Chapter 4: Escape

Su Hao had experienced so many different ways of dying that he had lost the intense fear of death, which allowed him to remain relatively calm in this life-threatening situation.

The threat of death was right before him, and Su Hao knew there was little chance of escaping this time, but he was not about to surrender without a fight.

The assailant's eyes were bloodshot, his mind lost to madness. His movements were erratic, driven by fury rather than skill, as he swung a rusted machete in wide, uncontrolled arcs. The sharp, metallic sound of the blade cutting through the air was terrifying, yet the chaotic frenzy of his slashes kept him from hitting anything.

Su Hao quickly assessed the trajectory of the blade, ducked his head, and rolled sideways with all his strength, narrowly avoiding the hasty slash. He scrambled to his feet and dashed toward the children’s playground in the classroom, hoping the obstacles there might provide him some cover.

The assailant missed his first strike and didn’t think much of it. Just as he was about to make another slash, he saw the little kid rolling and crawling away.

'Run? You think you can run away from me?' the man muttered darkly, his breath coming in labored gasps. His fingers tightened around the machete’s handle, knuckles white with rage. A cruel gleam flashed in the assailant’s eyes as he sluggish chased after Su Hao.

Su Hao glanced back and saw the assailant just three steps behind, raising his machete to strike again. Su Hao predicted the blade’s trajectory—it was aimed at his right shoulder.

Without hesitation, Su Hao threw himself on the ground, and the machete whizzed past his head, narrowly missing his skull.

Just as Su Hao was about to get up and continue running, he felt a strong hand grip his ankle and drag him backward. No matter how much he struggled, he couldn’t stop his body from being pulled back.

'It’s over!' Su Hao lamented inwardly. Was there really no way for him to survive past the age of 5.

The assailant smiled triumphantly, knowing this pesky child was not going to escape this time. He raised his machete a third time, preparing to slash down on Su Hao's back.

“Clang~!”

The machete struck the hard plastic on Su Hao’s back and bounced off with a crisp sound.

The assailant froze, then slashed again, only for the machete to bounce off once more. Frustrated, he yanked Su Hao’s shirt open, and the two plastic boards dropped to the floor. His eyes gleamed with rage as he raised the machete again, determined to see what this annoying child would use to block or dodge his next attack!

At the moment the plastic boards fell away, Su Hao quickly reached into his pocket and grabbed a handful of loose sand, throwing it directly into the assailant’s face.

Instinctively, the assailant let go of Su Hao’s ankle and raised his hand to shield his eyes. Though he managed to block most of the sand, some still got into his eyes due to the close distance and Su Hao’s swift, unexpected move.

“Argh!” The assailant screamed, frantically blinking and rubbing his eyes.

Su Hao quickly scrambled to his feet and delivered a solid Kick to the assailant’s groin.

“Ugh—!” The assailant’s machete slipped from his hand as he clutched his privates in pain, slowly sinking to the ground.

Su Hao immediately bolted for the door.

The sand in the assailant’s eyes would soon be cleared by his tears, and he would recover from the groin hit in a few seconds. If Su Hao didn’t escape now, he wouldn’t stand a chance when the assailant picked up the machete again.

Su Hao dashed out the door and saw a group of men in their thirties and forties, wielding various sticks and improvised weapons, rushing toward the classroom.

“Phew~, reinforcements are finally here!” Su Hao sighed in relief and kept running until one of the men scooped him up.

The man carried Su Hao into the crowd, placing him among a group of protected children before turning back and charging back into the classroom.

The little kids were crying and sniffling, but when they saw Su Hao, they paused for a moment. Su Hao’s gaze swept over them, and all the kids immediately stopped crying, turning their heads away and silently sobbing.

Before long, a struggle broke out in the classroom. The assailant, still half-blinded, was swiftly subdued by the group of men. In the distance, the blaring of sirens grew louder as ambulances and police cars raced toward the scene.

Su Hao waved his tiny hand in excitement; he was safe, at least for now.

He was still panting heavily, his little heart pounding from the excessive tension, his face flushed red.

Had he made even the slightest mistake due to panic, he would be lying in the classroom now, waiting for an ambulance. He knew his small body wouldn’t have been able to withstand a blow from that gleaming machete.

The most dangerous moment was when the assailant grabbed his ankle—Su Hao had been like a fish on the chopping board, completely at the assailant’s mercy. If the machete had struck his head instead of his back, he would have been dead for sure.

As Su Hao gradually calmed down, he noticed how much he had changed. In the past, he would never have been able to remain calm and think clearly while facing such a vicious attacker.

Having experienced death and rebirth countless times, Su Hao’s mental fortitude had grown exceptionally strong. The more critical the moment, the more composed his thinking became.

But this wasn’t entirely a good thing; he had lost his fear of death. This, upon closer reflection, was terrifying—it was equivalent to losing the will to fight for survival in desperate situations.

Soon, the incident was resolved. The scene was cordoned off, the police took the assailant away, and the injured children and security guards were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The kindergarten teachers notified parents to come and pick up their kids, and a swarm of reporters arrived to cover the event.

When Huang Shujun arrived at the kindergarten, her face full of panic, and saw Su Hao unharmed, her tears burst forth like a flood. She hugged Su Hao tightly and refused to let go.

Su Hao was grateful he was still alive. If he had really died today, he couldn’t imagine the pain and guilt his mother would have endured.

….

Before long, a video of the incident started circulating.

The footage showed a small boy repeatedly dodging the assailant’s attacks and ultimately fighting back, injuring the assailant and escaping successfully.

The little boy in the video was none other than Su Hao.

The comment section exploded immediately.

[ <Holy shit, unbelievable. This is the legendary David vs Goliath>

<Who is this kid? So freaking cool!>

<Our club leader just shouted: Awesome! We’re from the Fighting Club.>

<I admit, this kid could probably beat me up several times…☠️>

<Totally impressed!>

<Bet that criminal got psyched out by this kid’s moves.>

<I might not even be able to beat this kid. Am I just too weak? :'(>

<Be more confident—remove the ‘might.’ xD>

<This kid’s gonna be something incredible in the future!?>

<I had thought the performances in the movies were too ridiculous. After seeing this video, I found out that reality is even more ridiculous.>

<You’ve got to know that not all people are the same.>

<Who is this little boy? I want to marry him; I’m willing to wait ten years.❤️>

<The commenter above, you’re worse than a beast. Even in ten years, he’ll only be fifteen or sixteen! How could you even think that??>

<Did anyone notice how calm this kid was the whole time? First thing he did was grab two boards for protection, then scooped up some sand to keep in his pocket. All I can say is, he’s amazing. Definitely a genius.> ]

Su Hao became famous, overnight.

Su Hao had experienced death in so many forms that he'd lost much of his fear of it. This allowed him to maintain a deceptive calm.

The threat of death loomed before him. He estimated his chances of survival at only 10-20%, but he wasn't about to give up without a fight.

The murderer's eyes were bloodshot, his thoughts clearly chaotic. The machete swung wildly, missing its mark repeatedly.

Su Hao tracked the blade's movements, ducking and rolling to evade the clumsy attacks. He scrambled to his feet and sprinted toward the playground, hoping to find cover amidst the colorful structures.

The murderer's blade sliced through air. Annoyed, he watched the 'cool kid' rolling, scrambling, and running for his life.

Run, eh? You think you can escape? A cruel glint flickered in the murderer's eyes as he gave chase.

Glimpsing the approaching figure, Su Hao knew the murderer was closing in, raising the machete for another strike. He braced himself, anticipating the blow. My right shoulder.

Su Hao dropped to the ground, the machete whistling past his head, narrowly missing his skull.

As he tried to rise, a powerful hand clamped around his ankle, yanking him back. No matter how hard he struggled, he couldn't break free.

It's over, Su Hao thought with a sigh. It seems I'm destined not to survive past five.

The murderer grinned triumphantly. This annoying brat wouldn't escape this time. He raised the machete for a third, decisive strike, aiming for Su Hao's back.

    *Thwack!*

The machete slammed against the plastic board protecting Su Hao's back, the impact producing a sharp, echoing sound as the blade bounced harmlessly off the makeshift armor.

The murderer stared in disbelief. He swung again, but the blade still bounced off. Frustrated, he tore at Su Hao's clothes, ripping out the plastic boards from the front and back. A murderous rage filled his eyes. Impatiently, he raised the machete for one final, desperate blow, eager to see how this brat would avoid it!

As the plastic boards fell away, Su Hao swiftly grabbed a handful of loose sand from his pocket and hurled it into the murderer's eyes.

The murderer instinctively released Su Hao's ankle, raising his hands to shield his face. Although his hands blocked most of the sand, the close range and suddenness of the attack meant that some of it still got into his eyes.

'Aaaagh!' The murderer screamed, frantically blinking and rubbing at his burning eyes.

Su Hao seized the opportunity, scrambling to his feet and delivering a swift, powerful kick to the man's groin.

'Owww—' The murderer's machete clattered to the ground as he doubled over in agony, clutching at his injured parts.

Su Hao didn't hesitate. He sprinted toward the door.

The sand would soon be washed away by his tears, and the pain would only last a few more seconds. After that, he wouldn't stand a chance. If the murderer managed to grab the machete again, Su Hao would be defenseless.

He burst through the doorway and found a group of men, thirty or forty years old, armed with batons, charging toward the classroom.

'Phew, the reinforcements finally arrived!' Su Hao sighed in relief, running until a man swept him up into his arms.

The man carried him to safety, placing him among the other terrified children, before turning and rushing back into the classroom.

The group of children were crying hysterically. Su Hao's arrival momentarily stunned them into silence. Then, as his gaze swept over them, they lowered their heads and began to sob quietly.

Soon, the men managed to subdue the murderer. Sirens wailed in the distance, growing louder as ambulances and police cars raced toward the scene.

Su Hao waved his small hands with relief. He was safe, for now.

Only now, with the immediate danger passed, did the adrenaline begin to wear off. His heart pounded in his chest, his breathing came in ragged gasps, and his face burned red.

Panic led to mistakes. Now, he could finally relax and wait for rescue. He still couldn't believe that his small body had managed to survive against that gleaming blade.

The most terrifying moment had been when the murderer grabbed his ankle. He had been as helpless as a fish on a cutting board. If the murderer hadn't wasted time attacking his back and had aimed for his head, he would surely be dead.

As Su Hao calmed down, he began to recognize a change within himself. In the past, he would never have been able to stay rational and think so clearly when faced with such a ruthless killer.

After so many deaths, reincarnations, and near-death experiences, his mental fortitude had grown exponentially. The more critical the moment, the more calmly he could analyze the situation.

But this wasn't entirely a good thing. He realized he had lost his fear of death. This was a terrifying thought. It was equivalent to losing the will to survive in desperate situations.

Soon, the situation was under control. The area was cordoned off, the police took the murderer into custody, and the injured children and security guards were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The kindergarten teacher contacted the parents to pick up their children. Reporters swarmed the scene, eager to report the story.

When Huang Shujun arrived, her face etched with worry, she burst into tears upon seeing Su Hao unharmed. She clutched him tightly, refusing to let go.

Su Hao was genuinely grateful to be alive. If he had died again today, he couldn't imagine the pain and guilt his mother would have to endure.

    ...

Soon, a video began to circulate online.

The video showed a tiny boy dodging a murderer's machete, counter-attacking, and escaping with his life.

The boy in the video was Su Hao.

The comment section exploded with reactions.

'Holy crap, unbelievable! This is like the legendary David versus Goliath!'

'Who is this kid? He's so handsome! What a hero!'

'My boss just yelled, "Awesome!" I'm from a fighting club.'

'I admit, I'd probably lose to this kid in a fight...'

    'No probably about it!'

'The criminal was probably caught because of this kid's efforts.'

'I might not be able to beat this kid. Am I too weak?'

'Be more confident. There's no "might" about it.'

    'This is unprecedented!'

'I used to think the action scenes in movies were ridiculous, but this proves that reality is even more unbelievable!'

'Shows you that not everyone is created equal.'

'Who is this kid? I want to marry him! I'm willing to wait ten years.'

'To the person above, he'll only be 15 or 16 in ten years! That's not gonna work.'

'Has anyone noticed how calm this child was throughout the entire ordeal? He grabbed those plastic boards to protect himself as soon as he realized there was a threat. He even had sand in his pockets. He's incredible. An absolute genius.'

Su Hao became an overnight sensation, known as the 'Kindergarten Genius'.
