Huang Fu and Shangguan.”

With that said, Ji Hongdao waved his hand, and hundreds of tokens with black light swirling on their surface appeared in the sky like lightning bolts.

Then each flew to the cultivators present.

Li Fan touched it with his hand, and the Black Death Token instantly turned into a black line, lurking around his left wrist.

Before he could thoroughly inspect it, urged by Huang Fu Song, they left the Dust Crossing Boat and temporarily settled in the Eternal Immortal Stronghold.

The stronghold was indeed the front line against the Roars of the Abyss, almost self-sufficient.

Facilities commonly seen in ordinary provincial cities were all available here.

Apart from the inability to teleport, there was even a Tianxuan Mirror present.

However, where Li Fan and the others lived was only the outermost part of the stronghold. Judging from the size he had seen before, it probably occupied no more than a section of a finger.

If they wanted to go deeper, they would be stopped by cultivators wearing green clothes.

Just as the cultivators were strolling around the stronghold.

On the Dust Crossing Boat.

Ji Hongdao was still standing at the bow of the ship, looking at the scenery inside the Broken Palm Building.

A distorted figure, like a ghost, suddenly appeared behind him.

“Still using enticing means, don’t you know how to come up with something new?” The figure spoke arrogantly, full of disdain.

Ji Hongdao seemed unsurprised by his appearance, not even turning his head, just calmly saying, “Old-fashioned, but effective.”

“Isn’t it?”

“Among all cultivators in the world, who can truly resist great benefits placed before them without being tempted?”

“Even someone as ‘noble’ as you, Lord Shao, if there were no gains to be had, how could you willingly guard the Abyss of Roars for decades without moving an inch?”

Lord Shao snorted coldly, not retorting.

After a moment of silence, he spoke up: “Being able to gain something from the abyss is my skill. Why don’t you let others try?”

“I won’t mention the merits of guarding such a dangerous place.”

“Why do we even need to construct the Tianxuan Locking Spirit Array on our side now?”

“You and I are both well aware of what it is.”

“We cultivators…”

Ji Hongdao suddenly turned around, his expression unprecedentedly serious, staring at Lord Shao.

The young Lord’s words also stopped abruptly.

“The Tianxuan Locking Spirit Array is the trend of the times,” Ji Hongdao emphasized each word, “Anyone who dares to oppose it is on a path of death.”

“I advise you, Lord Shao, not to attempt to challenge the will of the Law Transmitters.”

Seeing Lord Shao still looking displeased, Ji Hongdao sighed persuaded him, “The situation is urgent now, to the point where there is no time to lose.”

“For some reason, the heavens and earth suddenly lifted the restrictions on cultivation, seemingly throwing caution to the wind, as if they want us all to perish together.”

“At the Five Elders’ side, after numerous attempts, they still couldn’t locate the whereabouts of the Law Transmitter. They are getting restless.”

“The Law Transmitters have also observed signs of the reversal of the principles of heaven and earth.”

“What that signifies, I believe you are well aware.”

“At this moment, only with the Tianxuan Locking Spirit Array, using the lives of half the creatures in the Xuanhuang Realm as materials, can we get through this difficult time.”

“Then we can slowly search for a way out of this predicament.”

Lord Shao obviously couldn’t accept Ji Hongdao’s words.

He retorted, “Using all living beings as ants, how do you know you’re not one yourself?”

Ji Hongdao shrugged it off, “We are naturally above all living beings.”

Lord Shao snorted coldly, “Perhaps.”

“Let’s wait and see.”

With that, his figure shook and disappeared.

Chapter 353 – Wagered Upon All Living Beings

“‘Heavenly Venerable of Longevity’ is not the same as ‘Eternal Heavenly Venerable.’ Of course he could fall.”

Ji Hongdao shook his head with a faint, knowing smile.

“Besides,” he went on, “the master of that Azure Stone Hand was one of the Ancient Heavenly Venerables—those who attained their rank through the Old Path.”

“To ascend through the ancient methods was far less arduous than today’s cultivation, where one must defy the very laws of Heaven itself.”

“Such beings, naturally, were weaker by more than a margin.”

“To be slain by another… or to perish in tribulation—both are entirely possible.”

He spoke as though discussing a trivial matter, leaving no space for awe or reverence. Then his tone shifted to one of command.

“This mission is urgent. We’ll have no luxury of rest. Today, Huangfu and Shangguan will instruct you all on the precautions within the Eternal Immortal Rampart.”

“Tomorrow, we begin the actual work.”

“The first phase—construction of the Tianxuan Soul-Locking Grand Array outside the Chizha Abyss.”

“When we finish relocating the newly discovered mystic domain, we’ll move on to the second array site. Once both formations are complete, we’ll return.”

He paused briefly, then reached into his robes and drew forth a small, lustrous mirror—the Tianxuan Mirror. A beam of light shot upward, forming a radiant list above everyone’s heads.

“For your information,” Ji Hongdao continued, “the Tianxuan Array Construction Grand Competition has officially begun.”

“Though most of you are not contestants, the Alliance of Ten Thousand Immortals will not let your labor go unrewarded.”

“Guarding, transporting, assisting—every effort will be recorded and converted into contribution points. Once the array is completed, these points can be exchanged for cultivation arts or treasures within the Alliance.”

“Furthermore,” he added, a glint in his eye, “each Tianxuan Soul-Locking Array construction will count as a high-grade Class-A Merit Task.”

“When the array is finished, you’ll receive merit rewards corresponding to your contributions—distributed immediately.”

Before his words had even faded, a murmur of astonishment rippled through the cultivators present.

It was clear none of them had expected such news.

A Class-A Merit Task—under normal circumstances, such missions were perilous beyond measure, nearly impossible for ordinary cultivators to complete.

But now… all they had to do was assist in building an array?

    Their excitement was palpable.

Ji Hongdao smiled faintly, letting the fervor swell before speaking again.

“Tell me, do you wish for better techniques? For higher access within the Alliance?”

“This is your chance—a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

“Miss it, and you’ll spend years trying to earn a fraction of the same reward.”

    “So, do your best.”

Amidst the rising zeal, Li Fan’s gaze drifted to the glowing leaderboard above.

The rankings were still rapidly shifting—perhaps because the competition had only just begun. It was a clear sign of the intensity of the contest.

There were seven hundred eighty-three names in total—all familiar. Each belonged to a cultivator who had once trained in the Huan Yu Academy alongside him.

At the very bottom sat Li Fan and Xue Mu, both with zero points—joined only by a Golden Core cultivator named Guo Ye Zhong, who, for some reason, had yet to begin his work.

“All right, that’s enough enthusiasm for now,” Ji Hongdao said after a while, satisfied that morale had peaked. “Save your strength for tomorrow.”

He gestured, and a ripple of dark light shimmered through the air.

“Once you disembark, carry this—always.” He raised his hand, revealing hundreds of charms etched with black lightning-like runes. “Even within the Eternal Rampart, you must keep it on your person. Do not forget.”

“From tomorrow onward, stationed cultivators of the Rampart will accompany you, to guard against the Abyssal Demon Chants.”

“The rest of the instructions, Huangfu and Shangguan will brief you on.”

With that, he waved his sleeve. The charms scattered like a flock of ravens, each one descending before a cultivator.

Li Fan touched the talisman before him. The Black Death Seal instantly melted into a fine black line, coiling around his left wrist and vanishing beneath the skin.

There was no time to study it further—Huangfu Song’s voice urged them forward, and soon they left the Du Chen Zhou, taking up temporary residence within the Eternal Immortal Rampart.

The fortress truly lived up to its reputation as the front line guarding the Chizha Abyss. It was nearly self-sufficient—everything one might find in a normal city-state existed here.

Aside from the lack of teleportation arrays, even a Tianxuan Mirror was available within its walls.

However, Li Fan and his group were quartered at the very edge of the fortress—judging by what they’d seen earlier, likely no more than a fraction of one of the massive stone fingers.

Further inside, guards in azure robes stood watch—entry beyond that point was strictly forbidden.

    ---

While the cultivators explored their new surroundings within the Rampart, aboard the Du Chen Zhou, Ji Hongdao remained at the bow, gazing into the immense stone fortress that had once been a hand.

Behind him, a shadow twisted and took shape—a figure like a ghost half-anchored in reality.

“Still using greed to move people? Don’t you ever tire of such cheap tricks?” The voice dripped with disdain.

Ji Hongdao didn’t even turn. “Old tricks,” he replied mildly, “but effective.”

    “Wouldn’t you agree?”

“What cultivator, faced with boundless profit, can truly claim indifference?”

He smiled faintly. “Even someone as ‘lofty’ as you, Shaojun, wouldn’t have guarded the Chizha Abyss for decades without reward, would you?”

Shaojun let out a cold snort but offered no rebuttal.

After a moment, he said, “If I gain from the Abyss, it’s by my own skill. You think anyone else could survive here, much less benefit?”

“Guarding this cursed place is merit enough—but tell me, why build the Tianxuan Soul-Locking Array here as well?”

“You and I both know what that abomination truly is.”

    “We cultivators—”

He was cut off as Ji Hongdao turned sharply, his expression colder than ever before.

“The Tianxuan Soul-Lock,” he said slowly, each word like a falling stone, “is the will of the Great Current.”

“Whoever dares oppose it walks only one path—death.”

    He met Shaojun’s gaze unflinchingly.

“My advice, Shaojun—do not test the will of the Law Bearers.”

Shaojun’s face darkened, but he said nothing.

Ji Hongdao sighed softly, his tone easing.

“The situation grows dire. Heaven and Earth themselves have loosened the restrictions on cultivation—as though they’ve given up entirely, dragging us toward destruction with them.”

“The Council of Five Elders has sought endlessly for the Heavenly Venerable of the Transmission of Law, yet no trace has been found. They’re restless—dangerously so.”

“The Law Bearers have already detected signs that the laws of Heaven and Earth are reversing.”

    “You know what that means.”

“In times like this, only the Tianxuan Soul-Lock—using the very life force of half the Xuanhuang Realm as its foundation—can stabilize the world long enough for us to seek a way out.”

Shaojun’s expression grew grim. “To treat all living beings as mere pawns… and what makes you think you are not one yourself?”

Ji Hongdao smiled faintly, his eyes calm and detached.

“We stand above the masses. That is the difference.”

“Perhaps,” Shaojun murmured coldly. “We shall see.”

With a ripple, his form flickered and vanished into the air.
